Morning all,

Sian that's a funny story in h&m. Last week when baby giraffe was crying one day and wouldn't stop, after about ten minutes she did a couple of farts and then went quiet Grin I thought how funny it was that four adults were delighted that she had managed to fart and the crying had stopped Grin

loves I am still amazed that you have six children, my mind boggles with how you cope with them!

nolonger baby giraffe is the same, she loves being cuddled in the night. Her favourite sleeping position is laying across my abdomen with her head by the boob so she can feed at leisure. Sometimes when I try to put the boob away she detects, even whilst in a deep sleep, and latches on again frantically!!! I suppose if I could have a nice bed in the kitchen with my favourite foods on tap any never need to move then I'd be happy too!

Afm sorry to hear that others are struggling but I'm glad I'm not alone. I think it'll get easier again around the 6 month mark when babies can do lots more.

I don't want to leave my dc overnight (and baby can't be left due to bf anyway) but a break for an hour would be nice! I have a massage voucher which I'll use after Christmas once baby is weaning, then dh can have both dc for a couple of hours Grin.

Btw I have been testing the Christmas chocolates to ensure they're all up to scratch and can confirm the waitrose own brand version of quality street are very nice, as are the Sainsbury version (I tend to boycott nestle). I may get another tub just to be sure Grin

mzzzf · 03/12/2015 09:11

I need vitamin C pronto!! Scratchy throat and green snot, I will not have my one chance at uninterrupted sleep interrupted by a fucking cold!!! No frickin' way!!!!!!!

DD is getting less comfortable sleeping on me for naps now she's getting longer. I've always had big boobs despite lack of milk so they're mightily getting in DDs way as she tries to get comfy. So after 10mins of angry wriggling and crying I walked upstairs and deposited her in her cot, settled her with hand and face stroking and BOOM! 45 min nap in cot. Thank you Christmas baby Jesus!!!

Let's have a power Thursday fuelled by chocolate and coffee!!!

kbro79 · 03/12/2015 10:15

DS farts make me laugh too. Everything else he does is so tiny and cute but he farts like an old man. DH has invented a game called 'fart or follow through'. He is going to record DS and then sell it to nct. He reckons it's right up there street.

DS had an ok night although was a nightmare to settle and didn't go to sleep till about midnight. He then slept till 4am and was up for boob. Then up again at 5:30 for a poo (and boob to resettle) and co slept till 8:30. So much better than we were having. Sorry to hear others are having a terrible time of it. Sleep deprivation is cruel like nothing else.

DS is a big boy too. Born on 91st and tracking between 91st and 75th. He eats ALL THE TIME. He is lucky I am too lazy to read Gina ford or baby whisperer as he would hate a feeding schedule. He has been in 3 to 6 clothes for ages and some 6 to 9. He also disproves the theories about there being a magic weight. DS is always beyond the weight people mention and doesn't sleep through.

I think he comfort feeds in the evenings too. Sometimes he'll root like mad and then as soon as I latch him not want it. Other times he'll just feed on and off all evening. I don't mind too much as like you say giraffe is good for there stress levels. Although I am desperate for him to go to bed and us get our evenings back. I just don't think he is ready. Some told me the comfort / cluster feeding eases when they wean so fingers crossed. Saying that someone told me it eases at 6 weeks, then 12 weeks, then 16...........

kbro79 · 03/12/2015 10:36

Ah missed a whole page of posts. Mzzzf that is bloody awesome about the nap in cot. I am happy for you and insanely jealous in equal measure. Sending you big get well vibes!

mzzzf · 03/12/2015 11:12

Don't be too jealous kbro she's been sleeping on me for the last hour Confused
Permission to say balls!!

FattyNinjaOwl · 03/12/2015 11:42

I've had overtired screaming for the last hour. It's still going on. He just won't sleep 😢

Giraffescandance1 · 03/12/2015 12:04

Just a quick bargain alert! Sainsbury have 25% off all clothes including baby gros etc and it also includes gro bags! So they are a super cheap £9 each, never seen cheaper than this, I've stocked up on different sizes Grin the girls ones are very cute with bunnies and the boys ones nice too.

OMC1 · 03/12/2015 12:46

Afternoon ladies! My goodness, where has the time gone? I've hardly had any time to come on here since DD was born, we've had terrible colic and now teething!

I imagine I've missed loads! How is everyone?

Slowifeandthegrumpydwarfs · 03/12/2015 14:02

Happy lunchtime!

Grumpy 2 is continuing this weeks theme of massive daytime snoozes to compensate for horrible night-time lack of sleep due to snot choking. It still baffles me as to why lying flat in the pram to sleep during the day does not bring on the snot choking whereas lying flat in the cot at night does. Babies are pickles.

