What will labour do re: trans

I've seen some really scary stuff with Keir starmer not knowing what a woman is and an article saying they class not "affirming" someone's gender identity as conversation therapy.

This topic is extremely important (if not the most) to me right now and I'm wondering if anyone knows what they plan to do? I also saw something about them disregarding much of what was in the Cass report.

Great, they will be able to use third spaces.

And the list? What list

I was heading off a frequent question from a pp who thinks politicians need to make a list of single sex spaces to police them properly if we don't have a blanket ban on trans people in any form of opposite sex settings, including social groups like the WI.

It is very boring.

I think its entirely possible she doesn't care how "stupid people" vote

This shaming people because its their fault we got brexit, because people can't own their own democratic choices has stopped working imo.

If someone wants to go and vote for a misogynist dictator because "at least he knows what a woman is" they can knock themselves out. I'm not trying to persuade them otherwise.

That poster did "own" their choice.

It's how democracy works.
We all get to vote, we vote who we like or the best of a terrible bunch. Its allegedly secret anyway. They could be lying or telling the truth, you'll not get to know either way.

And here you are denigrating others choice of who to vote for.

Your telling off the wrong people, go tell the parties running that they are supposed to win our vote with policies that we like and can vote for.

It's hardly the peoples fault that no party is good enough to choose to vote for.

CorvusPurpureus · 22/06/2024 13:52

I don't find women's rights 'boring'.

We got our postal vote through today. I spoke to my husband about this and we've both just voted Reform because they seem the only party who gave a sensible opinion about this area.

I usually vote Labour so this is a massive change for us.

You mean like charging women more to use the NHS?

Reform UK puts issues and arguments around gender on the first page of its “contract" of policy proposals. It talks about “divisive 'woke' ideology”, claiming it has captured public institutions.

Within the first 100 days of government, it pledges to ban what it calls “transgender ideology” in primary and secondary schools. It says this would mean no gender questioning, social transitioning or pronoun swapping in schools, and that parents would be informed about children’s life decisions.

Reform UK also promises to replace the Equality Act and says it would scrap diversity, equality and inclusion rules.

WTAF does this mean for women's rights? Nevermind the rights of all vulnerable people in the UK?

Can someone explain to me why they would vote for this if they support women's rights.

Hows that denigrating anyone for the choices they make (out of terrible options) going for you.

Heres an idea, if you want people to vote "the correct way" maybe dont call them stupid.

Come on. Anyone who says their number 1 issue is women and girls but in the next breath says they are voting Reform needs, at the barest minimum, a reality check.

Underthinker · 22/06/2024 14:09

@CassieMaddox Which of those rights only apply to nice transexuals?

I think it becomes ‘boring’ when those who want men in women’s spaces can’t answer questions.

Who knows at this point. But deflection has been going on for an age.

EasternStandard · 22/06/2024 14:22

It’s all a bit never ask for clarification

Why would women say ok to that? Because some men prefer it?

Crazy

They have made the best choice for them out of all the bad choices.

Hows about you turn your ire to the parties that could have our votes if they just thought about it.

What choices? How are Reform going to further the rights of women or even retain them?

It looks like they're planning to get the gender ideology out of schools, which is a good thing but how are they going to help women?

FWIW I don't necessarily want more rights, just the single sex spaces not safe spaces either. Single sex will do.

I also think transing children is and always was a terrible idea, that should be a given with all of us and banned immediately.

Cant edit.

I don't know, I didnt vote for them.

I don't accept that transwomen are men in women's spaces so we start from a false dichotomy.

I'll answer questions but on the whole the Gender Critical Feminist lobby are as off beam as the worst of so called transactivist lobby so it's unlikely my answers will satisfy.

To be clear my use of 'so called' there reflects accustations that I am a 'transactivist'. I'm not but I've been around enough and seen enough to believe there's way to much alarmism.

Bodeganights · 22/06/2024 14:32

Can you bloom15 explain more about women paying more for the NHS?

I was under the impression we all paid via taxes to fund the NHS. How are women going to pay more?

So what are trans women then?

And its
Trans women not transwomen. The space between the words is transphobic or something.

This is the 'most important' topic for you. Really?

You don't think the cost of living, NHS, social care, schools, utility bills, housing, Brexit and the environment are more important than what is really a niche issue that has no impact whatsoever to the majority of people's lives?

I smell an agenda here...

No I don't think any of those are more important.

It most certainly is not a niche issue either.

So you're blaming a government who haven't been in power for 14 years? The Tories allowed this harmful gender woo into schools and public services. All this erosion of women's rights has happened since they've been in power. What does it say in their manifesto?

A succession of Labour MPs spent a Friday in Parliament filibustering, in some cases for over half an hour, about ferrets to stop Liz Truss's EqA amendment, that would have clarified the single-sex exemptions as referring to sex and enforced fairness in sport, from being debated.

To claim that Labour have had no power and no influence concerning single-sex exemptions is disingenuous.

Are you seriously saying a transwoman who has been on hormones and has large breasts should be in a male changing room?

I know/know of three trans people. Two are men>women and one woman>man.

First time I met the latter in autumn 2019 when they were in process of transitioning. Their appearance and androgynous clothing caused some comment amongst colleagues. They were interviewed on the radio, in a professional role not becuase they were trans, and I would not have been able to tell other than becuase the name/role tallied. Met them in person last year; same.

Are you seriously suggesting that anyone born with a penis should be in a female changing room?

You mean, like this transwoman with breasts? Frankly, he's an nasty, abusive, misogynistic piece of work. As for the breasts, he did that to himself and if it means he is uncomfortable in men's spaces, well tough shit. I have no sympathy for him.

Nope. How do I, a rape victim, know that he has had his built-in rape weapon removed? I can't know. But I can hear his voice, smell him, and see his face, so I know he was born with one.
