Placenta previa - 36 weeks and in hospital!

Hi, it's been suggested that I start a new thread on this!!! Am now 36 weeks preg and been in hospital since 34+4 after first bleed with pp. They aren't apparently massive bleeds by previa standards but still scary!!! First one came in from home via ambulance in middle of night, second was after an ultrasound whilst in hospital and third was the other night again whilst in hospital. Be interested to hear of other peoples experiences on this. It's so frightening isn't it! It's when it first starts to bleed that it's frightening, nit knowing how much. Staff in hospital are being really good, especially when I bleed.

Been told that they want mr to stay in hospital till c section at 39 weeks, however this depends on how much I bleed and how I and baby am. Reason for 39 is the clinical NICE guidelines for paediatrics.

Am so up and down emotionally, one min getting head round it, next crying loads. Have a little girl 4.5 years. Her delivery was fine. Had SPd then and still do have now but having the Bowen technique for that this time, privately with a midwife, and it seems to be helping the Spd a little.,

Any tips on how you coped with your pps. Find it so difficult at times. Thanks for all support xx

Hi girls - lovely our thread to support each other is growing!!!! I know it helps me to know people who have same thing. I will update thread when I have baby too. At least as time goes on the our babies are getting stronger. Also if you do go in for bleeds feel like getting steroids for the lungs makes you feel something positive is bring done.

Doing ok. Obviously on countdown now. Lots of tightenings still but dare I say no more fresh bleeds, just the usual. Baby is sooo active today. Like coppernoodle said, we're desperate to get the babies out but will miss that moving feeling inside. The hard thing with pp and spd is it does take the excitement away and don't know if you're like this but kind of forget how special it is to have a baby. Think being in hospital can also do that as everything seems so clinical! Feeling better now I have a date for delivery but it is still the not knowing if I will have to deliver before then. Pant and pad checking is the norm! Then of course miss home too, just had my little girl on upset and trying to talk hubbie through downloading a file on laptop - feel so helpless sometimes.
Coppernoodle - you must be 32 now, when's scan again? You were so brave doing Disney!!!!! You're inky two weeks behind when I came into hosp! Si hope they give you a date. My spd isn't as good this week without treatment. How's yours?
Deo357 - know how you feel as seemed so long at your stage but keep going and you will get there. I tried to schedule little treats in like a manicure or pedicure, something each week to look fwd to. Have they said it coul move? Most of then do by 33 weeks if so. Depends how low at 20 week scan. Hope things improve for you.
Captain barnacle - so pleased you haven't bled yet, I do know two people who have had pps and not, really hope all ok. Every day is further on though. I had first one at 34.4 and steroids then too.
We've got a little gang going now!
Trying to be upbeat but think we all know it's scary and I still have my crying times. It's good to keep each other updated on here xxx

captainbarnacle - its a worry isnt it thinking about others looking after our babes. fingers crossed it wont come to that . when are they delivering you?

captainbarnacle · 16/06/2011 22:05

Can't imagine how you are all coping with PP and SPD. Hats off!

Only found out yesterday so everything a bit of a blur - they were talking about ELCS at 37/38w. Baby is 32w today and EFW is 5lb4oz already! Previous babies were both 8lb something. I really should get a hospital bag sorted!!

deo357 · 16/06/2011 22:08

Cmm - you sound more up beat today ! no my pp def wont move as i have acreeta to so she said it def wont move & i will be having a hysterectomy @ the birth, so mega scary stuff. but , trying not to think about it really. they are delivering me at 36 if no major probs til then, but i was kinda hoping for 34 because im more worried about a hemorage or something & i have been told an emergency CS for me is the owrst cause they cant get to babe quick enough with prev scar tissue & acreeta. do u know what u are having?
coppernoodle - do u know what u r having, how many do u have now? when will they tell u deliv date ??
xxx

deo357 · 16/06/2011 22:10

coppernoodle - oh and my husband would lov one of your willy socks !!

captainbarnacle · 16/06/2011 23:00

Deo - how do you know you have accreta? Have they given you no other option but hysterectomy? Why is emergency CS so bad for the baby?

SOrry about all the questions - it's all new to me :)

cmm · 16/06/2011 23:26

Hi all, yes do feel on the whole more upbeat!... Although am hoping not lulled into false sense of not bleeding till section next week. They keep saying day by day.
Deo / didn't realise about your accreta, they mentioned to me about a hysterectomy if it's bedded in too much. Trying not to think. It's my second baby (have a little girl, 5 in aug). Don't know if this boy or girl!!

cmm · 17/06/2011 01:05

Coppernoodle / think I missed your message about knitting!!!! Someone suggested that to me the other day! Also you said you have caravan, we have motorhome but was getting worried about using just before I came in with first bleed three weeks ago. Think we've got most things now for baby but just remembered order a breast pump and pillow that was to be delivered at home today! Hope it's come. So tired I fall asleep whilst updating this! Xx

Deo - just trigger I was talking to you on other thread! Honestly think I am sometimes losing the plot!!! Sorry I ended up asking same questions!!

