Right I need some guidance. Next weekend we have a wedding to attend in the lakes BUT more hurdles keep popping up as to attending it. Should we still go?
It's one of those dos whereby the guests book out the whole hotel and that covers some of the cost, so I'm worried about not going and still having to pay the full cost of the room (£150 for one night!!!). The cost of the room is one of the cons as are: no-one to look after our dogs (can take them for extra ££'s!), a long drive with DD, not a massive fan of the groom and how the bride (our friend) met him. But the pros are: seeing another set of friends who we love, seeing the bride, errrr and I love the lakes.

I'm just getting twitchy about it and it doesn't help that dd is still a snotty little minx... Arrrrghhh!

sianihedgehog · 07/11/2015 17:01

mzzzf I reckon next week is too close to get out of paying, but if it's a really long drive and only the one night it sounds like it might still be nicer not going. Would you just end up sitting alone in your expensive hotel room with an unhappy baby? That'd be my fear.

sianihedgehog · 07/11/2015 17:02

fatty what's the website with the baby names?

FattyNinjaOwl · 07/11/2015 17:21

siani here
It only goes to 2014. Just type a name and it comes up with a graph. Tap/click the graph and it tells you how many babies had that name in the year.

sianihedgehog · 07/11/2015 17:25

Ooh, that's great, thanks fatty!

Frolicacid · 07/11/2015 17:29

Mugabe!
I've been awol due to actually leaving the house for the first time this week other than to the vets. Yay! Ds and I have had a lovely lunch at a friends and then coffee with another friend. Cabin fever is fully cured! And dh cleaned all of the house while I was out. I think he only did it because he wanted to go surfing this afternoon without feeling guilty Smile
Poor old frolicdog is still improving. We're not quite out of the woods, but she's way more comfortable and the war on shit seems to be over. Phew!

I hope you're all better chez fatty? I think you need to go out after dark, mission impossible style, find your bin and steal it back. Cheeky buggers!

Glad the scan went well siani.
I am Envy at your shrinking boobs and waist! You are obviously not eating enough of the foods recommended on this thread Wink

I love Chester zoo slow! I can't wait to take ds next summer. We live down the coast in north wales, so It's our nearest big city for shopping as well.
No tips on the bottle thing I'm afraid. People keep telling me to give ds one regularly so he gets used to it, but I'm too lazy to bother.

Yes to banning fireworks apart from displays mzzf. I hope your dogs are ok. Frolicdog must be going a bit deaf because she didn't do her usual hiding under the duvet from them this year.
For napping, I have been lying next to ds, rather than having him on me to settle iykwim. The time he needs me to lie the holding the dummy is getting shorter and he will occasionally self settle now. Might be worth trying with dd.
I also get hormonal migraines. Usually around ovulation. They are utterly shit. I may breastfeed for ever just to keep them away. Have you tried triptans for them? Amazing stuff and the only thing that work for me.
I can't believe that waitrose give you all the free stuff. I dpubt they deliver around here as the nearest shop is about 30 miles away Sad.
It's a tricky one about the wedding. You could end up having quite a nice time. Can you make time for some nice walks / a bit of exploring either side of the wedding? Dd could give you a great excuse to fuck off for a bit when things get too much.
Can you ring and find out if you will still be charged for the room?

Glad you had a good meal out lily. Men can be so unthoughtful sometimes. I am very envious of your trip to see the illuminations. My grandparents used to take us and it was my favourite holiday as a kid.

I reckon your dh is totally fixing the no wi-Fi in the bedroom thing loves! Get some condoms in case the tv 'breaks'! Wink

Welcome grok! Always room for more at Mugabe nights.

Sweetcorn instead of chocolate giraffes?! How did you not kill the man?
We have a hand and foot print kit thing, but keep forgetting to do it!

Ds has been asleep for almost 4 hours now! I think I may have to go give him a poke or my boobs might explode!

Grok · 07/11/2015 18:22

Thanks for the warm welcome everyone! I love a bar with no calorie treats and I defo have enough sleepless nights banked to buy everyone a round! What will we have?

