Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
saltasaltasanta · 16/01/2011 09:45

I'm hardly ever without children so this is quite an odd feeling. Nice if I'm honest.

But think of me please, I have a piece of work that I am avoiding, is already overdue and I need to finish today.

DD plays so nicely on her own. DS never did like this.

DH is a saint I think. He usually gets up with the kids. On the other hand he will let them back in to bother me in bed so it often doesn't include a lot more sleep.

saltasaltasanta · 16/01/2011 09:46

hello Hippy!

HippyHippopotamus · 16/01/2011 09:52

hello Smile

HippyHippopotamus · 16/01/2011 10:47

little question for you.... if a friend of yours had a young baby (same age as P) and she'd moved him into his own room already, would you say anything? she's made other decisions different from mine eg walkers etc but i'm a bit worried that he's in a room by himself already..

CrispyTheCrisp · 16/01/2011 11:12

Hips my DD's both went into their own rooms by about 8 weeks IIRC. As long as she knows that the risk of SIDs may be higher and has made an informed choice, then i think i would let her get on with it. I was not aware of the risk BTW with DD1 but was with DD2 and did the same. I also reused cot mattresses from my niece for both girls with knowledge of the research.

salta i hope you manage to get your work completed asap and then get to have some free time to enjoy without the work looming over you

My children have very odd tastes - DD1 ate a whole grapefruit for breakfast whilst DD2 munched on black pudding and egg HmmGrin

SilkStalkings · 16/01/2011 11:33

Hips Hold your tongue or she might bite it off! It's kind of like scolding for not BFing - it could easily be an informed decision. My DD (FF) was in her own room at 2wks, DS1 (FF) only later because he had reflux and slept in a carseat/bouncy chair in our room. DS2 only coslept til BFing was down to 2 feeds a night (about 3 or 4mm) and then went in his own room. Bear in mind we don't have baby monitors either and reuse mattresses. Sleep is rated very highly in this house and I am not one to worry about things that could still happen no matter what efforts you make to reduce probability.

News here, DD got her 5m swimming badge yesterday! Has taken a year but I am so proud of her. DS1 could have done it but was 'not in the mood'Hmm.

Merlion · 16/01/2011 11:48

Hips with Silks and Crispy I wouldn't say anything.

Salta am pretty sure it's nothing to do with you and glad you are getting some you time. Hope DH's work situation improves soon too.

Silks congrats to DD on the swimming.

Loti hope there is no more fainting today and that you get some answers and treatment tomorrow.

Pert DS told me last night that he had a baby in his tummy too like Mummy. He has a brother though and I have a sister Grin.

Am a bit Angry or maybe Shock with my Mum as when we were on skype yesterday my Dad told me she'd been and bought some baby clothes in the sale - dresses no less. So that when we hopefully find out on Tuesday she can either keep them or take them back. Tbh at the moment I'm a bit more concerned that the baby is ok.

FjorgynAndHotWater · 16/01/2011 11:48

Another one here saying say nowt hippy Smile

Sorry to hear some of the DHs not being too good re lie-ins. I had a lovely one this morning and was woken with a cuppa and children bouncing on the bed at 9.45am . DH's marriage proposal was really rubbish though so he's far from not quite perfect.

Silky yay for DD's swimming badge Smile

We were planning to go for a walk in a bit round a local lake / woods combo but the sky is getting v dark and think it may piss down in a minute . The DC have watched 3 films since about 4pm yesterday Blush so we may have to think of something else to do.

salta good luck with your work today*

crispy wotcha Smile

Oh, you Imelda May fans, she was on Craig Charles' Funk & Soul show on 6 Music last night. Her music is not really my cup of tea (how old does that make me sound???) but she seemed very nice when he was chatting to her, I'd definitely recommend a listen-again on the iplayer

HippyHippopotamus · 16/01/2011 11:51

thought those are the replies i'd get, thanks girls. i will indeed refrain from saying anything
oh and she's not BFing and i won't say anything about that either Wink

well done to miss silks! great news! mstr silks1 makes me smile!

black pudding? eurgh!!

FjorgynAndHotWater · 16/01/2011 11:51

Hey merlion Smile not long to wait now for the next scan. No wonder you are a bit Hmm at your mum, but baby girl clothes are soooo cute compared to baby boy ones, I'm sure she just couldn't resist.

HippyHippopotamus · 16/01/2011 11:53

merlion, i'd be Angry if i were you

yo yo yo fyrorggtyn Grin

HippyHippopotamus · 16/01/2011 11:55

oh and dh just got woken by ds jumping on the bed shouting 'wakey wakey'. and i then delivered a cup of tea. worked a treat and he's in a really good helpful mood now Grin

FjorgynAndHotWater · 16/01/2011 12:14

Hope you are off for a nap now then hippy Smile

CaptainCaveman · 16/01/2011 13:03

Hello gang, we were up at 7 as dh was away at a friends last night, out on the piss Hmm and returned home about 1hr ago. I might make him buy a tumble dryer for me as pennance Wink

hippy good choice re not saying anything to friend. Ds1 was in his own room from 10 days - he was just too noisy and it was like trying to sleep in a zoo!

