Your very first thought when you saw your baby?

Hi ladies (and some gentlemen)!

Having no children myself yet, I have always been curious about the first thought that comes through your mind when you first see your baby. And what better place to ask than MN!

So please, I would love to hear your thoughts... from the cheesiest ("He's the most beautiful angel in the world!") to the funniest ("Gee, it looks like a blob!" - Angelina Jolie with daughter Shiloh).

Thanks in advance!

DD - 'oh my god, what have I done'

DS - 'a boy you say? Oh no, I cannot cope with one of them'

HappyMummyOfOne · 05/10/2009 19:38

"Whos baby is that" - I blame it on waking up from sedation and being high on morphine

OOOOOOOOOOOpsacoconut · 05/10/2009 19:43

Give her to me then OMG it's a baby, a real baby and she's alive. The alive bit comes from the fact that I had had regular reccuring dreams about her being stillborn from very early on. I still check on her at least 5 times a night and she is 13mo.

OMG its blonde
OMG its got blue eyes
OMG she is a girl

Both dh and I are dark haired and brown eyed and I was convinced I would have a boy.

ElenorRigby · 05/10/2009 20:02

I had serious concerns that I would not bond with DD (now 2) before she was born.
I was shit scared I would reject her as I had never been maternal.
However the moment I saw her, I loved her. So beautiful!

Still she is strong willed, not bad going for a 2yo.

Jux · 05/10/2009 20:10

We'll have to find a different name for her.

pellmell · 05/10/2009 20:30

Nearly twenty years ago
dd1...wow, she's so tiny, yet perfectly formed. Hope she is heathy. I was aware how bright and sunny it had become outside for a late november morning and felt sure of a positive future for her (she was/is severely disabled)

four years ago
dd2 ...I was worried sick about history repeating itself
Apart from the shock of "I think I've broken her legs" (she had positional talipes or club foot in both legs-all corrected now) I just thought "please god"
Two beautiful girls

LoveMyGirls · 05/10/2009 20:34

Dd1 - is my baby supposed to be blue/ grey, why did no-one mention this to me earlier? She turned pink after a bit and had massive mop of hair!

Dd2 - Can't remember saying anything I think I fell asleep.

MissMoopy · 05/10/2009 20:38

"She's ginger!" She isn't, it was the blood in her hair!

RedHairedGirlie · 05/10/2009 22:15

Just thought 'wow - did that little person really come out of me!!!... now 6 momths on sometimes still have to go check she is there and I didn't dream it all

diddle · 05/10/2009 22:55

DS1 - burst into tears, thought he was perfect, i was totally overwhelmed from the 1st second.

DS2 - burst into tears, thank god he's breathing and ok, EMCS after 1 week of labour and getting to 7cm.
Its his 2nd birthday today!

DS3 - burst into tears, 1st though was wow, another boy, i thought i'd be dissapointed he wasn't a girl, but all i could think was that i was so thrilled to have 3 boys.

Carmel206 · 05/10/2009 23:13

DS1 -Oh , what am I supposed to do with you....you look strangely familiar

DD2 -Thank god you're here and this bit is over ...Oh , what am I supposed to do with you?

A few years on - we've all figured it out!

Madsometimes · 06/10/2009 12:41

dd1 - (when she returned to me after being resusitated) - She's beautiful, but why doesn't she have any toes? (They grew)
dd2 - She looks a bit like my mum and a bit like ET.

Dd2 is quite beautiful now too.

wilkos · 06/10/2009 12:47

in the first ten seconds..

urggh what a funny colour she is

oh my god the umbilical cord is round her neck GET IT OFF GET IT OFF!!!!

ahh thats better.

[2 second calm}

oh god take her take her dh im going to be sick! BOAK

TurtleAnn · 06/10/2009 12:53

'Don't drop it, hold the baby, don't drop him he'll drown, hold the baby carefully'

  • water birth

And when he was given to DH
'hold him carefully, please don't drop him'

I didn't say any of this out loud, I was in too much pain following the birth and waiting to be stitched up.

WhereYouLeftIt · 06/10/2009 13:33

No wonder they had to cut me, he's a total clone of his dad and grandad. (Large flat heads run in DH's family - think Kryten from Red dwarf.)

marytuda · 06/10/2009 16:56

He's white as I am! I was expecting brown, DP being pure bred African. And all that straight black hair! (did I have quick fling I've forgotten about?!)
Other than that I cried, as I knew I would. I never expected to become a mother.
2 years on ds is gorgeous golden brown, body and hair(now v curly) both. They say it takes 18 months for mixed race babies to reach final colour, which someone should have told me at the time.

CantThinkofFunnyName · 06/10/2009 16:59

DC 1 - "urgh, shit all over him - why do people say you fall in love with them immediately - he looks weird!"

DC" - "oh, she's gorgeous, I understand totally how people say they fall in love with their childen immediately!"

WailingGhoshe · 06/10/2009 17:08

OMG he looks like an Orangutan, he was 6 weeks prem long limbed skinny and covered with orangey red hair!

BloodRedTulips · 06/10/2009 17:17

dd - "Oh Gods, she's blue. Shit... she's dead, my baby is dead, i have to hold her, if she's warm she'll be ok" (mw wrestled her from me and resussitated her and all was well in the end)

ds1 - "a boy with giant balls! he's lovely a pink.... wow those are big balls.... are they supposed to be that red?"

ds2 - (viewed upside down through my legs as i was kneeling) "Agh, there's a baby there! That was quick. He He, i knew it was a boy.... omg, i had forgotton about the giant red balls!" (all as his body was sliding out then he was passed between my legs and handed to me) "wow, he's lovely and hot, i'd forgotton how good they smell.... shit, i'm tired, and covered in poo"

LovestheChaos · 06/10/2009 17:29

Damn that emergency forceps delivery really screwed up his eye. Oh shit, are they doing chest compressions?

After getting a glimpse of his poorly eye all I could see was his limp legs for a few minutes while they worked on him.

He's fine, and gorgeous. But he has a black eye in all of his newborn baby pics from the first days.

carocaro · 06/10/2009 17:29

DS1 - I fainted, right there, when they gave him to me (had just had very fast and early labour so was in shock), when I came round, I thought thank GOd he's OK and that he looked all wrinkly

DS2 - give him to me I yelled and I thought his balls were enormous! Like many other posters this was really the thing that ccaught my eye!

amelie2781 · 06/10/2009 19:37

DS : Oh great, he is clean and pink and gorgeous (no blood, no wrinkly skin...).
5 seconds later : Oh, god, it's a boy, thank god it's a boy (DH told me he really did not want a baby girl 2 hours before I was induced).
10 seconds later : Oh dear, he is peeing on the midwife.

scottishmummy · 06/10/2009 19:45

alive,thank god

funtimewincies · 06/10/2009 19:48

With ds: Take him away, I think I'm going to be sick .

And I was, very, but that's Pethadine for you !
