I didn't even hold mine while they got stabbed! They were lying on the bed thing. I did cuddle them straight after though.

Glad your DS2 is doing well. Just given my two their last feed of the day from me (as DH does next one) while DS1 watches his new Postman Pat DVD. We made it to Early Learning, Next, HMV and Superdrug and back home in one piece. DS2 has overeaten and drained his bottle. DD has done her average. DS1 ate three meatballs and a ton of mash and broccoli to make up for rest of day.

Got to go and bath DS1 now and get everyone in bed. DTs are normally ok going to bed now - touch wood! Easier than DS1!!!

Jo9977 · 25/03/2008 18:56

Thanks for all the lovely comments!

Great new thread!

And I just want to say WELL DONE to everyone for doing so brilliantly...even if you feel you aren't. Us mothers don't get enough positive feedback and I think we do the hardest job in the world!!!

Gill - empathise with your terrible night of listening to your LO straining to go - had exactly the same thing with DS2 a couple of weeks ago. He's still doing it, not nearly as badly though, despite changing formula, fiddling around with lactulose, suppositories and infant gaviscon. GP says it's totally normal for them not to poo every day - he's going about every 2nd or 3rd day and they are HUGE - Had the horrible sound effects again last night and getting up to peer in the moses basket but he seemed fast asleep while he was doing it. In the end I just left the room and went and decamped to the sofa just to get some peace. His belly button has also become midly herniated and I'm sure it's connected to all the straining.

Also on subject of body hair - I think it does deplete a lot during pregnancy as we're coursing with oestrogen and then, as you say, comes back with a vengeance. I wish I could say the same about the hair on my head ... does anyone else have postnatal hair, you know, a bit lank, thinning and dull looking?

Just had postnatal check today - a week late - and GP has said that LO has an innocent heart murmur - nothing to worry about according to her but it does need to be monitored. Does anyone else have any experience of this?

On a different note night garden is such a cute programme and so much better than awful Teletubbies which was DS1's just before bedtime TV watching. The music is so sweet as well. DS1 at 7 is strangely drawn to it too now, interspersed with bouts of hideous Jetix and Cartoon Network...

Also have been trying to upload photos onto profile (only just realised that I've been posting here for the last six months without completi

Sorry posting again as hadn't finished my sentence!!

princessllama · 25/03/2008 19:53

i've just added a picture of ferdie to my profile. also had a quick look at malcolm's vid and rozzy's boys and jays3 -all lovely looking, we've bred a good months worth.

mutha2beagain · 25/03/2008 19:57

Also interesting to hear how people are tackling the onerous subject of postnatal exercise. The idea of gym/creche sounds too exhausting. DS1 got a Wii for Xmas and I hear that a whole suite of exercise programmes is coming out for it. Think that might be the course I take as I've never been a fan of exercise bikes!

Will try and upload photos but I think I've got to reduce the size as it keeps crashing when I do it.

alkar · 25/03/2008 21:12

Such a good video Gill, Malcolm is gorgeous. Had a look at some of the other photos from rozz, jays and princess what a lot of cuties! Have added some more pics on Daniel to my profile too

ayrshirelolo · 25/03/2008 21:24

hiya girls! sorry haven't been about for a week, busy with mum, sister, babies etc! haven't got time to catch up properly, will do when i have a spare half hour to myself! just wanted to wave at everyone.....lolo xxxxx

Gill79 · 25/03/2008 21:54

Thanks for all the reassurance about poo! We're only at about 50 hours so clearly got a long way to go! He is squiriming round on daddy's chest getting ready for another noisy night after sleeping all day... Going to get a sleeping bag ready in the front room I think.

Went for my first swim today - felt ok but am still strangely more bouyant around the bottom!

Mutha2be - "innocent" heart murmurs can be very innocent. I was diagnosed with slight heart murmur during pregnancy and the cardiologist despite being extremely conscientious and thorough in every way didn't want to see me again for any sort of check-up - I guess you'll still feel a bit worried about but hope this makes you feel a bit better.

Glad your crap day improved Egg although feel very for your DS1.... whose son is going to win the poo race?

lljkk · 26/03/2008 03:25

Cosima -- I really didn't think much of the advice of Princess's maternity nurse friend. How can she be so prescriptive when she hasn't even met you? BreastFeeding is a biological process, what's normal varies a huge amount. And what are you supposed to do if you don't have somebody handy to walk your baby around while he cries?

Long feeding sessions partly off and mostly on are sometimes called 'cluster feeding' or 'marathon feeding' -- you can google for those terms. It's quite common and considered normal in late afternoon, evening times. If you're getting it round the clock, though, that would be unusual.

