Labour MPs are already mobilising against Starmer

ProudAmberTurtle · 07/05/2026 22:37

Before the first results came in, some senior Labour MPs are briefing that Starmer has got to go.

Ed Milliband seems more than happy to have his name out there as being at the forefront of any coup.

Looks like Ed Milliband is goading Starmer to sack him. If he is sacked then he immediately becomes a frontrunner to replace him. If he isn't, then Starmer looks too weak to carry on as PM.

Keir Starmer urged to plan resignation to avert Labour war

Ed Miliband, keen to avoid internal conflict should dire election results trigger leadership challenges, is understood to have had private words

‘Walking away' as if he's honour bound…

Hilarious.

He would crawl over broken glass to cling to power.

Shameless little shit.

@JohnnyMcGrathSaysFuckOff Yes. I’ve now seen that elsewhere! Not sure it’s ever been used though. Blair, as sitting pm just went. I cannot see the point in changing round the deckchairs on the Titanic though. Anyone else will face Reform big time if taxes are increased. Lsbour thinks the well off earn £50,000 but forget the cost of housing. Many people earning that like teachers and police earn that and getting even more from them will be a death sentence. Labour just want to spend more and more and tax and borrow more and more without addressing the issues that underlie our issues.

However there’s many they cannot address. Trump and his war. The huge cost of increasing defence. The continued vast increases in NHS/benefits costs - the holy cow of Labour politicians! Any left leaning leader will bleed everyone dry and we see where that gets us. Stagnation because no one spends anything and employers lay people off! None of this is palatable. No new leader will change anything much. They just might be a bit better at speaking. Oh wait a minute! We tried that with BoJo. A resounding failure. Or we could have the hugely self important Nigel? This is the level we have sunk to. Personality over substance. The uk electorate are nuts.

@MeetMeOnTheCorner have you seen, Times now reporting more than 70 have come out publicly against Starmer.

I honestly thought it would be, like 20/25 max and peter out.

But I now think maybe Catherine West has effectively pushed him out 😬

SquirrelSoShiny · 11/05/2026 20:56

SpidersAreShitheads · 08/05/2026 14:42

I know why the anti-Keir MPs want him gone.

But I’m curious why the public want him gone. Do they think a new leader will suddenly come up with more money? Or new policies? Nothing will change for the electorate.

It’s just stupid. The world is a shitshow right now and the last thing we need is more instability. Keir has done a pretty good job handling the orange toddler over the ocean, and that is pretty important.

I agree. I really don't think people understand how much more shit we can be in. They lack the imagination.

TeenagersAngst · 11/05/2026 21:08

I never thought I’d say this but I almost feel sorry for Starmer.

I don’t.

He brought this upon himself - he owns it.

Let Reeves follow him out.

I think he's just out of his depth, has been from the start really.

I certainly won't shed any tears if Reeves goes, she doesn't get any of my sympathy. As long as the bond markets don't throw a hissy fit at whomever comes next.

It also didn’t help that he put a lot into taking out previous PMs and positioning himself as he did, with hypocrisy. It’s come back round now.

TeenagersAngst · 11/05/2026 21:08

I never thought I’d say this but I almost feel sorry for Starmer.

I feel sorry for the Labour Party making the same electoral mistakes as the Tories in changing their leadership. They are basically handing the 2029 election to a Reform / Conservative coalition.

And I feel sorry for the economy and the country in that the uncertainty created by a new leadership will lead to higher bond rates.

Spotty1964 · 12/05/2026 01:21

Will never vote EVER again if this man is hounded out. The man should call their bluff and call an election.

Spotty1964 · 12/05/2026 01:23

Labour MP s not even giving Starmer a chance. Go on Keir, resign call an election watch them all panic. Treacherous nobody's

Gilt volatility will be a price worth paying.

Starmer’s or Reeves’ successor will ultimately be compelled to address the welfare budget, whether the back benches like it or not.

Agree re a GE - but not for the reasons you have given.

Borrowing is already more expensive than under Truss. Has been for some time now.

mellongoose · 12/05/2026 04:42

Agree there will be a GE. The Labour Party is so divided that any new PM be unable to govern.

I predict an autumn 26 or spring 27 election.

No government with a stonking majority gives up a second before it has to. May 2029 is my guess.

How have your predictive powers served you recently?

Not well.

Until Trumps war on Iran, 10year gilts were on par with levels under Sunak.

Truss, uniquely, trebled yields, perhaps she thought that was a good thing? her grasp on economics isn't strong.

One could say the same about others, ahem…

Yes, this is true. By her own social media standards (calling for Tories to resign when debt interest reached a certain level), Reeves should actually be long gone by now.

Never happen (or wishful thinking on your part) if polling is correct, Lab MPs aren't going to vote to shorten their careers and nice salaries.

Labour are fucking idiots if they think binning Starmer now is a good thing, Labours problem is a failure to deliver their manifesto promises, a new Leader doesn't solve that.
