Labour MPs are already mobilising against Starmer

Before the first results came in, some senior Labour MPs are briefing that Starmer has got to go.

Ed Milliband seems more than happy to have his name out there as being at the forefront of any coup.

Looks like Ed Milliband is goading Starmer to sack him. If he is sacked then he immediately becomes a frontrunner to replace him. If he isn't, then Starmer looks too weak to carry on as PM.

We already know you don't care about the UK.

How do you deduce that?

Please, spell it out clearly.

Hallowedturf · 12/05/2026 06:56

One of Sir Keir Starmer’s remaining loyalists has claimed a general election “will be needed” if Labour MPs oust the Prime Minister.

Alison Taylor, the Labour MP for Paisley and Renfrewshire North, claimed Sir Keir had a personal mandate following his landslide general election victory in 2024.

She said on X: “A general election will be needed, if we carry on any further with this. Mark my words, it will be a general election next. The public elected Keir Starmer.”

I would be careful making guesses which are
pro Labour in this environment.

Just stop trying to bait me. It’s extremely tedious. Just pretend I don’t exist.

No bating here.

You are a prolific poster - it’s difficult for our paths not to cross. And if I see something I profoundly disagree with, I will respond.

There won’t be a GE because Labour know they would lose.

By all means do. Just cut out the personal comments like the one about my predictive skills.

That’s why most incumbent governments don’t call premature elections.

Well precisely. We'd have a hung Parliament going by current polling and more chaos. Who wants that?

Louise Haigh calling for him to go, according to Times Radio just now.

Oh the irony... I mean I do not like Starmer but at least he is not a mobile phone thief.

Exactly- it’s the anti Starmer MPs within that is going a lot of the damage but they aren’t actually any better.

Define ‘chaos’ please - sounds like a Starmer threat.

MeetMeOnTheCorner · 12/05/2026 08:47

Looking at Newsnight on bbc 2 last night, we clearly have newly arrived MPs who are lacking between the ears. The awful moment last night was when the new mp could not answer what might happen to the finance markets and bond market if this chaos continues and Starmer is forced out. He utterly dodged the question and bleated on about doorstep angst. It totally exposes the absolute low level of MPs we have. No recognition whatsoever about what these decisions do to people’s pensions and the fact that most people he doorsteps are economically illiterate. The mp simply didn’t care. This is the state of our politics and politicians. Stunning ignorance and not caring about the majority. Just the 33% who might vote for them!

Peoplesfrontofjudea2000 · 12/05/2026 08:52

There’s no such thing as a managed exit, if he is leaving then he has no power and no decisions can be made. We haven’t got the time to be in limbo. The media have been gunning for this almost since he came into office. I’m not denying he’s been a disappointment but he had inherited a mess and wasn’t easily fixable

Alexandra2001 · 12/05/2026 08:53

FTSE down, Gilts up, hours away from new bombing of Iran, oil prices up.

Kings Speech tomo.

Labour MPs will not be forgiven for trying to bin off Starmer... i hope he stays, otherwise Reform win.

Starmer was voted in as PM less than 2 years ago, for a 5 year term..... he should be given the time to fix the mess he inherited but he also needs to stop being so wishy washy and make decisions ie Lead!

Gilts are not up - they are down.

Gilt yields are up.

Its very self explanatory what gilts up means in the context of my post.....

thought we all had some basic knowledge, obviously not.

I would define it as what you are agitating for.

I am not agitating - keen to understand what you mean as ‘chaos’.

It merely reads like one of Starmer’s.

No, it really does not.

It wont be the first time, either.

Agree there will be a GE. The Labour Party is so divided that any new PM be unable to govern.

I predict an autumn 26 or spring 27 election.

I stand by this. The party is collapsing in on itself. A new PM needs to command a majority in the Commons, I’m sorry, I don’t think anyone can unite the Labour back benches.

Spotty1964 · 12/05/2026 12:00

My argument is a simple one but fair. We've had 14 years of Tory rule. They f**d up a lot, so all I'm saying is give him a term to see if he can turn things around. Do people REALLY think or EXPECT things to change in 2 years. REALLY ! ?

I'd expect a party that campaigned on a growth manifesto not to hobble business at the knees the moment that they are in office.

Yes i do understand this, however, Reeves had to fund pre agreed (by the Tories) public sector pay rises, compensation scandals (£12 billion) a collapsed prison system, additional NHS funding, roads, and Hunts NI cuts - £11billion PER YEAR!

So if not business NI increases, where would Reeves get this money from? bearing in mind these are current spending... not something that could be put off and no, cutting Welfare, whilst arguable, wouldn't get the money or quickly enough.

Would the electorate have preferred 5p on income tax? get rid of triple lock? slash NHS spending?

..and before someone says "shouldn't have paid the train drivers/junior Dr's" these pay rises in total come to £1.6billion.... doesn't touch the sides.

Upstartled · 12/05/2026 12:55

Gosh, we were going to grow, grow, grow. A billion jobs in the green sector, red tape shredded so businesses could thrive, 1.5 million houses to be built. Starmer wasn't going to pull the tax lever.

Even if I agreed on the assessment of the state of things at handover and that they were obliged to throw money at doctors and train unions, £12 billion is pocket change compared to the money she has borrowed to paper up her mistakes since.

Bulldog01 · 12/05/2026 13:02

I am very keen on him going, but the thought of Ed Milliband taking his place, would be horrendous!

I appreciate that Labour have inherited a mess!

He has had in my opinion, enough time to place the UK onto the right tracks.

1,Ever increasing taxes, national insurance.
2,Energy bills,Cost of food & living.
3,Escalating rents,
4,Strikes,
5,Unemployment,
6,Knife crime,
7,Releasing prisoners early,
8,Political unrest,
9,Illegal migrants.
10,people sleeping rough.

Meanwhile,he jets off to other countries, rubbing shoulders with Europe,China.

While we are left to endure the choices, that he has made.

Personally, I think he is arrogant man,who has made numerous poor decisions.

You only need to look at his cabinet, who look like they have been muted.

I really don't think he is capable of leading us out of this shambolic mess!