Having said that DH and I did get a couple of hours in our own bed (together!) last night after elevating the head end of the cot and attacking grumpy 2 with the snot sucker repeatedly. Am slightly disturbed by how much fun DH was having with the snot. He kept pulling them out and insisting on delightedly showing me them with a great deal of pride Hmm.

dozy hope Piper is feeding as nicely today as she did yesterday. I am keeping my fingers crossed for you!

Grumpy 2 is a bit of a monster also, she was 3 calendar months last Saturday but has been in 3-6 for a while now. She is tracking the 75th centile, but I haven't had her weighed since 11 weeks (bad Mummy) when she was 13lb so don't know what she is on the scales. When we go to our local NCT meet she looks like she is going to eat the other babies, she is like King Kong baby Shock

YY to comfort sucking. Providing it is not painful then it is all good, reduces stress levels, promotes milk production and induces sleep. What is not to like??

nolonger I finally cracked about 6 months ago and reinstated a lock on the bathroom door (above grumpy 1 head height obvs) so that I can at least poo in peace. Although now I have grumpy 2 that has gone out of the window again unless she is sleeping. It doesn't stop grumpy 1 standing on the other side of the door having a conversation with me though...

siani I did enjoy your farting story. We had a poosplosion on a baby changer in Cafe Nero today that had me in stitches. Every time I wiped her arse more came out and she looked at me and giggled. I think she just loved the feeling of free-pooing. Maybe I should try to start EC with her, she may be a candidate Grin

I'm off to a gig with my Dad tomorrow night (check me, the last of the ravers!!). He takes me along to watch bands at a Welsh language pub near us every now and again - its a great night out. Given that I have a bottle refuser my aim is to give her her bedtime feed as normal at 7pm and then hope that she goes through until 2am like most nights. Failing that DH is on standby with a teaspoon and 5oz of EBM, lucky sod. I think grumpy 1 was about 7 months before DH and I went out together for a night out and we didn't leave her overnight until she was over 1. I am much more relaxed this time around though so suspect grumpy 2 will be left earlier once she is on a cup.

The dwarf is stirring, must go. Have a happy afternoon everyone x

Frolicacid · 03/12/2015 16:50

Good afternoon! I've had a very 1st world problem that has stopped me from posting the past 24 hours - I cut my thumb and it needed a plaster! My poor phone probably enjoyed the rest!

Ds is still a snot monster, but seems much happier in himself today. He has discovered shouting for fun and has been very loud all day. He's had some better naps as well, so things are looking up.

Too much to catch up on as usual!

Sleeping before bedtime - not a problem here as we haven't mastered a set bed time yet!

Comfort sucking - we seem to be having more recently, probably due to the snots. I quite enjoy it and can't see any harm.

Farting - Ds does some whoppers.
He's been farting and pooing non stop for 2 days. I was blaming his cold, but just realised I've also been eating loads of spicy lentil curry the past 2 days. Whoops!

Size / centiles - Ds is about the 40th for weight, but the 80th for height - making him quite long and thin. He's still got plenty of room in 0-3 tops, but the trousers have been too short for a while.

Glad you had a good day yesterday dozy. I hope it's continued today.

Thank you for your dedication to chocolate research giraffes.

I hope the germs don't get you mzzf. They are total fuckers this year.
Great news about the cot nap.

Welcome OMC! How are you? I can't remember if you had a boy or girl? I hope this mum business is being good to you so far? Come and join us.

slow, have you tried the saline spray rather than drops? It's made a nig difference to Ds - seems to get much higher and cleans him out a bit more. The initial spray really upsets him though. I think his snot is all at the back of the throat - nothing was coming out with the sucker slightly disappointing
What band are you seeing tomorrow? There is a great music scene in Wales. I still don't feel ready to go out, but miss going to gigs.

I hope everyone else is ok? Another horrible day here. Where is this cold winter they keep on about? I'd much prefer to be cold than wet.

Grok · 03/12/2015 19:48

Mugabe all! Welcome (back) OMC Wine

DD still sick, def fighting the snot monster. She smears it all over my breast when she feeds! She had been waking every hour from when I put her down at night be ofcoughing or sneezing or wheezing but last night she only did the normal 2.30 and 5 am feeds. Hoping tonight is the same or better - am looking forward to that 2.30am feed being cut out since she only added it back in during her regression.

She sneezes and farts simultaneously. I think it's my favourite sound :)

If she stays down tonight I'll get to decorate the tree! Got some mince pies for the occasion Xmas Smile

Clstow · 03/12/2015 19:54

Hey hey, I've not posted for a couple of days as have been super busy, but have been reading as much as poss.