Baby did not nap at all today. I got her asleep after feeding her but as soon as I put her in her crib she woke up raging. So we Went into town but napping was not on the menu. I'm so tired and baby screaming just has me short on patience; have been debating all day if I should give out to husband about him slacking around the house.
And, since I'm bitching, can I say - hospital wants me to get down to 9 stone (I'm maybe 10.5 now? Dunno, scales are broken). I had gestational diabetes so it's a preventative measure but holy shit - no one weighs 9 stone! Anyway, sleep deprived and hungry make me dangerous company. We might need a cage in Mugabe Nights to contain me!

Now, Where's my drink...

FattyNinjaOwl · 07/11/2015 18:35

grok Shock are you a cage dancer?
Wink

Fanby · 07/11/2015 18:52

Muuuuuugabe! Hope everyone has had a good Saturday. We're 12 weeks and growth spurting! All we've done today is boob and nap, not a bad Saturday as Ive worked our way through the sky box. She's just chugged 5 ml of expressed milk too Confused.

Hmmm to wedding or not to wedding...I have no answers except why do people think it's acceptable to book out a hotel and still charge £150 a night?! We got mates rates at the hotel we got married in but it was still £100 a night and there is a travel lodge just down the road, most people stayed there and quite rightly so lol!

Can't remember anything else because my head hurts boohoo. Might have some red wine, that'll help ey?!

Welcome grok! You sound like you're going to fit right in at Mugabe nights!!! Xx

kbro79 · 07/11/2015 19:02

Oh dear. Our internet doesn't reach our bedroom either (despite living in a small flat) Better stock up on condoms before I end up with 6 babies Wink

Fatty that website is addictive. Am looking every baby I know up.

Hmmm mzzzf tricky one. We were invited to a wedding when DS was 6 weeks that we didn't go to (invite was v last minute as think we took the space of someone who dropped out so didn't cost us anything) but I did regret afterwards not going. However at the time it felt too much. Know it's difficult but maybe try and think in a few months time will you look back and think you wish you had gone or look back and be pleased you didn't have the stress of journey, dog sitters, snotty baby etc As someone said to me though, this is a time in your life to be selfish so just think what's best for you and no one else.

Ok is it awful to admit that I really don't want to go out tonight and it's not about new mum worries about leaving DS. Actually feel fine about that. It's just its cold, dark, strictly and Dr who are on, am stupidly tired (we had a few extra trips to magabe nights last night) and my boobs don't fit in anything I own. But I'll have a coffee, pop some lippy on and am sure will be alright when I get there.

Can't remember who asked about bottle but second the warming up option. Also not sure if it's expressed or formula but if formula, I know someone's baby who won't take the ready made stuff so may be just a case of trail and error with type/brand? Same with bottle type. I've been v lucky as DS takes bottle fine but my nephew was a bottle refuser and she had to just keep trying till found the perfect combo of formula and bottle type (although ends up v pricey) Good luck.

Right am off to find my night out mojo. Probably in back of wardrobe, under the skinny jeans and underwired bras.

kbro79 · 07/11/2015 19:06

Oh and welcome grok. Always v nice to see new people on a bar stool! Feel your pain about the napping. DS loves to spend the day nap avoiding. Fun times eh?

Grok · 07/11/2015 19:37

Kbro79, laughing at your boob predicament! I'm the same. And nursing bras do not flatter. I got to wear a proper bra last week for afternoon tea with SIL & I kept showing off my boobs just because it was so nice to not have boob shelf!

DD asleep finally (on me), out for the night 1.5 hours early! Prob just setting herself up for spending the night at Mugabu!

Fanby · 07/11/2015 19:58

Ahh have a fun time Kbro!!! You will enjoy it once you're out in sure!!!

I third the temperature warming of the bottle, molly likes her bottles like her baths, hot...

X

FattyNinjaOwl · 07/11/2015 20:17

I'm lucky. All.my babies have taken cold bottles straight from the fridge (I make up the days bottles, cool and store at back of fridge)

Fanby · 07/11/2015 20:36

Fatty, that makes me so jealous! There is a baby in our NCT group that takes his cold. I'm so amazed!!

FattyNinjaOwl · 07/11/2015 20:38

They are just greedy and they hate waiting so they learn quite early they get it quicker if its cold Grin

Clstow · 07/11/2015 20:53

Mugabe one and all - and welcome Grok, great to meet new bar flies.

