Soz to hear princess and omy have had poorly little ones hope all ok now. Glad you made it up with dh princess, cut yourself some slack, this mummy business aint easy you know!

teething - was reading a 1914 guide for mothers yesterday (i'm amazed anyone survived!) apparently it's the hardest 'illness' a baby will have and is best treated with cod liver oil and lancing the gums! Not nice, thank god we've moved on from such quackery!!

Waking up -When ds started waking so much i started weaning, can't remember baby ages but are you guys near that stage?

Wot's everyone putiing LOs in at night? it's so warm, i don't know what to do for the best, toby's grobag is just too hot and i'm worried he'll be too cold in just a babygro or pyjamas.

and..anyone else got a baby with a really flat head? it really notices now that he's getting bigger and he hates lying on his front. presumably he'll grow out of it, any thoughts?

Anyway, enjoy the last sunny day, it's supposed to rain tomorrow!

princessllama · 14/05/2008 15:00

we're doing much better here and have persuaded ds to sleep more and feed better but less often-phew, still up at least 2 x at night but that's fine compared to b4. gigermumi-flat head will improve a bit with lots of tummy time. make sure he can turn head both ways fully as usually it gets exacerbated by lying on flat bit. it will be less noticable with lots hair. osteopathy can help a bit and if massively flat you can get crazy helmets to help, but doesn't sound like it's that bad. on nighttime clothes- i went on grobag website-has a table with temp and tog rating. lo's room was 24 degrees so said wear 1.0 grobag and short sleeved vest.
lucy am impressed with wii.
alkar sounds like u have v efficient builders, feel for you with all the dust etc
rozzy i feel claustrophobic with 2 . as someone else said u r amazing to cope with 3.hope u get some time off-even if it's just an hour.
beany hope u r doing better

omy · 14/05/2008 17:14

Mitford - thanks for website tip re wipes - very interesting.
Wii fit sounds fun!

hi ladies,

get ready iam going to have a moan!!!!!

DH has been made redundant as of yesterday-

Was totally unexpected- his employers have been in fincancial trouble for a while and the firm has been closed down by the courts- as of yesterday- His boss been saying for the last week things are tough but all will be ok so eveyone listened and now are all out of jobs-

we are out of savings and have no idea how we will manage to pay all the bills on the first of the month!!! We have sent all redundacy claim forms off to the government as they will be paying it out and it will take about 6 weeks!!!!!!! really could do without this at the mo!!! he will not be out of work for long but still very stressfull,

Sorry for the moan hope everyone is ok!!!!

Going job hunting for him now

xxxx

cosima · 14/05/2008 20:15

get on the phone to the tax credit people and see if you are eligible for nay cash too.

beansprout · 14/05/2008 20:37

Sarah - I'm so sorry to hear about dh and what horrible timing too. You must be really stressed. Is he likely to be able to find work soon? Hope you are ok.

Shite day here too. Back at the docs with ds1 today. He has enlarged lymph glands (over 1cm), lot of night sweats blah. There could be a straightforward explanation but in the mean time we have an urgent referral and have to go to the hospital tomorrow as cancer is on the list of possibilities. My blood is running cold and I have been like a maniac today in a bid to Try Not To Think About It. I'm sure he is ok but of course, I don't know. Rats.

Ds2 in the meantime, is dribbling for England. Mum said his gums look white too.... they are on their way!!

No weaning here yet - he is 16 weeks today, so another 10 to go....!

rozzyraspberry · 14/05/2008 20:56

Oh beany what a worry - like you say I'm sure he's fine and at least you've noticed the swelling and he's getting looked at. Let us know how you get on tomorrow - I'll be thinking of you and wishing you all the best xxx

ds3 is only 13 weeks so we have a bit longer until weaning - I'm hoping that a huge milk intake in the weeks to come will bring more weight loss

Sarah - sorry to hear about your dh - I'm a bit of a worrier about money at the moment with the way prices and mortgage rates are going at the moment so I really feel for you. Hopefully you'll get your money from the government soon and dh will find something soon too.

Hearing about other peoples worries definitely puts my pathetic complaints into perspective.

tyaca · 14/05/2008 21:48

oh sarah - that's rubbish. especially as it sounds so sudden. i must give you credit for sounding so upbeat, you sound like the kind of person who gets on with everything rather than moans (EXACT opposite of me lol). you said he wont be unemployed for long?? i hope not, touchwood it'll only be this month that's tough. oh - and the other night DH put dd to bed with a sleepsuit over her vest, it was 25 degrees in her bed and she was fully swaddled. i spent hours debating whether or not to wake her and take off a layer. decided against it but she's in just a vest under the swaddle at the moment - her cot is by an internal wall and temp's not dropping below 22 even at coldest point.

bean - impressed you so on the ball - second what rozza said about the noticing and getting things sorted. gl for tomo and the referral. it'll be fine, sounds like the HCPs you seeing are v good at getting things moving. Hopefully your blood can get back to the right temperature again quickly. Love your milk countdown ... seems like you've been counting down for aaaages [impressed emtocion]!

lucy, v jealous of Wii. Am slogging it out at gym still. feels ickily narcissistic - but got to do it. alkar, i may try my local buggyfit if you reckon its hard work. think my slow ambles around the park not good enough.

doesnt it feel quiet without egg??

we had an offer on our flat today. cheeky cheap, and said no to that and the next offer (20% below asking price). but still good news as it was first person to see flat. seems like madness to be selling right now, but desperate not to rent flat as i would be an awful landlord.

