febes they tell me they are non identical as they both have their own placenta, but there is a small chance that they could be identical. If the egg splits within 3 days, each part can implant and get its own placenta, but the liklihood is that they are non identical. I will have monthly scans after 20 weeks.
Re the CVS, its a test both DH and I want. I feel we have to know if there are problems with either or , god forbid, both. As we already have 2 children, we are not at all sure that it would be something we could deal with if there were problems. So we want to know.
The problem is that 4 weeks ago, the PCT changed their policy on maternal choice invasive testing. As our PCT now offer the combined test (NT scan and bloods) they have decided that they will no longer offer maternal choice invasive tests as their view is that the combined test is good enough. Apparantly the NT scan alone is now considered not good enough as too many false positives and negatives are produced.
Problem is that combined tests cannot be done for twin pregnancies as the blood test is unreliable. SO that leaves us in a bit of a grey area. The NT is now considered not good enough on its own, but the PCT will not offer me CVS.
We don't want the NT alone as with R we had terrible odds and those days waiting for the CVS results were nothing short of torture.
The fabulous consultant we saw has a Scan meeting today and is going to put our case to see if we can get a CVS. I have to go back next Weds and if we can have it we will do it then. If not, we may have to go private.
We have weighed up all the risks and this is what we want. Not everyone would do this, I know but with 2 children already to consider, we have to know what we are facing.
Serious part over. I need to try and not think about it till Wednesday!
tummum all the best today. And have a fabulous camping weekend.
Better go and get dressed, I suppose.....