Remarkable weight gain: Friend's baby was also born 7.5 lbs and hit 13 lbs in weight by 6 weeks old (5.5 lb weight gain in 6 weeks!)... you hear stories of breastfed babies making 22 lbs at 4months, etc. They never seem to turn into fat kids, either.

I don't eat 3 meals+3 snacks a day, either. I do wolf down my food, though, I thought that was normal with a little baby in the house. And I eat my food while feeding baby. The baby gros don't do well for it, but only because I'm too disorganised to throw a muslin over baby. Eating (and drinking) while baby eats and feeding lying down, those are my top survival tips.

Do formula feeding moms not have to eat while holding or feeding baby, too? If I FF I'd be a chronic bottle propper, I would....

samsmam · 26/03/2008 07:58

Only taken me two weeks to get this done!!

Just a short video of some of the photos taken. The other small baby is my SIL baby born 1.5 days before Sophie and of course the older LO is my DD1. x

mutha2beagain · 26/03/2008 08:06

Unfortunately us formula feeding mums do not have the calorie privileges of you breastfeeders - the thing I miss the most about breastfeeding and pregnancy is the ultimate right to stuff your face.

One of the advantages of formula feeding for me is the speed that LO can drain a bottle - 4oz in ten minutes which means I can generally eat uninterrupted, although I have to wean myself off the habit of all day grazing - the muffin top is starting to grow alarmingly and I do miss my firm bump profile, but I think this is more about the cheeky glasses of wine I've started drinking in the evening. The no booze embargo in pregnancy is so good for the figure!!

sarahmikeharryandrosie · 26/03/2008 08:33

Princess Ferdie id gorge- so much like his sister too- well done you!!!

sarahmikeharryandrosie · 26/03/2008 08:40

alkar Daniel is gorge also-

samsmam love your video clip- what a clever thing to do!!!!!

We really have made beautiful jan-march babies

princessllama · 26/03/2008 11:33

egg and gill, i know i always say this, but have you thought of trying osteopathy for the poo problem? can't imagine it would be easy to get yourself to one i know. i used to have patients that came specifically for constipation and usually i had a rapid effect yes, the queen of poo. sadly, can't say i managed on my own daughter when she was like this, i remember the days that were just wiped out by grizzling due to discomfort.
anyone else's mil's driving them round the bend? am desperately trying to keep temper under control but she winds me up. keep trying to remember that if she wasn't here we'd be stuffed, she's doing loads with dd and helping in night if we need her to. she was in a bad mood last night and felt like she was saying things just to get a response, like you'll find ferdinand will get really popular now, and ferdie isn't a proper name (apparently jack isn't either)

leesmum · 26/03/2008 12:28

princess ferdie is a brill name and don't shout at me but maybe the new england captain might score for him tonight Your two are very good looking children x

samsmam i love your video, what a nice thing to keep for your beautiful girls

Oh and princess my mil is in spain, she's actually a lovely woman its my fil thats a bit of a gobshite!!!

Alkar how you getting on? Daniel looks gorgeous in his rugby outfit, my dp loves his rugby and when i get time i'll put pics of my two boys with their england rugby kit on x

Hi mutha we have a wii as well and i've heard about the excersise game but to be honest by the time both boys have gone to bed i'm too knackered to do anything

thequietone · 26/03/2008 12:45

Sob...my DS2 is 4 weeks old now. Does anyone try to keep their babies awake in the day, and does this help them sleep better at night? He sleeps loads in the day and nighttimes he feeds at 10.30, 2, 4, 6. On about 4 occasions there has been a wide awake little DS2 from 3-5.30am. I'm going insane. My DS1 was never like this. I'm beginning to wonder whether to start some routine now.
Any advice would be gratefully received, as I don't get any help at night from DH (he works away a lot or sleeps in the spare room with earplugs and a snifter of whisky to ensure a nice night's sleep....the sod).

rozzyraspberry · 26/03/2008 13:48

Hi all.

Managed to get all 3 in bed by 7.15 last night. DH was on a nightshift so I went to bed at 8. Was up with lo at 10,1 and 4 but still managed to get at least 7 hours sleep. Now that bedtime is kind of sorted I suppose the next thing I have to do is try to get more routine naps in the day when I can put him in bed. Not that confident though as I'll have to try and work it round the nursery drop off and pick up.

Thequietone - I don't stop ds3 sleeping in the day but tbh he really fights sleep in the day anyway. What I do do is not let him go for longer than 3 hours between feeds in the day. When he starts to go for longer between feeds in the night I'll let him go longer in the day too.

smithfield · 26/03/2008 14:17

hi

Im really hoping you lovely ladies will let me join your thread.

