Are there any vigils for Holly Newton?

I think the big vigil for Holly happened a few days ago, But I'm sure her family would appreciate if you set another one up for her!

3rd Feb. Did you go?

discobrain · 14/02/2023 15:22

Can we keep this about Brianna please? Thank you.

Young teens killing each other is a horrifying development over recent years. The idea that 14 and 15 year olds are murdering other children in broad daylight - it's unbearably sad.

I agree with @HiccupHorrendousHaddock. I fear no one is safe on a street or in a park anymore. Gone are the days you could let your young teens go to a park with friends.

I'm going to one of the vigils on the weekend.

This is all so unfathomably awful. She was just a child.

I can't imagine sending any of my DC out and them never coming home again, unbearably sad and I can't begin to comprehend the pain her family in. She should have had her whole life ahead of her Sad

Branleuse · 14/02/2023 15:44

Horrible. Poor kid

MOTU · 14/02/2023 15:55

I seem to be constantly arguing with dh to give our dd a little more freedom and then I heard this news yesterday, I have to admit it made me cry, my instinct is to lock my kids away until they're 30......

ReunitedThorns · 14/02/2023 16:29

I question whether the vigils are there to remember Brianna or whether they are purely political, the hashtags make no reference to her.

It is disappointing to see her life being hijacked.

This

discobrain · 14/02/2023 17:16

We are going to remember her, if you don't agree with vigils then fine. Don't come. Those of us who are going will make up for those who don't care.

No seriously - THIS.

At least be a bit more open about your agenda and intentions here OP. Piggybacking off a tragedy is not cool.

Yorkshirelass04 · 14/02/2023 17:19

I probably wouldn't go to a vigil for a teenager that was stabbed. It's very sad, but it is often reported in the media, so I wouldn't join just for this one.

Agree. I really hope your motives in posting this thread are genuine OP. Would be extremely unpleasant if you were using this poor child’s death to stir up trouble and push a political agenda surely?

Clymene · 14/02/2023 17:21

Over 50 teenagers have been murdered in the last year, most of them knifed, most of them by other teenagers.

I wonder why there aren't vigils up and down the country for them? I can only think it's because many of them are black.

Or is there some other reason I'm missing?

LewisCapaldisCamelToe · 14/02/2023 17:24

OP hasn't mentioned an agenda, hasn't alluded to an agenda, it's sick and sad that anyone is trying to derail this.

I'll be looking at the list now, to see if there's one near me, otherwise I might try organise one near me.

Thanks for posting this OP. Rest in power, Brianna.

90% of the people attending these vigils won't be there because they give a shit about teenagers being stabbed, they'll be there to drive their own agendas, just like the horrors on twitter. You look at their feeds, no mention of any other teenage stabbing victims, not a single one..

Brianna Ghey was her name and if people keep using her name to push their agenda or use it as some kind of gotcha for one side or the other, hate and division is all her name will end up being remembered for.

Nat6999 · 14/02/2023 17:29

Ds is going to the one in Sheffield on Thursday.

I don’t think it’s really anyone’s place to say why someone else goes to a vigil for a murdered child.

It's definitely not a case of not caring so don't accuse people who cannot attend a vigil for whatever reason to be uncaring!

Some people can feel sadness and empathy for the family from their own environment without having to attend vigils.
