Labour MPs are already mobilising against Starmer

Before the first results came in, some senior Labour MPs are briefing that Starmer has got to go.

Ed Milliband seems more than happy to have his name out there as being at the forefront of any coup.

Looks like Ed Milliband is goading Starmer to sack him. If he is sacked then he immediately becomes a frontrunner to replace him. If he isn't, then Starmer looks too weak to carry on as PM.

Keir Starmer urged to plan resignation to avert Labour war

Ed Miliband, keen to avoid internal conflict should dire election results trigger leadership challenges, is understood to have had private words

Thing is, if you believe The Times they have been doing this for some time.

I am not convinced it'll extend beyond briefings out.

But I do think Starmer will be weakened and essentially a lame duck PM.

Willowskyblue · 07/05/2026 22:41

Oh god, this is unbearable. As if the country isn’t in enough shit already.

cantgardenintherain · 07/05/2026 22:49

Good

BIossomtoes · 07/05/2026 23:09

Oh God, not you again. 🙄

ProudAmberTurtle · 08/05/2026 06:07

Just turned on the radio to hear suspended Labour MP Karl Turner say that Starmer's name came up on every single doorstep.

Then turned on the TV to see David Lammy say Starmer's name does not come up on the doorstep.

🤔

I’ve been labour all my life but Starmer has been a disaster. He needs to go.

kirinm · 08/05/2026 08:14

The media have been gunning for a leader coup for ages. The psychodrama sells papers but it’s just terrible for the country. Labour MPs are stupid to think it’ll improve for them and are falling into a trap.

1dayatatime · 08/05/2026 09:56

There was an interesting study recently of the difference between what the Labour Party wants and what the public wants.

Amongst Labour Party members, the most popular minister is Ed Milliband and the least popular is Shabana Mahmood.

Amongst ordinary voters the most popular Labour Minister is Shabana Mahmood and the least popular is Ed Milliband.

ProudAmberTurtle · 08/05/2026 12:31

One after the other now seem to be coming out publicly calling for Starmer to resign

Jon Trickett clearly in the fuck-off Keir camp.

SpidersAreShitheads · 08/05/2026 14:42

I know why the anti-Keir MPs want him gone.

But I’m curious why the public want him gone. Do they think a new leader will suddenly come up with more money? Or new policies? Nothing will change for the electorate.

It’s just stupid. The world is a shitshow right now and the last thing we need is more instability. Keir has done a pretty good job handling the orange toddler over the ocean, and that is pretty important.

Because the public thinks "if Starmer is replaced then well his replacement can't be any worse ".

Invariably they are always wrong and the next person is always worse.

JohnnyMcGrathSaysFuckOff · 08/05/2026 16:43

Louise Haigh calling for him to go, according to Times Radio just now.

Oh the irony... I mean I do not like Starmer but at least he is not a mobile phone thief.

MeetMeOnTheCorner · 08/05/2026 17:51

Not very many! They will find it very difficult and no high profile cabinet minister wants the job - just yet. Would The King of Manchester even get a seat he can win? It’s hugely difficult to unseat a Labour PM. Only Blair has gone. They also risk even more ire if they depose Starmer. Often the devil you know etc!

Lol at the King of Manchester 😂😂😂

Lammysaurus · 09/05/2026 05:39

Former Labour Leader who famously lost a national election that polls predicted he'd win seeks to replace current Labour Leader who won a national election because ... [checks notes] .... Labour lost seats in a local election?

The public REALLY needs to get a clue about how transparently and ridiculously manipulative the UK press is. At least make them work to come up with a coherent narrative before swallowing it like quaaludes.

RedRiverShore6 · 09/05/2026 05:56

Hasn't the King of Manchester already had a go once and lost and iirc was not a very good MP anyway.

Yep. And I thought people had had enough of Oxbridge educated SPADS!

MsJinks · 09/05/2026 06:04

Last thing we need right now is a leadership election fgs - the international stage is so very tricky right now and actually Keir polls well on this.

We don’t anyway need a change - it’s disruptive and achieves nothing. The media are whipping it up so guess they love encouraging our country to get weaker, waste time and money, but guess they make it so that’s ok then. Let someone just run the country for a bit - maybe he’s not the best at everything, but we seriously don’t need chaos like this all the time.

I am more left leaning but didn’t want May to go - wanted her to continue to keep our country stable. Boris I guess had to go and I wish they’d gone straight for Rishi to get some stability back - hoped Labour wouldn’t have all this.

Everyone seems to think it’s just another Live Island but participants are just running the country for it, not flirting on a nice island. This is everyone’s country and we need it managing and stability helps that.

MsJinks · 09/05/2026 06:05

Love Island - won’t let me edit!

Radio 5 reporting 20 MPs are calling for a new leader. Out of over 400. It’s not a crescendo and it’s the usual suspects on the left!

Do you understand what ‘crescendo’ means? It means ‘growing’

TalkToTheHand123 · 09/05/2026 09:31

Those wanting him gone should go crawl back under their rock and wind their necks in. I'm not much of a Starter fan but give him a lot of credit for his ability to hang on and find it also quite funny.

MelanzaneParmigiana · 09/05/2026 12:16

I initially wanted him gone because of the stones of what he had done to the country, but actually bc seeing what s complete liability he is to their electoral chances /I now want him to stay and see the Labour Party completely disintegrate 🍿🍿