Happy birthday MzzF, food choices sounded fab and a night away definitely well deserved. Also, great news on the cot nap - I find it's totally hit and miss whether A will settle in his cot in the day but when he does it feels like such a victory. Always intend to use the time to clean but often end up putting my feet up and enjoying a hot coffee for once!

Glad your DS is feeling a bit better Frolic, I've wondered about spicy food affecting their tummies - A hasn't had a poo for a couple of days so maybe I should neck a curry tonight Xmas Wink

Haha Siani, A sighs with satisfaction after a good fart as well, leaves DP and I in stitches. He's not done it publicly yet, but I bet the H&M shoppers were well amused.

Another teeny one here, he's tracking on the 2nd centile still and firmly in 0-3 clothes. In fact I had a bit of a shopping session in Sainsburys earlier as I'm a bit bored of his current outfits. Frolic, Siani and other leggings-lovers I picked up some ace ones with a snowman on the bum - only £3 and as Giraffe said there's 25% off at the mo so total bargain!

Welcome back OMC - grab some chocolate and join us in Mugabe nights later (unless you have a magical sleeping baby).

Have fun at the gig Slow - I ended up spontaneously going to see Guy Garvey (lead singer of Elbow) last night with a friend after they found themselves with a spare ticket. It was a brilliant gig, and it felt so good to be able to just say yes and go without weeks of planning, expressing, etc. Definitely one of the major upsides of replacing the pre-bed feed with formula is that I don't have to be around at bedtime. Had a few drinks but wished I hadn't when A decided to wake up several more times than usual. Felt like crap from about 2am! Hoping it was a one-off, but suspect sleep regression may be here, he'll be four months exactly in 4 days...

Clstow · 03/12/2015 19:55

X-posts Grok - happy tree decorating. Enjoy the mince pies and hope you get a better night.

PerpetualSummer · 03/12/2015 21:39

Sorry, going back a few days.

Lilydreams - that's so sweet to be able to have your nana to hold your DS. Can't believe you moved at 5 days. We moved at 6 weeks and I basically just had the movers put most of the boxes in the loft. I can see them not being unpacked. Lucky my parents were here - that's the only reason the kitchen and our clothes are unpacked!

Magratgarlick - my dd is seeing a physio as she had a preference for looking right so that can lead to flat head on one side. So have been given various exercises to do to stop her leaning to the right. Apparently there head can change shape up to a year. Maybe see if your GP can refer you to a physio?

Kbro - Christmas in Aus - we aren't very traditional, but mostly can be a total cliche I've. Bbq and it's usually always stinking hot so if we aren't at the beach, we would be in the pool.

Mzzf - hope you had a nice birthday! I'm Dec 2! I opted for Thai delivery haha. Enjoy your weekend celebrations and sleep!

Frolic - weaning book, I've been recommended Gina Ford's weaning book and Anabel Karmel for recipes. I am looking to start weaning in Jan when dd is 5 months.

Loving everyone's baby pictures.

mzzzf · 04/12/2015 00:22

OMFG dd was a nightmare to put down at bedtime tonight. A proper
Bloody nightmare!!!! A lovely 2hr scream a thon, joy! Makes me wonder if this is how the 4mth sleep regression is going to affect us, as nighttime sleep isn't exactly through the night anyway. Although she had that lovely week of only waking once per night to feed, ahhh what a magical week that was. We're now back to super whinges, cries and clingy ness all night. She only likes me to settle her (unsurprising) but when DH had her for literally 10mins he then complained that it was so tough, she must need calpol and he's ears really hurt... Hmm To be fair I know he's an issue with his ears but FFS it was only 10mins!! She was just horrendously overtired (missed 4pm nap) and hungry (refused bottle as tired). I really hope she gets the idea of sequencing soon, so that being tired feelings turn into the 'I need to sleep' realisation. I'm well aware this will not happen around the next corner though - would solve many problems if it did eh?!

She's on my shoulder parrot style right now whilst I wait the magic 7 mins for them milk to thicken then she's getting it in her gob Grin

Throat is cranking up to 'ouch' with every swallow so I'll have a heavily laced hot toddy thanks followed by a gluwien chaser Grin

Grok · 04/12/2015 00:26

Wow, the August thread was the lowest I've ever seen it on the post natal threads - usually we're the chattiest bunch!