CountTo10 · 14/05/2008 22:27

God it feels like ages since I've been on here!! Bit of a theme then with sick babies and shiteness all ways round then!! We've had such a week of it - ds2 has randomly got a cold from somewhere and has had high temp and streaming nose which as you can imagine is just great in a heatwave!!! Cue calpol and sips of water, night waking and general grumpiness. Mix this with ds1 just being a nightmare behaviour wise I was ready to comit myself by the time dp came home tonight!!

Sarah - sorry to hear about your dh, last thing you need. Defo get on to tax credits as they should be able to up it for at least a couple of mths and it could be immediate.

I'm a southern belle - in between m40 and m4 so fairly central. Would love to meet up if poss. Any thoughts on where we could?

Took ds2 to the health visitor for a weigh in last week and she's voiced concerns that he's not putting much weight on now and dipping off a bit. I was really surprised as I'd expected to him to have put on at least a lb (over a fortnight) but he'd barely put on 7oz. Thing is its not like he doesn't have regular feeds between formula and me so I don't really understand it. Plus he's jus dropped out his night feed so surely if it was a case of not enough milk he wouldn't have dropped it? Just not used to that as ds1 piled weight on constantly at the beginning. Taking him tomorrow so hopefully he'll have put a bit more on.

Hope everyone's ok - and umbrellas out tomorrow apparantly. I knew it wasn't going to last!!!

gingermumi · 15/05/2008 11:34

morning! thanks princess, am just goig to order new gro bag!

Sarah - thats awful, can you claim benefits until he finds something? (don't think tax credits will pay as yo have to be in work).

Bean - hope all ok, you must be v worried hun.

ds wailing, so have to go!

sarahmikeharryandrosie · 15/05/2008 11:35

Hi ladies,

Thanks Tyaca- your right - i do try to look on the bright side and make the best of a bad situation,

Also thanks to everyone else, i have called tax credits thay are sending me some forms,

DH has 2 interviews lined up and a temp job offer so hopefully all will be ok he is a mechanic on diggers, lorries, and consrtucion machinery so there is plenty of work around.

I start work on monday 3 hours each eve mon to fri, cleaning at our local hospital so thats a little cash too!!!

Sorry to be so self absorbed, how are you all-

Count sorry to hear lo is not gaining weight as the HV would like, but you are right if he did not have enough food he would still be waking at night for feeds.

DD was weighed on monday and is 13lb 1oz- at 14 weeks, so soing really well and right on average line so so concerns here.

will be back on later with any info for you all xxx

Egg · 15/05/2008 11:39

Shit beany I hope DS1 is ok and good luck at the hospital today. Please let us know how you get on, it must be terrifying for you. I wouldn't even know to check that kind of thing.

Sarah so sorry about your DH too. I don't know what I would do, I would panic so much. DH worked at Enron when they went bust and that was awful, but we didn't have any children OR a mortgage back then.

ALso had a bit of a crap time here, although nothing compared to some of you. DD has been really struggling feeding, spent three days solid crying. Seems a bit better now but still not taking enough milk, not even as much as she used to and she's never been great at big feeds. Even DS2, the golden boy, is not feeding properly now, it is taking over an hour often to feed them, and I am having to feed them separately a lot of the time because they are struggling so much with wind, they need to burp about 20 times during each feed but take forever and a lot of different burping positions to get anything out. DD had three foul green poos yesterday and instantly seemed happier but she has only had two small feeds today.

Oh, and I got on the scales for a midweek weigh in today and I was 8st 3!!!!!!! I think it might be because I had no time to eat yesterday in between feeding and burping and trying not to neglect poor DS1. It will return by Monday as I always eat more at the weekend.

omy · 15/05/2008 11:40

Bloody hell Beany! Cross fingers for you today at the hosp. xxx

Sarah - how shite - I am sure DH will find another job soon - just what you don't need.

Tyaca - 20% below asking price!! Cheeky bstd!!

Countto10 - miserable when they are ill - poor you.

Am already thinking about (dreading!) weaning - as I will be back at work by then so won't be able to have total control over her diet! I am going to put posters up in the kitchen about what she is and isn't allowed to eat - am terrified that DD2 will feed her the wrong things! (DH is a bit useless about that kind of thing too!).

Found a good website on weaning though..

Egg · 15/05/2008 11:43

Gosh I missed the last few posts with my slow typing. Sarah glad things are looking promising for work for your DH .

