welcome retrodolly!
my lo is the same re tummy time so I have given up! he cries so pitifully I don't have the heart to make him do it!

Gill79 · 08/05/2008 11:46

Morning Glory - what a hideous nightmare at the pool. Hope you are well recovered from the trauma!

NHS direct said she thought it might be infected and best to take him to the docs. However it was much clearer yesterday morning and the thought of hours waiting in the docs for an emergency appointment versus sun.... garden.... getting some desperately needed housework done.... etc etc So I was a Bad Mother.

Missing the London meet-up today we are still full of cold - although DS is very snotty he doesn't seem to have felt quite as rough as his parents did, thank god. For a bad moment we thought it might be scarlet fever as a friend's bf has just had it and it started with a nasty sore throat just like us....

DP went to get the new travel cot from John Lewis only to discover that it had the same problem as the last one! So we've given up on travel cots completely.

retrodolly · 08/05/2008 14:03

Salyforth - Thanks just noticed we have similar tastes in films + TV. Tho, of recent, House has been hard to watch, the extreme illnesses make me anxious...

tyaca · 08/05/2008 15:35

is there a "taking a bow" emoticion?? did buses, trains, a mothercare detour AND survived! lovely to put names to faces at meet up - esther slept whole way home too. we rock!

cosima · 08/05/2008 16:04

London bridgers!!! I'm so sorry, I couldn't make it cos I got to the station all prepared and there were no trains because of a fire in woolwich and so I navigated a bus!! to Eltham and then there were still no trains and I gave up. and I really wanted to come and was so well prepared. RATS! How was it? When is the next?

tyaca · 08/05/2008 17:18

cosima - that sounds like a right 'mare. real shame not to meet you... but good to have an extra reason for another meet up soon ...

sallyforth · 08/05/2008 17:21

retrodolly - so we have! I also really like Amelie and the Earthsea Trilogy as well
funny how the hormones make some things unbearable, there's a track on LO's lullaby CD that I can't listen to because it's all about a daddy singing to comfort a baby because the mummy has gone away (circumstances otherwise unspecified) oh it makes me well up each time! much worse than the illnesses on House!!

gingermumi · 08/05/2008 17:25

Was going to catch up but dd1 just phoned in tears, has broken down and doen't know where she is, is crying. told her to ring rac and hopefully they can pin point location via mobile signal. Better go and see what i can do.

tyaca · 08/05/2008 17:29

oh, and hello retrodolly

mitfordsisters · 08/05/2008 17:38

good to meet you all at london bridge - no honours for me as i live round the corner. Next time gill and cosima?? how frustrating - hope you had a good day anyhow.

we spent the morning in a&e - i have a hideous deformity (seriously!) that doctor says is not life threatening - phew. first time i've left hector for any length of time, so dh wheeled him round praying he would last until i got out of the hell hole that is a&e. i cleverly failed to hand over babywipes to dh and had to rush out with them just as the consultant & registrar came in to tend to me. very to keep them waiting but at the time it seemed very important he had them, and they were understanding about it

cosima · 08/05/2008 18:25

Who was there? What did you talk about? could you guess who was who? what is your deformity Mitford? Did the babies all vary greatly in size?

mitfordsisters · 08/05/2008 19:04

I thought princess was tyaca as she has red hair and imagined tyaca was ginge as esther is one... also, morning glory - i've put a picture up.

i've got neck issues, and feel like the elephant man. never going out again.

We wondered about Saskia and whether she will really have a tummy tuck, the cost of formula, cloth nappies, christenings (shocking revelations from morning glory).
i now have a slightly more balanced view of boris johnson also, though he is still a tory.

cosima · 08/05/2008 19:07

Oh!!

mitfordsisters · 08/05/2008 19:31

ANnoying about the trains!

God, i love this weather. I planted some seeds (sage and thyme) on Saturday and already they are beginning to sprout.

Egg · 08/05/2008 19:52

Oooh it is lovely to look at that pic of you all out today . I too would have guessed at princess and tyaca as the other way round for some reason. Also had a peek at Hector's pics, he really is very handsome. He reminds me of my DS2 a bit, but without such a fat head as DS2!

Had a nice day today, DS1 at nursery all day, and babies slept at totally different times to each other which meant no time free without one or other for me, but nice as I had some one-on-one times with them both which is quite rare. DD has had two feeds on her new Comfort milk, the first one I was not sure about as she slept afterwards but then woke up yelling and nothing would stop her for nearly an hour (quite unusual), but when we went out to get DS1 she was fine as soon as we left the house and seems ok after her 6pm feed.

Ginger hope DD1 is ok. When I was also 20 I had my first car. It cost me £1000. I had it on the road for nine months, I had NINE AA callouts (two within two hours once, for two different reasons) and it cost me £1200 in repairs during that nine months. The first time I broke down I called my parents in tears (I was stuck in rush hour traffic blocking everyone so lots of horns beeping at me ), the second time I called AA first, then my parents, by the third time I was such an expert I just dealt with it on my own...