DD went down normal time but woke up as soon as I finished decorating the tree. We decided DH would give her a bottle just to see if we could fill her up and maybe skip the 2am feeding. Only she refused the bottle, which she's never done. So she woke herself right up with all of her protesting and I'm BFing her anyway!mi might as well go unlock Mugabe Nughts and get the DJ started. I'm pouring some wine at the bar if anyone wants a glass before the bar gets busy! I brought mince pies...

Lilydreams · 04/12/2015 03:20

I shall join you at the bar Mzzf and grok!

Missed a day of posting and the war on snot has arrived here now too- mainly me but he is defo joining in slowly- so I'm gonna keep replies brief! Mzzf DS is a la parrot at the mo- just finished feed but is massively unsettled and coughing his little head off bless him.

Omc- welcome back- I've been reading the ante natal thread back and wondered where you had got to!

Trees going up is exciting! Thinking Sunday for ours.

Perpetual- we had lots of help moving too- our clothes loved in a giant pile in the corner of our bedroom for about a month till we bought wardrobes! Drove me sodding crazy! I've a friend who still has unpacked boxes after 7 years!

Quite bizarre that I've got a cold this week as had one this exact time last year. I was gobbling down the night nurse like sweets and read the packet which said they could give you a false positive on pg test so when I got my faint bfp exactly a year ago on Saturday I didn't believe it till it was stronger 2 days and 6 tests later!! What a difference a year makes- aside from the cold which is exactly the same!! Hmm

Oh god I've put DS back in his Moses and am hand/ face holding- he doesn't want to sleep Sad another glass of wine and 2 mince pies please grok- I don't even like them but needs must!!

Fanby · 04/12/2015 07:48

Mugabe!!!! Errr missed the drinks last night as I SLEPT IN THE SPARE ROOM ALLLL NIGHT. Yes sireeee!
Went out with my NCT girls and got in at 1am. Apparently she woke at 3 and 4am, thank small mercies for ear plugs. DH got up and she had another 7oz of Ebm. Obviously he is the most tired man ever today from this Hmm. I on the other seem to have no hangover so feel like I'm WINNING!

Sorry to those who are snot bags xxx

FattyNinjaOwl · 04/12/2015 07:59

fanby you lucky bugger.
I was up most if the night. DS didn't want to be put down. And he wouldn't let me lie down with him so couldn't even co-sleep for the night. I just had to sit or walk depending on how he felt minute to minute.

So yeah, that heap in the corner that mzzzf grok and lily chucked their coats on, that's me.

Fanby · 04/12/2015 08:16

Sorry fatty Blush sounds awful. I send you a bumper pack of buenos and a vat of coffee. Any chance of a rest day today? - I always laugh when people tell me that and you've got more than one to deal with!!!

FattyNinjaOwl · 04/12/2015 08:22

I've got DP staying tonight so he will be having them, whether he likes it or not!

rrra · 04/12/2015 08:34

Fatty, I was with you under the coats. We have completed night 5 of a single 2 hour stretch, followed by hourly wakings. DS is 13 weeks. Is this a growth spurt? HV seemed to think he was comfort sucking and I should try and settle him without boob. Well, I can't!! And he isn't always really hungry, but always has at least the initial let down. She did tell me to only feed him every three hours at night, but then discovered he'd dropped a centile from 75th to 50th. So not sure limiting feeds is actually a good idea. He just shouts until he gets boob in his mouth. Not the dummy, not rocking or walking.

He is still on antibiotics for a chest infection, so I'm hoping against hope he'll get back to a more normal pattern after his last dose tomorrow. I was thinking a 3 hour stretch wasn't good enough a couple of weeks ago, what I wouldn't give for that now!!!

fanby I'm so jealous. I must admit to plotting all sort of things for when my H is back home tonight. He is going to have to share the burden on this, especially if things don't get better after antibiotics.

Supposed to be going to works Xmas party next week, but so don't fancy it if I'm just going to be woken hourly once home.

rrra · 04/12/2015 08:38

Oh dear, just looked back on my sleep tracker app and DS is actually sleeping worse now than when he was first born [sob]!!

Dozygirl · 04/12/2015 08:51

Hope ur not feeling too ill mzzf for your night away.

I'm sure I read it's been someone else birthday but can't find it now. Happy birthday anyway.

Fanby lucky u. And yey to no hangover.

Dd had another fab day of feeding. These nipple shields do cause a bit of friction pain but I can cope with tha . Even managed to feed her out at lunch with some friends with no fuss so that was good. All seems back to normal again.

OP posts:
FattyNinjaOwl · 04/12/2015 08:55

rrra I did wonder who's elbow was in my ribs.
Hope your DS gets better soon. It's horrible seeing them ill. I remember when DS1 had a chest infection. It was awful. Then straight after that he got chicken pox. He was 8 weeks old.
