My Daughter's 15 minutes of fame - devastated

I have a daughter in her late 20's. She has set up really successful business and is not only earning a good salary but she mentors and supports younger women to become entrepreneurs.
She was on tv this weekend being interviewed about her lifestyle and how she got there.
It has been shared all over on social media and the comments are horrific. From slating her looks to sexual assault threats.
I have stopped reading the comments but am devastated to read such vitriol regarding my child

OP posts:

I hope she can use her experience from this to coach and support other women through using social media. People, men on the whole, see successful women and just can’t help themselves - she must be selling her body, she’s using her looks, but my god she’s ugly!
I hope that your daughter can rise above these arseholes and show the world what a success she has become and can continue championing women - we certainly need women like her.

GladysHeeler · 22/10/2023 07:50

In our family we have a takeaway and you wouldn't believe the absolute bollocks people put on social media about it. It's completely bewildering. We sell fish and chips in a small town. It could not be less interesting.

We were closed for six months recently and still the 'reviews' came in. Who are these people making up stuff about tartare sauce?

Gotanygrapes84 · 22/10/2023 07:50

Your poor daughter. She sounds like a smart young woman with a kind heart, which sadly is a prime target for these awful men lurking in comment sections.

whether she's running her own investment banking firm or a successful Only Fans it wouldn't matter - they would still tear her down.

I really hope she is doing ok and can realise this has no reflection on her, just on their misogyny and desire for women to be subservient and quiet homemakers.

Mrsjayy · 22/10/2023 07:52

I watched a documentary Rosie Jones made about trolling she has the double whammy of being a disabled woman ! Anyway her management had her sm filtered so she couldn't read the disgusting messages mostly from men . I don't understand what drives them.

NotObligedToArgueWithStrangers · 22/10/2023 07:53

Try not to read it, the internet is sadly brimming with utter arseholes. It's a sad fact that this kind of rubbish is a side effect of the social media based world we live in now. Her success is amazing and unfortunately you just have to grow a thicker skin and filter out the noise.

LoudSnoringDog · 22/10/2023 07:07

There’s an awful lot of men who sit on the internet commenting on women. They are generally sat in their childhood bedroom, still at home being looked after by Mummy. Failed relationships due to being immature / idiot/ abusive. So they hate women and because they have no actual physical women in their life to converse too ( apart from their Mum/ Nan ) they transfer their rage at failing in adult life onto successful women.

Agree weird incels that think women owe them and should be distributed amongst the male population like jelly beans.

Agree either you or a friend should review and report.

Fernandosseat514 · 22/10/2023 07:55

Gosh your poor dd. That’s so awful for her, and for you op. I hope she’s ok!

Pp is right when she says that the Internet has given these pathetic tossers a voice that they wouldn’t have previously had.

saraclara · 22/10/2023 07:56

Where are these messages, and how are they being allowed through? Presumably they're not in the TV company's page then?

NonMiDispiace · 22/10/2023 07:58

I suspect they’re sad, utterly inadequate little men with mini willies and peanut brains who lack the intelligence and imagination to do anything but make misogynistic remarks on social media.
They’re honestly not worth the air they breathe.
Congratulations to your daughter, you must be very proud of her!

ComeOutSun · 22/10/2023 07:59

People intimidated by a young woman much more successful than them, who just have to try to bring her down. Made extra easy by being able to hide behind a keyboard. I'd report the sexual assault threats and hope they learn a lesson.

Good on you OP's daughter. Keep being you.

Persiana · 22/10/2023 08:02

Pathetic incel men mostly responsible, or jealousy if any women commenting. I agree with pp get someone to check for any serious threats and report to police, otherwise ignore. Well done to your daughter

Iknowthis1 · 22/10/2023 08:02

No good ever comes from reading the comments. That's where the crazy people live.

Floopsy · 22/10/2023 08:05

She knows how hard she's worked for that success, no pathetic incel can take that away from her. Love the fact she helps raise up other women too.

