This is a thread on twitter for the current list of vigils for the murdered girl Brianna Ghey, around the country.

Listed here

Rest in power, precious girl.

OP hasn't mentioned an agenda, hasn't alluded to an agenda, it's sick and sad that anyone is trying to derail this.

I'll be looking at the list now, to see if there's one near me, otherwise I might try organise one near me.

Thanks for posting this OP. Rest in power, Brianna.

Thank you.

I question whether the vigils are there to remember Brianna or whether they are purely political, the hashtags make no reference to her.

It is disappointing to see her life being hijacked.

Completely. All those other families with children stabbed to death in the last seven days left thinking why was no one up in arms when my child died?

KnickerlessParsons · 14/02/2023 17:44

discobrain · 14/02/2023 17:16

We are going to remember her, if you don't agree with vigils then fine. Don't come. Those of us who are going will make up for those who don't care.

Did you know her then?

100% agree with this. A child who had their whole life to live and grow has been murdered and the whole tragic and heartbreaking aftermath is being exploited by those with a political agenda. Really sad and likely to compound a lot of the genuine grief for those who are struggling with the loss.

discobrain · 14/02/2023 17:48

Please stop derailing this.

Brianna deserves to be remembered and celebrated.

There have been so many stabbings of teenagers recently, usually by people of their own age. The Manchester Evening Bews seems to report one every week. Each case is dreadful.

I will be going to a vigil for Brianna.
Shocked at the casual disrespect on this thread.

Wolfiefan · 14/02/2023 17:52

Each case is dreadful but I wouldn’t be going to a vigil for someone I didn’t personally know or have a connection to. They should be to remember that person. A community affected by grief coming together.

Swimswam · 14/02/2023 17:52

The dictionary definition of rest in power is a call to continue the struggle for social justice and as a show of solidarity.
Thats not appropriate at this time. Let the family grieve, let the police do their job.

flashbac · 14/02/2023 17:53

From Twitter:

And the families who grieve their child (a 16 yo boy was killed in Chelmsford on the same day) watching as the journalists, pseudo celebrities and politicians line up to send their condolences,
must wonder why their child was not important enough.

Getir · 14/02/2023 17:54

The derailing of this thread is awful. Hardly surprising on MN though.

Rest in power, Brianna.

flashbac · 14/02/2023 17:54

Virtue signalling on the back of a tragic death. Sad.

iklboo · 14/02/2023 17:55

Brianna deserves to be remembered and celebrated.

So do all the victims. Attending vigils when you have no connection to the person or their family is ghoulish virtue signalling. And won't change a single thing.

You're right, it's genuinely appalling. As if this poor family isn't suffering enough.

yep. OP I wonder why this teen murder victim in particular has piqued your interest over the dozens of other teen murder victims?

whiteroseredrose · 14/02/2023 17:57

We're there vigils for Ava White last year?

Brianna deserves to be remembered and celebrated.

All the children brutally slain deserve to be remembered.

They were all loved and cherished by their families and friends. Their deaths have all left their communities reeling in shock and horror.

picklemewalnuts · 14/02/2023 18:01

What a shame the opportunity was missed to include the other young victims of child on child knife crime.

No one has said otherwise, nor has anyone stopped you from remembering them.

BethDuttonsTwin · 14/02/2023 17:21

Agree. I really hope your motives in posting this thread are genuine OP. Would be extremely unpleasant if you were using this poor child’s death to stir up trouble and push a political agenda surely?

This is so wildly unfair and fake.

Posting about vigils for anyone else, totally fine.

Post about vigils for a murdered trans girl? Oh no, now you’re some suspect manipulator with a sinister agenda.

FFS.

There is a board in this forum that politicises every move a trans person makes, denigrates them and dehumanises them daily, and calls their parents child abusers. They literally can’t get out of a car in a car park without finding themselves discussed and picked apart.

Brianna was bullied for years for being trans. There’s a trail of paper evidence in the public domain on that, with MPs involved.

Chasing off posters wanting to publicise vigils for her is a very low move indeed.

Take a look at yourselves.

discobrain · 14/02/2023 18:09