My DS is also a nap refuser (he's a sling only kinda guy) but have been working on project nap and he did 30 minutes in the Moses basket today! It took 22 minutes of white noise and bum patting but hey, a step in the right direction I reckon.

Kbro's advice on the wedding is great - having a LO means you can legitimately just do what's best for you guys, I personally I love a wedding, but can see the downsides too. Tricky one.

Have a great night out Kbro, I'm with you on the bras as well. Was meaning to ask actually... Pro mums how quickly do your boobs change once you stop BF? Do they drop back to pre pregnancy size? I'm up for getting some good bras but switching to FF in Dec so not sure if I should wait?

Bottles - if they refuse regular ones there's a crazy expensive boob-like one called mimijumi or something like that. I'm lucky that DS isnt fussy and happily swaps between bottle and boob, and drinks expressed milk cold from the fridge so hoping he'll do the same with formula.

Had such a nice afternoon in the pub, DS was charming they

Clstow · 07/11/2015 20:55

Sorry posted too soon...

Charming the pants off everyone. Left OH there though and am gonna kill him if he comes home late and is too hungover to be of any use tomorrow.

Hope it's a quiet night in the bar - good luck everyone.

rrra · 07/11/2015 21:09

My DS has had a cough since yesterday but now has a slight wheeze. Have googled and it could be bronchiolitus. Prob not spelt like that. Anyway feel worried, although NHS site says usually mild and no treatment needed. Will probably worry through the night and call 111 in the morning if still wheezing. He seems ok in himself, feeding, pooing and weeing ok. I'm doing the right thing, aren't I?

So no doubt I'll have multiple Mugabe bar visits tonight, even if he is sleeping!

FattyNinjaOwl · 07/11/2015 21:18

Yes you are. Try not to worry too much as its probably nothing. If no better in the morning phone for advice though. My DS1 had a chest infection as a baby and needed amoxycilin (sp?)

Slowifeandthegrumpydwarfs · 07/11/2015 21:44

Evening all,

Grumpy 2 has gone down early tonight as well (7:45pm). Am slightly concerned as to how early that means we will be visiting Mugabe Nights, my money is on a 3am feed - ugh!

Thanks everyone for the tips on bottles. Its ebm that we are trying to force feed her but we have cranked up the temperature. Its always DH doing the bottling, I tend to be as far away as humanly possible. Tonight he did try sitting her in the bouncer (thanks rrra for that tip!) and it seemed to work. She only took an ounce over 50 minutes Hmm but there was absolutely no screaming! Hooray! So, I am hoping that with perseverance we can nail this. If not she's going to be making her first trip to the big smoke in exactly a month...

frolic Its DHs master plan to move further down the coast into Wales proper. He managed to convince me that leaving London was a good idea, now he's working on me to agree to a move out of an urban area entirely. He's always hated living in cities. Plus, he wants some land to store the collection of crumbing VWs. I'll give in eventually but I like to make him work for these things Smile. We do love the zoo though, before grumpy 1 started school we had been known to pack some sandwiches and just go and eat our lunch next to a random animal for the fun of it.

Hi grok and welcome to the dark side.

clstow On the bra front, my boobs never went back to 'normal'. Before grumpy 1 I was a 34B but since then I have been a 36D, 34C and now I am a 34F. My only advice is just to get yourself measured fairly regularly and don't spend too much on bras. How come you are switching to ff in December? Are you getting ready to go back to work?

rrra you are doing the right thing, try not to worry too much but do remember that you can (and should) call 111 if you are concerned. Health care professionals are always happy to check out babies. We spent a lot of time at the out of hours doctor with grumpy 1 due to her chest and a nasty bout of rotavirus and no-one was anything other than happy to check her out.