I'm an Economics teacher and always looking for female entrepreneurs to discuss with my class. The girls in class absolutely love it when we look at female success stories - they feel so empowered by women just like your daughter. When they hear about women like her they feel like her success is theirs too.
There are more young girls looking to women like her as a role model than lonely men on the internet.

bellinisurge · 22/10/2023 08:05

Your DD sounds like a brilliant young woman. We all know that some people, particularly men, are jealous of successful women. The internet lets them put their dickhead opinions out of their tiny heads into the real world.
I wish them a lifetime of disappointment and unhappiness and I wish your DD every success

LizzieSiddal · 22/10/2023 08:06

Iknowthis1 · 22/10/2023 08:02

Agree I always think of these people as being the idiot in the village pub who’s be sat in the corner, in years gone by. Everyone would try to avoid them as they spout utter drivel. Unfortunately the internet has given these people a voice, we need to ignore them if possible, just like we would in the pub.

BalletBob · 22/10/2023 08:06

Everything I want to say will be things that you and your DD already know. That these people don't matter. That they don't actually believe what they are saying themselves; it's just an expression of deep inadequacy on their part. That like all bullies, they are extremely weak and pathetic people - can you imagine someone as accomplished as your DD spending the time to write abuse online or having such hate in her heart for a stranger? But knowing all that and not being emotionally impacted by it are two separate things. I unfortunately don't have an answer for that part. I'm really sorry that she's been targeted by these people and I hope you can both move past it.

Your DD sounds like an exceptional woman and she can rest assured that her interview will have reached countless other women and girls who are inspired by her story and grateful to her for sharing her achievements. Take care of each other and surround yourselves with positivity. Don't be afraid to lean on close friends and family and tell them that you both need boosting back up and to feel the love for a bit. That's what loved ones are for.

ohdamnitjanet · 22/10/2023 08:08

BigBessie · 22/10/2023 07:03

A lot of the comments are from men saying that she "obviously" does Only Fans to be earning that kind of salary. Yet further saying she is ugly.

I can only imagine you feel, we all hate our children being bullied, because this is what it is. It says everything about these disgusting jealous and vile people and nothing about your lovely clever daughter.

Lovelynames123 · 22/10/2023 08:09

I've been through similar, not on a national level, but locally, where I was ridiculed and bullied on a Facebook page. My crime, having a successful business and giving back to the community. I actually reported the ring leader to the police, she was warned about malicious communication and had to write me an apology. Unfortunately, all that changed was she kept my name out of it.

Luckily, I'm a strong person, surrounded by support, as it sounds your dd is, and it only spurred me on to do better. I've an even more successful business and those idiots are still sitting on their arses spouting bile from behind a keyboard.

It's hurtful, but it is so important to rise above it. She'll never meet these people, they are cowards with nothing good going for them. Onwards and upwards ❤️

labamba007 · 22/10/2023 08:09

I own my own business and get this from time to time, but it's particularly worse for young women. People (many men but women too) cannot stand successful young women, it reminds them of their own incompetencies and failures.

Tell your daughter it's all about them and nothing to do with her. No one happy and successful that I know (men included) think to themselves, 'I'm going to comment on this woman I don't know'. They're sad, pathetic people who are only worthy of pity. Tell her to hold her head high and carry on being brilliant!

Panama2 · 22/10/2023 08:10

They are vile inadequate little men probably living in their Mum’s back bedroom with the curtains permanently drawn, with zero social life.

is it possible to report the posts?

it is marvellous what your daughter has achieved all credit to her, well done x

Dotcheck · 22/10/2023 08:10

Your daughter sounds amazing. We need people in the world who are prepared to help other in the way she does- she is literally changing lives.

There’s a reason why the comments function is often turned off. Some people are just assholes.

Please don’t let this knock out her trajectory- she is doing amazing

Toooldtoworry · 22/10/2023 08:11

Your daughter must be doing something very right to garner such hatred from the trolls.

Tell her to keep going. Women need more like her!

VenusClapTrap · 22/10/2023 08:11

Your dd sounds amazing.

Never, never read the comments on SM. On anything. My ds was on Secret Life of Four Year Olds a few years ago, and all the parents were cautioned not to look at Twitter because it would be brutal. About small children! I didn’t look but dh did and confirmed there were some very nasty comments about a couple of the children. It’s quite unbelievable. Nobody is immune.

JackieQueen · 22/10/2023 08:14

Congratulations to your daughter for her achievements 💐

Prescottdanni123 · 22/10/2023 08:20

So sorry OP. People are vile.

Celebrities are told not to Google themselves or look themselves up on social media for this very reason.