Feel quite tired and little fed up today but didn't sleep that well. Getting more used to braxton tightenings but then when I start with period type dragging pain I worry about bleeding!!! Although I know that the bleeds I have had are painless and come quickly without warning! It just feels unnatural to have these feelings of period ache! Any of you get it? If it wasn't for the flipping pp wouldn't stress!!!! Also think I said, the spd isn't as good and I think because missed a treatment with the guy being on hol. On a positive guess won't need that many more treatments because baby is due by section Wednesday! - 5 sleeps as we're saying to our little girl!!!!!

How are you all this morning? Xxx Smile

Hahahaha!! I should sell my willy socks, they'll be a big hit!! The one I knitted has a bell and two eyes!!! :)
Deo, I remember you to now! And a hysterectomy! Poor you! Is that definitely going to happen? Do you have any other children? I have two girlies aged 4 & 5, this ones a boy :)
I'm 32 weeks now cmm, I have my scan on Tuesday, the day. Before your c section. Even if baby came today, your only 5 days early to your date! I get those aches too, but I just thought it was spd. It's an ache up my flu, I get a lot of Braxton hicks now but still had no bleed apart from tat little tiny bit a couple of weekends ago. Looking forward to my scan, they can tell me whether my cyst is still there too! And all of this worrying over PP and Spd, I've completely forgotten about that I have group b strep too!
No one ever mentioned to me that if it's embedded too much you have hysterectomy!! Oh shit!! Not that I want any more, 3 is plenty! But that's a mind game in itself!
Captainbarnacle hang on in there and defo treat yourself now! Get baby bag ready and we'll have a race! See who has first!! :) I'm booking in for a massage next week, make the most of this time!
Cmm, I'm exited for you to see what you have now! They always say it's the boys that cause all the trouble which is true in my case!

Good to have you all here, I love this thread and the people on it, your all very supportive and genuine lovely people. Hope everything works out for all of us! X x x

Coppernoddle · 17/06/2011 10:13

My goodness deo, I just googled acreeta! That's horrific! And you found out at your 32 weeks scan then! Mmmmmm, roll on Tuesday Shock

captainbarnacle · 17/06/2011 10:43

Yes - race yer, coppernoddle!

Saw consultant after my 32w scan on thursday and the only thing he was going on about was placenta acreta possibility, but that there weren't many reliable tests to check I definitely had it. That's been a big concern in past 48hrs for me, plus the idea that I can bleed at any time. I am on my own all the time with two small boys and not looking forward to panicking!

cmm · 17/06/2011 11:24

Hi all, just had a nap for an hour or so as midwives came in after dr visit and was a bit teary so they said try to get done rest.... Just checked the thread again now and lots of lovely supportive messages for us all!!!! The willy socks make me chuckle!!

The actreta thing... I like you coppernoodle didn't realise was possibility. They have said to me that fairly unusual but will have to consent to hysterectomy as won't know till section if it will come away without bleeding too much.

Didn't realise you had step aswell, you poor thing. You really are going through it. Def good to get massage booked in. I was doing things like that before being admitted to hosp, keeps you feeling nice and things to look fwd to. Now am in hosp brought in my lotions and potions and part of every day have a good session with cleansing etc!!!! Tip... Get lots of samples from the counters in shops and then use them as treats and testing things!!! I have a bag of clarins small size samples, makes me try different products but also makes my other clarins products last longer!!!

You and deo sound in a race!!! 32 weeks is getting good. I was 34 when admitted and had the steroids too. Had scan at 33 then 35.

I think boy for me but because of the hassle!!!! Even though had spd last time, not as bad as this time but the Bowen technique has helped, just had message from guy to say he can come tomorrow and do instead of monday so that's good.