I made a carrot cake this afternoon and am now eating my way through it. DH and grumpy 1 went to the big fireworks display at the racecourse tonight but grumpy 2 and I stayed in and watched from our bedroom window. Much better idea Grin. Its cold and dark out there. I hope you have a great night out kbro and to everyone else, may the sleep be with you!

mzzzf · 07/11/2015 21:54

Rrra you're doing fine re the chest and wheezing as it is. And 111 is perfect for any advice. However, I'm a respiratory physio and I'm saying the next bit as advice rather than scare you. If the wheeze changes to making a noise on BOTH the way in and out then please get your LO checked asap. Likewise if their breathing gets super fast, super shallow or super slow. And if there is ANY tinge of blue on lips/mouth.
Saying ALL that though it is likely to be just a normal chest bug and nothing more than TLC will be needed Grin

MaGratgarlik1983 · 07/11/2015 21:57

I'm starting to think this is the 12 week growth spurt - we are now feeding every hour to hour and a half!

nolongerwaitingfornumber2 · 07/11/2015 22:18

Mugabe ladies and welcome Grok. I'll have a glass of prosecco if your dark circles are buying!

Lovely day here with my folks and a birthday party. DD has been a joy and not brattish at all for once! DS has fed, slept, giggled and observed all day. Now they are 3 months I think they get more interesting and their little personalities start to emerge. I am having a bit of an emotional day and this evening nearly cried at Strictly! I just feel very lucky to have such amazing children. When I was a child I always thought that marriage and kids happened to other people so have to pinch myself that I am part of that club too.

Kbro, hope you have a good night out although I totally relate to just wanting to curl up on the sofa when it's cold outside.
Mzzzf, I actually think I'd be tempted to go to the wedding. You might have a lovely time and a night in a hotel is always fun. Plus the long car journey might not be as bad as you think.

Fatty, what a great website. Thanks for posting the link! Hope you get a nice peaceful weekend this week.

Grok, how tall are you? I am imagining 2ft if they want you to weigh 9st!! I currently weigh 11 and want to get to 10 and I'm 5'6". I could never weigh less than 10 stone.

Clstow, my boobs just gradually returned to normal as DD started to reduce her feeds. I stopped at 14 months and was a FF before pregnancy though. I started to wear normal underwired bras around 6 months as I found clothes when in feeding bras just looked horrid. We have a joke I'm asking for a boob lift as soon as I finish feeding this time (unless DH wins the argument in favour of number 3 that is).

Rrra, yes just monitor and call in the morning. Out of hours doc will always see a baby I'm sure.

Slow, I did what one of the bfing counsellors suggested:

  • Don't try when they are screaming for a feed.
-Give a bit of boob first then introduce the bottle for the first few times.
  • Next time don't give the boob but you feed them.
  • Once they'll take from you get someone else to give the bottle

Worked like a charm for us and the good thing is if you don't give a bottle for a while and they seem reluctant to take it just start the process over again for a few days before you need to leave the baby.

Right, I have drained my glass and am ready to go to bed now. Sending good night's sleep vibes to all zzzzzz

everythingispeachy · 07/11/2015 22:21

Hello! Sorry not posted for a wee while. I was wondering around outside mugabe nights last night but was refused entry as I was covered in piss. Ds leaked through his gro bag and the other was in the wash so he spent the rest of the night in his snow suit. Bad mother.

Both Ds have been in bed since 8 so had a couple of glasses of prosecco so can't remember who has said what but in no particular order.

  1. yes it's me with the connecta. I have grey and yellow giraffes. Skulls sounds cool though.

2 Wedding. generally I have found if I'm not sure about going to something if I make the effort to go I usually don't regret it. But if you choose to stay at home you won't know what you have missed so that's fine too. This fence is giving me splinters!

3 Boobs. Mine settled down quite quickly after I stopped bf at 7months last time. Although they were saggier sp? And my back size never went back down to 32. Still at 34 2 years later. 36 nowSad

  1. Bottles. Ds1 needed top ups as a newborn so had bottles very early on. Never a problem and no nipple confusion. He then didn't have a bottle again till 6 months and he seemed to take to it well. In fact he loved his bottle so much we only got rid of it a couple of months ago. Sorry that isn't helpful but the advice above about heat and getting dh to do the feed seem helpful.

5 diet. I need motivation but it seems really hard just now. Anyone willing to join me on Monday? I thought the weight was supposed to fall off when breastfeeding Angry

Welcome grok. It's nice not to be the newest member of mugabe nights anymore. It's a friendly place, i'll buy you a drink tonight.

Right off to bed. Later ladies!