After the last time I broke down (fast lane of M1 motorway ), I then didn't drive for TEN WHOLE YEARS and only started again as I was pg with DS1 and knew it would be helpful.

Sorry, long story!

cosima · 08/05/2008 19:54

how do i look at the pics of the meet up?

Egg · 08/05/2008 20:02

cosima I thought you were going mad, saying "how do I look" as in "what do you think of my outfit" when you weren't even there... Now I see what you mean. You click on mitfordsisters name on her last post, which brings up her profile, then down at the bottom click on mitfordsisters pictures and it is THERE!

rozzyraspberry · 08/05/2008 20:33

Hi everyone!

Nice to see pics of everyone at the meet-up - it's funny how you get a picture in your mind of how people look when you've never seen them!

Went out and got some school trousers for ds1 today (starts school in August). Another mum told me it can be hard to get them nearer the time. Not sure how true that is but it's another thing ticked off the list anyhow. Got a cute pair of school shorts - not sure if he'll ever wear them but they were reduced to £2.50 and irresistable! Still can't believe my little boy is starting school but he is so looking forward to it.

DS3 has reached new lows on daytime sleeps. For the last 2 days he's slept for less than 1.5 hours between 7.30am and 7pm. Doesn't even fall asleep when we're out walking with the buggy now - and he's crying a lot more whilst in the buggy. I hope it's just a phase as he has got a cold and got his immunisations yesterday but it is a pain. Also it would be nice to have a whole meal without him on my lap!

Leesmum - I've been thinking about you a lot this week. You sounded a bit down on your last post on Monday - hope you're ok and just off enjoying the weather.

Off to have a baileys as lo is having ebm for supper tonight!

rozzyraspberry · 08/05/2008 20:47

Oh and I forgot to say that after 3 weeks of ds being one of the more 'challenging' babies at baby massage, we did the face today and he was the only one who liked it(smug emotion).

Also, those of you who watch the apprentice (I think you mentioned you did beany?) wasn't that 'I'm a good jewish boy' thing hilarious last night. First of all he didn't know what kosher meant, then he crossed himself before he went into the boardroom - wtf!!

retrodolly · 08/05/2008 23:36

Hello Tyaca! Another Diana Wynne Jones fan I see.

Deeply to hear about the London meetup, maybe I can make the next one... if DH will agree to stay with DD...

LO peacefully asleep after a bit fractious evening. How many burpings does it take, really, before they stop crying somedays?

Really feel all floppy and sucked dry now but strangely satisfying, to know she'll sleep thru till 5 or 6. Gawd, some sleep!

tyaca · 09/05/2008 00:14

retro - good-o re DWJ, she's fab, isnt she? tho' its a testament to how much having a baby has frazzled my brain that at the mo i couldnt even reread a children's book

touch wood there'll be another meet up soon, talk is of regents park

gingermumi - hope your dd is ok and you've had an ok evening.

rozza - glad your ds liked the face work, head stuff is the best part of any massage so he is clearly a discerning baby. the daytime sleep thing prob not a trend so much as unsettled cause of cold and injections ... fingers crossed

gill - glad your ds is ok now, save for the cold. you were missed today, would have been nice to catch up. lol at Bad Mummy comment. i was Rubbish Mummy but can now cast that moniker aside in light of my london bridge mission

egg - wd you for getting such value from your AA membership....

.... and finally, morningglory ... am retelling the christening story to dh and he wants to know whether its was your or your dh's parent? couldnt remember

fingers crossed for another sunny day tomo

cosima · 09/05/2008 09:20

egg - thankyou, i found the pic, (and i was wearinng my best clothes for the mumsnet meet btw)

I want to know the morning glory christening story, I'm sooo jealous

Egg · 09/05/2008 10:12

I want to know toooooooooooo. I hate being left out .

I have Earthsea trilogy too . I loved it when I was at school and re-bought it about 5 years ago (when LOTR was in cinema, I wanted to remind DH that there are other great "fantasy" books).

tyaca · 09/05/2008 10:29

morning morning. cosima, i too was in my best clothes. i've been into town twice now since dd came along and each time i do i am so shocked by how groomed, shiney and slim everyone is.

well, dd started getting mardy last night and for the first time i fully swaddled her for sleep (used to half swaddle her first few weeks) cause she was keeping herself awake with all her flailing. WELL - she slept ALL way thru nthe night. she's been quite a good sleeper in general anyway... but last night it was 8.30pm til 7am... no waking no feed.

she's crochety as anything today tho'....

cosima · 09/05/2008 11:29

Anyone getting soppier as the weeks go on? My poor baby is going to be a little lord Fontleroy if I don't get a grip!