Will check thread later girls. Smile

Coppernoddle · 17/06/2011 11:26

You need to make neighbours aware then and as many people as you can! You need a emergency plan in case the worst happens, as if you end up calling an ambulance, they don't want to be waiting around to take you to the hospital while you sort out childcare and you defo don't want them in the ambulance with you! Gosh, I don't let my hubby work away now as most of the time, they said, it usually happens in the morning when you get out of bed, but can happen any time too! Small bleed can quickly turn into a big bleed so don't try and drive yourself etc! I'm sure you know all this but be positive, you. May not need hysterectomy! I guess you won't know till your section. Have you not got anyone there with you for your section? What happens to your boys while your in hospital? Do you not have any family?
I know you may not want to, but if you don't have any help, it might be worth notifying social services as they can offer you a temporary foster care home that you can meet before hand. It's worth looking into! They are very nice people!
First things first! Get your bags packed! That'll make you feel more comfortable when everything ready to go! X x

I second that with the iPhones! And ipads! Bloody predictive text! Did you read my thread on tashy cmm? Was being all supportive and comforting and then realised I called her bloody tasty instead of tashy! What a doof!!

captainbarnacle · 17/06/2011 11:32

Cmm - all those potions sound lovely! DC1 is off school today with suspected tonsilitis so took advantage and have had a looonng bath whilst he and his brother play. I texted all my friends and family after seeing the consultant and have had lots of offer of help - today I have to get together a big list of numbers and instructions on how to look after the boys and stick it up in the hallway with a hospital bag, so whoever answers their phone when something bad happens has access to other people who can look after them. My mum is visiting for the next 10days (staying near my sister) so am ok until then. OH wasn't planning on coming home until august - but I think we'll have to review that!! I live on the isle of wight.

Coppernoddle · 17/06/2011 11:38

Yes cmm, it's all heating up now on here!! The race is on!!!
The sample idea sounds good!! Will have to raid boots! Glad your getting treatment tomorrow rather than leaving it till Monday! Comfy comfy! And the list doesn't stop at group b strep neither!!! When I sit and think about it, I laugh as there's soooooo much that I have it's actually unbelievable! They think I'm addison's disease aswell so ope going to be interesting! I have low cortisol, which causes hypremises throughout pregnancy, I'm sick of being sick! I have a constant post nasal drip which is too much mucus dripping down the back of my neck constantly, get worse when I eat, makes everything taste horrible, go through 5 toilet rolls a day!! I suffered a prolapse at the begin gin so may have to stick my won to my spine, I have a fist sized cyst on my ovary, sometimes I'm that sick that I burst blood vessels in my throat that it nearly closes over! The lust goes on!!!
I can't wait till this pregnancy is over! I will miss little one inside me, but not as much as I want him out! Can't wait to meet the little bugger!! Going to have strong words with this one :) !!!!

Coppernoddle · 17/06/2011 11:39

Bloody iPad!!!

Emoo · 17/06/2011 12:44

May I join your merry band???

I'm 24 weeks, had PP identified at 20 weeks, it's posterior and overlapping the hole by a few cm I think (was hard to tell from the picture and they didn't write it down). At first I Googled until I terrified myself, now I am kind of resigned to a likely CS and crappy 3rd trimester in and out of hospital, and so haven't booked a summer holiday Sad. I know there's still a chance it may move, but from what I've read it seems to be the anterior low placentas that are most likely to get out of the way, not the posterior overlapping ones.

Can I ask when/how your PPs were identified, and what follow-up scans you've had, and whether they moved at all? And I guess it would be useful to know how low they were at 20 weeks and whether they were anterior or posterior?

Sorry for all the qs!

captainbarnacle · 17/06/2011 13:06

Hi Emoo.

At my 20w scan I was low anterior and only just touching. So I thought I'd be one of the 80% who has it moving out of the way... instead it seems to have grown further backwards and is now major PP. Which is why I think they are worrying about placenta accreta because it may have got stuck moving up by my scar or something...

I had nothing since 20w - no bleeding, no bad symptoms, no scans until 32w. Just an easy pregnancy so far, apart from tiredness.

Coppernoddle · 17/06/2011 14:15

I must learn to read over my posts before posting them!! I do keep everyone guessing!!!

I found out at my 20 week scan, and complete coverage but going on the posteria side. I have my 32 scan on Tuesday, will be 1 day off 33 weeks. So am looking forward to that one! Hmm
I had a little bleeding at the beginning and a little wipe of blood a couple of weekends ago and that's it! I kind of am under the impression of no bleeding, must of moved impression! I hoping it has, could really do with a shag!!! Grin poor husbands not going to know what's hit him if it has actually moved out of the way!! All his dreams will come true! (for about 10 minutes anyway Shock

It's nice to have everyone here with us going through the same thing! X x

captainbarnacle · 17/06/2011 14:32

Well I had no bleeding, and it's go 10 times worse!! (ahem sorry ahem)

As it was barely touching at 20w noone said anything to me about sex - in fact, no one said anything about sex to me on thursday either! Maybe the idea of me having sex is just taken as a no no to them! I have tried when OH is back but I got worried (12w bleed was after sex) and had to stop :(

Looking forward to your news on tues - don't leave us!!!
