Labour MPs are already mobilising against Starmer

Before the first results came in, some senior Labour MPs are briefing that Starmer has got to go.

Ed Milliband seems more than happy to have his name out there as being at the forefront of any coup.

Looks like Ed Milliband is goading Starmer to sack him. If he is sacked then he immediately becomes a frontrunner to replace him. If he isn't, then Starmer looks too weak to carry on as PM.

Keir Starmer urged to plan resignation to avert Labour war

Ed Miliband, keen to avoid internal conflict should dire election results trigger leadership challenges, is understood to have had private words

I think the Labour MP’s will need time for Burnham to become an MP.

What does it matter if Starmer goes or stays?

His successor won’t know how to grow the economy
Won’t cut state spending
Won’t stop the boats
Won’t offend its Muslim client group
Won’t stand up for working people against “progressive” crap.
Labour is the problem.

Because 14 years of the Tories was Nirvana?

I am genuinely amazed and aghast at Ed Miliband not only still in office but now mentioned as a possible front runner as leader?? What on earth? The guy comes across as a complete drip and nasal wet weekend. There's not an ounce of leadership in the man. C'mon this is ridiculous.

What's with the fascination of bringing these clinger-ons back from 20 years ago? I reckon the power trip must go to their heads and they can't cope without it

Edited

Because Ed Milliband is incredibly popular within the Labour Party itself.

I read a very interesting survey that showed the most popular Labour Minister amongst Labour Party members was Ed Milliband and the least popular was Shabana Mahmood.

Amongst ordinary voters the most popular Labour Minister was Shabana Mahmood and the least popular was Ed Milliband.

What the Labour Party wants is completely opposite to what the voters want.

That makes complete sense. The current LP are inward looking and out for themselves.

BIossomtoes · 10/05/2026 10:25

That depends, doesn’t it? West is going to look very foolish tomorrow morning if she hasn’t got the necessary numbers and the rest of the party politely ignores her.

Yup

AbundantFlowers · 10/05/2026 22:18

I’d rather Ange than Catherine

100% Shaky.

Is he really the best they have? At least his brother has actually achieved something with his life. Instead, we are left with the runt of the litter - who’s a net zero nutter during an energy crisis….

The electorate vote emphatically for ‘less’ socialism.

What does our Ange do? Tells Starmer to tack left. Tone deaf.

Labour deserve to be out for a multiple of 14 years - make that forever…

Meanwhile, we have Starmer’s asinine reset speech to look forward to later….

Happy Monday, everyone.

Universe25 · 11/05/2026 05:22

Ed Millliband the guy who shafted his own brother? Good god! I hope not!!!

Now David Milliband? Maybe! Unfortunately for us, he’s now a CEO of a charity in America I believe.

MeetMeOnTheCorner · 11/05/2026 08:43

Well the idiot trades unions put Ed M in the job once before! Surely not again? Everyone needs to think about who can win votes. It might be Angela in the Green areas but many old Labour areas are Reform leaning. Would she appeal to them? Probably not.

CurlewKate · 11/05/2026 09:06

The worst possible outcome of course is Burnham being offered a by election and losing it…….

JohnnyMcGrathSaysFuckOff · 11/05/2026 09:18

MeetMeOnTheCorner · 10/05/2026 21:12

@JohnnyMcGrathSaysFuckOff What threshold? Not sure the Labour Party has a published number for revolting MPs to trigger anything. Blair was persuaded to go. Starmer will be persuaded to come up with an exit strategy but of course instability makes Labour look like the Tories. Getting rid of the PM is never a good look and there’s no great successor lined up! One isn’t even an mp. Who might not find a safe seat when he wants one either!

I'm not a Labour member but I understood the bar was 81 MPs backing a challenger?

The worst for whom? Not Streeting.

JohnnyMcGrathSaysFuckOff · 11/05/2026 09:21

@MeetMeOnTheCorner yes I was right, see here - https://www.theguardian.com/politics/2026/may/10/how-labour-remove-keir-starmer-four-routes-replace-leader-mps

It's 20% of PLP which would be 81 as things stand.

This morning, Lord Glasman has also called for him to stand down, and (quelle surprise) Diane Abbott, although obviously she doesn't have the whip right now.

How could Labour remove Keir Starmer? Four possible routes

Replacing a leader is difficult, as Jeremy Corbyn proved – but MPs can apply pressure, publicly or privately

ProudAmberTurtle · 11/05/2026 10:04

The seat being lined up for Andy Burnham is no longer safe and there's a good chance he won't win it.

Also, Labour did atrociously in Manchester last week

There was an interesting study recently of the difference between what the Labour Party wants and what the public wants.

Amongst Labour Party members, the most popular minister is Ed Milliband and the least popular is Shabana Mahmood.

Amongst ordinary voters the most popular Labour Minister is Shabana Mahmood and the least popular is Ed Milliband.

This is very true. Miliband is seen as costing people more in fuel and Mahmood wants to curb immigration.

Surely an energy crisis just makes it more obvious we need to move away from fossil fuels?

ProudAmberTurtle · 11/05/2026 10:18

Not entirely convinced this speech he's doing is helping.

Do his advisors hate him?

WTF?

Starmer just said he's going to nationalise British Steel.

He's now a trade union leader from 1975

It’s called the energy mix for a reason. You don’t rule out hydrocarbons.

A Labour MP has become the first to call for Starmer to resign since he made his speech

https://x.com/PolitlcsUK/status/2053777260847542656

Interesting.

ProudAmberTurtle · 11/05/2026 11:45

The BBC is reporting that the speech has not gone down well.

All eyes are on Catherine West now.
