I'm interested to know if the op knew her and knows her family and what they think of the vigils?

Strange thing to ask.

thedogsmababy · 15/02/2023 16:58

@Clarabell77 is it? I'm autistic so I'm often strange.

discobrain · 15/02/2023 17:33

Interesting that mnhq have moved this to the petitions and activism board and not commented to say why.

I haven't received anything email wise either.

What the fuck?

Diagnosed at the age of 48 with adhd and ASD. Also have a daughter with ASD which is what prompted my seeking diagnosis. She was diagnosed following multiple mental health issues age 13.5/14.

I stand 5ft 4. I walk with crutches due to a physical difficulty . I also have arthritis. I additionally have an under active thyroid. And food intolerances.

I'm currently taking a plethora of medications - would you like me to list them too?

What. The. Actual. Fuck.

thedogsmababy · 15/02/2023 19:35

But I was always the strange one. Who was quirky. And had no friends. And ticked. And stimmed and melted down. But of course I didn't have those names for it and nor did my parents or teachers so I was just the weird one. Who could never just quite get it right.

Again. What. The. Fuck.

thedogsmababy · 15/02/2023 19:45

I name changed regularly but I've been on mumsnet for ages.

As im sure @mnhq will be able to confirm.

I hope her family find some comfort in all the members of the public who came to pay their respects to her.

Most vigils tend to be politicised. It’s a way of showing you have strong feelings about the circumstances under which a person has died. I considered attending one in London for Sarah Everard because I have strong feelings about how unsafe women and girls are, and if I’d known about any for Olly Stephens, I might also have considered as the parent of a vulnerable child with ASD.

I find Brianna’s death so sad and frightening because it’s very likely she was killed for being different. A different kind of “different” to my child, but it still highlights the inability of a section of society to be able to tolerate any deviation from a very narrow set of social norms. That said, it should be possible to condemn this lack of tolerance while still respecting the concerns of women about trans people in women’s sports, prisons etc, and it’s disappointing to see the issues conflated.

Great post

Chanting 'Fuck Keir Starmer' led by a bloke with a loudhailer.

This isn't a vigil, it's a political protest. Brianna is all but forgotten.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 16/02/2023 08:05

What's it got to do with Keir Starmer?

AdamRyan · 16/02/2023 08:20

Ereshkigalangcleg · 16/02/2023 08:05

What's it got to do with Keir Starmer?

Because he said he won't let Corbyn stand for re-election and because he did a mumsnet Q and A and didn't brand us all transphobes.

It's a tenuous link to the vigils that allowed momentum to stir up trouble for their own political purposes. Disgusting behaviour.

JanusTheFirst · 16/02/2023 08:58

Sadly there are always those who use vigils for their own agendas. Which is why I don't like them.

And you accuse sex realists of not caring about children. You want healthy children to have irreversible medical treatment?

I mean, it's jaw dropping. I cannot comprehend how you accuse sex realist feminists of not caring about children, and of politicising the vigil of a murdered child, and then you post that?

Quite.

I repeat what I said before about disliking all vigils and how they have an unfortunate tendency to heighten tensions in far too many cases. Whilst many who attend are well intentioned, they do attract the more extreme elements who want to actively stir the shit rather than reflect thoughtfully about ways to resolve, de-escalate and move forward in a healthy and constructive way.

That response is doing a good job of illustrating the point.

picklemewalnuts · 16/02/2023 18:03

I really hope Brianna's family are on board. I can't imagine their pain if they aren't.
Nicola Bulleys family are having to deal with media attention gone mad.

No one wants their child's death appropriated by people with a political agenda.

There is no way I would use Brianna's death to highlight my GC concerns, because it would be outrageous. If any gender critical women have done so, then they should be ashamed of themselves. The TRAs who have done so should be equally ashamed and embarrassed.

To be fair, I guess it was a targeted insult. She told a specific poster to pee off and grow up.

A sentiment I understand but can recognise breaks the no personal attack rule.

Even when it's deserved.
