My Daughter's 15 minutes of fame - devastated

BigBessie · 22/10/2023 06:33

I have a daughter in her late 20's. She has set up really successful business and is not only earning a good salary but she mentors and supports younger women to become entrepreneurs.
She was on tv this weekend being interviewed about her lifestyle and how she got there.
It has been shared all over on social media and the comments are horrific. From slating her looks to sexual assault threats.
I have stopped reading the comments but am devastated to read such vitriol regarding my child

Absolute scum OP. It's a sport for many people.

I hope that you and your DD know that these outspoken idiots are a minority. I'm sure she has reached other young women who will be inspired.

Gowlett · 22/10/2023 06:41

The people with good things to say aren’t on the internet spouting off like these losers. It’s just a horrible pastime for some.

Hapshepsut · 22/10/2023 06:46

Its constant, don't take it personally - if you can bear to, skim through and report the offensive comments to the site. If anything is genuinely threatening, report to the police

I'm really sorry you are going through this- it is jealously, pure and simple- some people have nothing in their lives other than this tiny bit of power to upset people on line - in contrast, your daughter clearly has a full and productive life

Donotshushme · 22/10/2023 06:48

I'm sorry that these utter twats have ruined your daughter's moment. The internet is a very hostile place for lots of women.

Talapia · 22/10/2023 06:50

Agree it's jealousy.

Many people use social media to be vile. Their true colours. It's not about your daughter at all, it's about what spineless, heartless, vacuous individuals they are.

Well done to her. Continue to be proud and don't give a crap about others mean spiritedness.

Unexpecteddrivinginstructor · 22/10/2023 06:50

earning a good salary but she mentors and supports younger women to become entrepreneurs.

There is a subset of people who get really angry and jealous of such passion and success, sometimes because she is a woman. Regardless of what she looked like they would find things to criticise because that is what bullies do.

Your dd sounds like a wonderful and successful woman who is willing to share her skills with others.

BigBessie · 22/10/2023 07:03

A lot of the comments are from men saying that she "obviously" does Only Fans to be earning that kind of salary. Yet further saying she is ugly.

There’s an awful lot of men who sit on the internet commenting on women. They are generally sat in their childhood bedroom, still at home being looked after by Mummy. Failed relationships due to being immature / idiot/ abusive. So they hate women and because they have no actual physical women in their life to converse too ( apart from their Mum/ Nan ) they transfer their rage at failing in adult life onto successful women.

stayathomer · 22/10/2023 07:07

Agreed that it’s totally a jealousy thing and also a woman thing too, but also that the people who bother to comment are sitting at home waiting to comment on anyone because they’re bitter. Well done to your daughter op, she sounds amazing

LoudSnoringDog · 22/10/2023 07:08

Successful women that they don’t know and will never meet on the internet that should say

YireosDodeAver · 22/10/2023 07:09

It's not personal, it's the endemic misogyny of society. Women are not permitted to thrive. Every female MP gets regular rape and death threats because they dare to have a voice. I was in the local newspaper for winning a science prize at 18 and I got hate mail for it. We cannot let this stop us, we can only ensure we bring up our sons to be more respectful and to have the courage to call out and condemn sexism in other men, and to teach our daughters resilience and confidence to face the onslaught until society changes.

Agree. But by thriving like this your daughter is helping to challenge our deeply unequal society. Well done to her.

Kittenkitty · 22/10/2023 07:21

Perhaps ask a trusted friend who is as not as invested to skin through the comments and report any threats and see if there are any that seem genuine.

you could also ask them to send you any positive ones so you’re not missing out.

determinedtomakethiswork · 22/10/2023 07:30

This happens to every single woman who does anything for herself. You are right, it's absolutely appalling.

EdgeOfACoin · 22/10/2023 07:32

There is a small minority of men who have no life and spend all day long online watching Andrew Tate and porn.

These men contribute nothing to society and never will.

If your daughter saw these people in real life, she would feel nothing but derision. These are not people your daughter would want to impress, date, be friends with or work for. Their opinions are worth less than a smear of dog mess on the underside of your shoe.

Unfortunately, the internet has given such pathetic men a voice. Please, pay no attention. They speak nonsense. Everyone - and I mean everyone - knows your daughter is not ugly and did not become successful through OnlyFans.

Nobody with half a brain cell would take any of their comments seriously.