Did originally join the antenatal thread at the very start and then kind of dropped out .

Ive been following your last thread in antenatal section, and found it to be lifesaving (literally)! To just read about other mums going through much of what I was/still am!

I have a ds who is 3 and a dd who is just 4 weeks.

Unfortunately she is a very unsettled baby generally (although seems like she may be settling down now) fingers crossed. Although strangely she has (apart from first two nights) slept very well at night 12 til 3.30/4 feed. then through til 6/6.30. This is the only thing which has kept me sane I think . She literally has not slept much more than 40 mins during the day forthemostpart. There have been several days where she has screamed from one end of the day to the other!

Princess- I am booked in for a session of cranial osteopathy on tuesday. Thought Id give it a go as she seems to have a lot of discomfort generally. Hope it works! She was rapid delivery so makes sense to try it.

Egg- My ds had same issues with his poos. Is your ds toilet trained? Mine started holding it in when he began toilet training. Plus his diet is shocking (very picky eater) so prone to constipation.
I Gave him calfig initially max dose, so he simply couldnt hold on to it any longer.
Now his more sorted I put a bit of wheatgerm on his cereal in the morning and this seems to keep him regular.

Anyway could write loads more...but will hold back for now...and await your kind acceptance into the fold

leesmum · 26/03/2008 15:10

Hi Smithfield you are very welcome to join the club and feel free come on here with all your worries/whinges and whines oh and the great times as well xx

mitfordsisters · 26/03/2008 15:57

welcome smithfield - sorry about the screaming - i know how wearing it is.

and congrats on your lovely baby princess - don't suppose there'll be many other ferdies around. my mil drove me nuts as well - she couldn't hold in her advice, though she did try. dh had to referee and give me pep talks as i was reverting to kevin the teenager! she did make me meals and cups of tea though and i love her really!

quietone - think there is a link between daytime naps and nighttime sleep. when hector sleeps all day, he tends to be more wakeful at night. gutted as can't seem to wake him at all today! i'm in for it tonight.

omy · 26/03/2008 16:13

Hi smithfield - welcome - it is nice when lurkers become emboldened to join the fray! Thanks to princess' recommendation my LO has chilled out in the last 2 weeks (she is 6 weeks old) - intense 3 hour induced delivery - I don't think she was very impressed!

the quiet one - i think babies are supposed to have about 15 hours sleep in every 24. i don't know how you could keep a 4 wk old baby awake! I cope with the night by not really waking up - BF helps - i can stay in bed!

took LO to my work today and it was very nice but weird - my brain cells have all been swallowed up by LO - i know i will struggle to think when i go back to work!

OP posts:
Egg · 26/03/2008 16:16

I love the name Ferdie .

So... could cranial osteopathy help both my boys or just the baby one? DS2 has managed more poo today, with some help from me (have to encourage him as though he is in labour and let him push against my hands with his feet whilst he pushes his poo out). DS1 is a lost cause. He just wont let it come out....... I need to give him a harsh dose of laxatives or a rocket up his bottom poor lad.

My two are sleeping slightly worse at night now that they sleep well in the evening. They used to cry most of the time from 7-10pm, now they sleep, which is great, but means they are a bit more unsettled at night. Not too bad though. Was up at 3am with DS2 and 4am with DD, then 7am. DS2 spent ages going back to sleep after night feed but not crying just grunting and snuffling.

Got DS1 to the swings, Early Learning (again), balloon shop (Clintons), McDonalds and also got him some new shoes, as well as getting a few bits in M&S so felt we achieved something this morning. Doula was home with babies making my life easier!

Anyone else think BIG BARN FARM is fabulous?

Egg · 26/03/2008 16:18

Sorry smithfield, of course you are welcome back. It means it stops us wondering about you as we have quite a few ladies who joined the list and then went missing so we have been worrying about what happened to them. Congrats on your new DD .

I cannot keep mine awake in day when I want to. For example DS2 is asleep at mo, despite sleeping circa 3 hours at lunch. Great I know but I worry about the night...

beansprout · 26/03/2008 17:52

Welcome Smithfield! I have a 3yo too (quite a few of us have) so please pass on your top sibling tips too!!

Has anyone else got no real routine with their lo? Ds2 sleeps fairly well at night but won't sleep in his cot by day, so I end up putting him in the sling and he sleeps that way. I am always out at some point so this is not a real problem but it is starting to niggle at me. I don't want to go for the cold turkey option but would appreciate any tips as to how I could get things a bit more on track.
Rozzy - am very impressed that you had all yours in bed by 7.15pm. Titch just does not want to go down for the night before 10.30 or so. 9.15pm is my record but I think that was a fluke!! Arghhhhh!!!!