Dh proposed in Paris, in front of No tre Da me, he stopped me and said "CC, marry me?". I made him go down on one knee and ask properly Grin

Merlion · 16/01/2011 13:08

DH proposed in Dublin we then had to stay an extra night as the airport was closed because of the snow Wink

Fjorn I know - I can't now believe I managed to wait till DS was born to find out.

FjorgynAndHotWater · 16/01/2011 13:59

Well that was a bit of a disaster Hmm

Got to the car park and it was full so we decided to try another lake / nature reserve nearby. As we left the car park the heavens opened (so I guess we saved £2 on parking...) then we set off in the direction we thought the other place was, ended up near Barnsley Shock both DC fell asleep in the car then we ended up back at home still with no idea how to get to the other place. Still raining so we are going to have hot chocolate with marshmellows instead.

CaptainCaveman · 16/01/2011 14:18

that's a shame fjorgyn, but Smile to marshmallows and hot choc.

We're off swimming in an hour whilst dh makes tea (and watches football). Should be fun with a tired out ds2 Hmm

FjorgynAndHotWater · 16/01/2011 14:23

Was v yum Smile shame the DC were far more interested in the marshmellows, then DS decided to pour the last inch of his hot choc all over the table Hmm it went everywhere...

Enjoy swimming cece, am too chicken to take mine when it's likely to be really busy Blush

RedLentil · 16/01/2011 15:12

I'm facing into a walk with the lads here. Dh is working and I've already done a 90 minute stomp around the village for Tidy Towns. Still, whatever distracts dd1 from the screaming fits she's taken up since mid-week. 4.5 is a tricky age. Confused

My other job today is to save all dh's computer files to dropbox after his computer did a 'blue screen of death' thing last night and scared him half to death at what wasn't saved. It's v. handy to be able to get to files without carrying them round on a memory stick or emailing them. Sorry, this is my new tech discovery and I'm temporarily evangelical about it. Blush

If I don't come back on here tonight saying I've finished that marketing plan, would someone tell me off? I have to, have to, have to get on top of everything that's on my desk before teaching starts at the end of the month and dh is working all day every day, including weekends for the next 3 weeks. Either that or you could import a grandparent for me to foist the kids onto ... Grin

RedLentil · 16/01/2011 15:19

Oh flip. If I go out I'll miss Cowen stepping down. Confused Still, these press conferences usually run about three hours late so I might get away with it.

If any of you want one of those dropbox accounts btw, let me know and I'll email you one of those referral link thingamijiggys (Dd2's new word).

I'm going to have to stop and buy marshmallows on the way home now aren't I? If a hotmama asks me I'll blame the unspellable one. Grin

FjorgynAndHotWater · 16/01/2011 15:44

Oh lordy we have strayed v far from the HotMama path this afternoon Blush, since the hot chocolate we have made raspberry and white choc muffins! It was DS' first go at baking, which is shaming for me, he did a good job with DD helping and they are rising nicely in the oven now.

Red at least you have a good walk under your belt to excuse any marshmellow-related scoffage. We made it to the co-op which is about 200 metres away...

FjorgynAndHotWater · 16/01/2011 15:48

On a cute note though, DS calls raspberries (and blueberries) bungleberries Grin

Is anyone else's DC still talking about Father Christmas? I was singing along to the radio earlier and there was a bit of 'ho ho ho' in it, he was convinced I was pretending to be FC. Don't think he's quite grasped the fact that he won't be back for another 11 months...

PertyPru · 16/01/2011 15:59

Aw, Fjorgyn I love bungleberries Grin (Especially in cake, yum yum Wink)

Star DD really took the move in her stride - a much bigger deal to move cities though, I know. The one thing I would say for your sake though is if you can possibly, possibly manage it, get professional movers and get them to pack. They will do it in one day - from chaos (in our case anyway) to boxes in less than six hours, whereas it would take you days and you'd be constantly keeping him out of boxes etc. It was a lot less £ than we expected and SO worth it. They were good about leaving her stuff til last/unpacking it first, too.

Discovered a good new soft play session this am at a local gym. Proper trampoline etc as well as the usual cage/slide/ball pit combo. I was apprehensive re DD's behaviour (this is normal, right? Sad) but she was v good Smile

PertyPru · 16/01/2011 16:05

Oh I forgot to say congratulations Ursula! What fantastic news, so pleased for you Smile Smile Smile

luckoftheirish · 16/01/2011 16:36

Shoot me now Angry why on earth did I think family day was gonna be nice?

V v v grumpy dh refused the dinner I cooked (took me all morning to prepare) as it was too early for him to eat it and has been a pita all day.

Dds are fighting like cats and dogs or crying and I'm running around like a blue arsed fly trying to feed/entertain them arghhhhhh

and rant over .....

Fjor you day sounds quite nice IMO!

Pert glad dd enjoyed the soft play

good luck with the swimming cece at least the boys will be shattered!

Red marshmallows are def recommended after all that running about! Hope you manage to get your work up to date!

Salta hope you are getting some child free time to get your work done!