Ginger I know the others have also said, but I have got my 0.5tog grobags ready for the really hot (if we get it) weather. So far on the hot nights I have put them in the 1 tog grobags in short sleeved vests, and left the zip a bit undone at first while it is still 24+ degrees, then zipped them up as it cools down. Their room stays hot as water tank / airing cupboard is in there and lots of hot water pipes under the floor.

Count it sounds like your DS2 is doing fine if he is not wanting a night feed. My DD is gaining very slowly now but she still has 10pm feed and then wakes 4-5am, which shows she is not getting enough in the day (because she never blooming well feeds properly.. and I know she can do it as she has had 200ml on a few occasions but not recently).

Egg · 15/05/2008 11:44

BTW - I HATE WEANING...

sarahmikeharryandrosie · 15/05/2008 11:53

Hope all goes well for you DS at the hospital bean,

Egg sorry to hear DD is not feeding well, it must be a real struggle for you sometimes sounds tough with both of them at the mo!!!

Oh and you must eat!!

I cannot wait to start weaning, but i think i must be one of a kind -i loved it with DS- i am planning to start at about 16 weeks the same time as DS- (i know were supposed to wait but the HV has said to follow my instincts- etc) i will see how she goes if still sleeping ok will leave it a little longer

beansprout · 15/05/2008 12:07

Thanks for all your support and your confidence in my mummy skills but it wasn't me who noticed his glands. I'm not even sure how to find them . We went originally for suspected obstructive sleep apnea and it was the doc who picked up on the glands. This makes it all the more scary as it could have been missed. Ds1 has night sweats too which is a classic lymphoma symptom, although of course, it could be caused by all sorts of other things too.

Am not in a good way today, tbh, am trying not to worry but am failing. Have even resorted to cleaning to take my mind off things, so it must be baaad.

tyaca · 15/05/2008 12:08

countto10 - maybe we should all committ ourselves communally?? we could hole up in some institution where perhaps people would give us tea and biscuits while other people would soothe our ailing babies? sorry to hear you worried about the weight gain - 7oz is still a solid gain in a week tho', hopefully today's weigh will go well.

injections this afternoon - and a v big to do list that i dont think i have a hope in hell of sorting ;-(

tyaca · 15/05/2008 12:10

bean - when is your appointment?

beansprout · 15/05/2008 12:20

It's at 4pm today. Doc considered referring us to A&E but decided today was ok.

sarahmikeharryandrosie · 15/05/2008 12:23

oh beany were all thinking of you, xxxx

Egg · 15/05/2008 12:32

Oh Beany . I am sure he will be fine but no wonder you are not coping well today. I would be in pieces. Thank god he is being seen so soon and hopefully they can put your mind at rest asap. Will be thinking of you at 4pm. Presume your DH is there too so you don't have to try to cope on your own at hospital with both DS's.

Tyaca meant to say at 20% below asking. Cheeky buggers.

tyaca · 15/05/2008 12:44

no wonder you're cleaning bean - a 4pm appointment could make for a long day. hope the time passes ok before then. will be crossing fingers for you.

egg ... cant blame 'em tho! i think i'd prob offer two mules and a handful of grain at the moment . what made me chuckle was thinking they'd then come back with maybe a 15% below or something and we'd work from there - but second offer upped by only 3k.... WISH i was a buyer not a seller right now.

rozzyraspberry · 15/05/2008 14:47

Count - just looked back at ds2s red book as I remember his weight gain really slowed down after 8 weeks. He only put on 1lb between 8 and 13 weeks (so 1lb in 5 weeks). I was more concerned than the hv at the time but he's absolutely fine. He really dropped off the charts as he was 9lbs 3 at birth so nearly on 91st centile but dropped to below the 50th centile by 16 weeks. I think generally weight gain of bf babies drops around 3/4 months. I would say 7oz in 2 weeks was good. DS3 only put on 5oz between 8 and 10 weeks then put on 1lb in the next 2 weeks.

Beany - thinking of youxxx

Egg - maybe the twins are getting more nosey - more interested in looking around than feeding? I think that's probably quite common at their age. Bit of a nightmare for you though.

Sounds promising on the flat though tyaca - obviously not the price you want but at least there's interest.

gingermumi · 15/05/2008 15:55

Thanks for info about sleep wear! Hope all ok for beany, she must be at hosp now.

Have started weaning and it's going fine, ds was soooo hungry and bf and ff were not enough. Still bf all the time but he has cereal for breakfast and pureed fruit and/ or veg once or twice a day, It really isn't that awful!! Perhaps you could try some solids egg? ds didn't like baby rice all but loves the cereal. twins are nearly same age as ds so should be fine. Even consultant at hosp recommnded it when we went for app for fits. She thought it was better than replacing breast milk with ff so it cant be too bad to start on the early side. (when dd1 was small you weaned at 12 wks!). Sounds pretty miserable egg, ds eats and eats, sometimes i can't seem to give him enough, there was one day i swapped boobs 5 times (sides not boobs, i am not some hideously deformed creature with five boobs!)and he was still going (thats when i started solids!). Hope they feed better soon, must be really stressful.