Enjoy your daughter's 15 minutes of fame and I hope this brings her many wonderful opportunities in future!

Dentistlakes · 22/10/2023 07:35

Unfortunately, this is what often happens when successful women put themselves out there. It’s bloody awful op and I would be very upset too.

Try to focus on your daughter’s achievements and not on the idiots who get a kick out of saying awful and untrue things about people online. The issue is clearly with them, not your daughter.

Lwrenagain · 22/10/2023 07:36

@BigBessie 💐 massive hugs!

Right, firstly congratulations on raising a successful woman who obviously wants to give back to others, what a wonderful thing for her to do.

Secondly, the Internet is absolutely full of raging little tosspots who are sat on their phones trying to make life as miserable for everyone else as they feel. Don't give them that power.

Thirdly, 9 times out of ten and I'm not even exaggerating that, but if ever I said "no thank you" to a bloke offering me a drink or worse, didn't want to pursue chatting on dating websites the response would be, honestly, 9 out of 10, "you're a fat slag/dog/who'd shag you anyway" type comments.
Those utter little gobshites say those things because they can't bare women not being interested in them. They've looked at your beautiful and successful daughter and sexulised her, realised they'll never have someone as beautiful and successful as her as a partner and decided to publicly degrade her. What horrid little fuckwits.

Fourthly, the comments section of absolutely anything is a cesspit of jealousy, cruelty and total fucking stupidity. I don't do SM for that reason.
It brings out the most heinous idiots imaginable. I'll keep myself anonymous and talk to strangers in a moderated fashion but that's it. Your daughter isn't special in that respect, of being targeted, I mean that kindly, horrid people target anyone. Crikey, my DP showed me yesterday (not as a joke, he found it unhinged) the comments on Paris Hiltons baby! These freaks are trolling baby's, what chance does a young, successful and gorgeous woman stand?

Lastly, please don't let some creepy little pricks ruin this massive achievement. I as a complete stranger who has no idea who your lovely DD is am proud of her achievements and wish her every success. More people probably will feel the same as I do, we're just not sat at comments sections waiting to drag lasses down because as normal as it is on the net, its not really normal at all. If you get me!

Much love to you both.
Go do something lavish only successful people can and enjoy knowing those dicks won't ever get that experience 😂
(And tell me what because I'm a broke little pleb and wants to live vicariously through others 😂)

lordloveadog · 22/10/2023 07:39

Lots of men see us as property and hate the freedom we have at the moment and that we can earn our own money.

BigBessie · 22/10/2023 07:39

I'm going to show her all these comments. Thanks so much, beautiful, wonderful ladies

OP posts:
Mrsjayy · 22/10/2023 07:43

Men sitting online all day hating women are pathetic trolling Is their life how sad is that ! I'd report them all .

This.
Your daughter sounds like an excellent human being and a great role model, @BigBessie . You must be immensely proud of her.

joelmillersbackpack · 22/10/2023 07:45

I think social media has opened up a window on how much so many men truly hate women. No matter what she was being interviewed for, they would have found fault, being too pretty or too ugly, too loud or too quiet, too successful or not successful enough, it’s always something.

Good for your daughter, you should be so proud of what she’s achieved and I hope she knows these horrible trolls would never dare speak to her like that in real life. They’re not fit to lick her boots.

Daffodilwoman · 22/10/2023 07:47

Lots of good advice on here.
I agree with asking a friend to read through the comments and tell your dd all the good ones. Then report any threats to the police.
Well done to your dd.

LizzieSiddal · 22/10/2023 07:48

BigBessie · 22/10/2023 07:03

Flowers It’s pure misogyny. Some men hate women and especially a successful one. They can’t wait to throw insults from behind a screen.

It’s best not to read them but do tell your Dd she can report any threats of violence to the Police.

CarbsAreNotMyFriend · 22/10/2023 07:49

She sounds incredible OP, you must be so proud! Kudos to her 👏🏼

I don't understand these people, it's clearly jealousy but so sad that they can't be happy for someone else. I hope you're both able to ignore the comments and that she shows them all by becoming even more successful and continuing to mentor some more incredible women!

P.S. I'm continually telling my kids to big up their friends and classmates, and remind them how good it feels when they receive a compliment or kindness. We can raise our kids to be cheerleaders instead of haters 🥳
