Your very first thought when you saw your baby?

Hi ladies (and some gentlemen)!

Having no children myself yet, I have always been curious about the first thought that comes through your mind when you first see your baby. And what better place to ask than MN!

So please, I would love to hear your thoughts... from the cheesiest ("He's the most beautiful angel in the world!") to the funniest ("Gee, it looks like a blob!" - Angelina Jolie with daughter Shiloh).

Thanks in advance!

DD1 - during CS after asking to see her for ages while she was cleaned and checked and handed to DH and then after 10 minutes being presented with an eye looking out of a large bundle of towel - oh. That's nice.
DD2 - fuck. She's enormous!

puffylovett · 30/09/2009 10:27

God what a relief... that's not my baby...

DS-He has HUGE blue balls, why?
DD1- It's a girl, and she's huge! DD1 was 8lb 4 which seemed huge compared to DS who was only 6lb 11.
DD2- That was quick, and you look like an alien.

Oh my God, so there was really a baby in there all along!

CayPeag · 30/09/2009 10:44

Are they sure it's the right one?

Was a slash-and-grab CS with DH not allowed in teh room...

Got goopy later though, obviously

usernametaken · 30/09/2009 10:46

DD- "What is it? What is it?" I asked.
DH (hyperventilating) "it's a .... it's a....., it's a...."
"get on with it" I say,
"it's a..., it's a... girl".
"Are you sure?" I reply!

DS (12 days ago)- crash c-section birth, millions of onlookers hold their breath and wait for him to cry and I sob "thank fuck for that" when he wails, then "blimey, what an angry looking chappy"!

FabBakerGirlIsBack · 30/09/2009 10:49

shine ^exactly what I thought.

Bettymum · 30/09/2009 10:51

Wow, every other new baby I've seen has been hideous but she is the most beautiful thing I've ever seen in my life.
Photos taken at the time may suggest otherwise but when they laid her on my chest that's honestly what I thought.

DS - Thank god he's crying (55 hour labour followed by EMCS).
DS - Are you sure it's a girl? Followed by oh my god she's too small.

PortBlacksandResident · 30/09/2009 10:58

Of course (s)he's a journo

PortBlacksandResident · 30/09/2009 10:59

That's not what i thought first btw - DS1 didn't come out with a notepad, pen and flashbulb camera.

OMG my poor baby, what have they done to you, I am soooo sorry

norksinmywaistband · 30/09/2009 11:03

That was dd
DS - Oh thank God you are all in one piece, OMG your a BOY

GirlsAreLOud · 30/09/2009 11:06

"Thank f*ck that's over" and "I'm sorry baby" (forceps delivery).

Very quickly followed by a suspicious "that baby looks quite big to me"

(got her on the scales, 9 pounds 11, OMFG!!)

moosemama · 30/09/2009 11:06

Ds1 - "Oh my good look at the size of his feet!" He did have big feet though!
Ds2 - I just wondered at how familiar he was to me.
DD - "Oh she's so tiny and has the most beautiful, huge eyes" and "Poor thing looks really shocked." (She shot out onto the bed with her waters intact, they ruptured as her bum hit the bed! )

Sourdough · 30/09/2009 11:08

LilRed, we had it the other way around.

It was me who said "See! See! told you it was a boy" and DH and midwife chimed in together, "No, it's a girl - that's the cord" I was still incredulous and didn't believe a word, but they were right.

I also guessed her weight - 9lbs 6oz. As I'm not quite 5'2 and fairly petite I knew every ounce.

Summerfruit · 30/09/2009 11:10

DD1- Haaaaaaaaaaaa finally I get to meet you !! Hand on a second, why are you all brown ?? Oh my god, oh my god, she is so cute ! How did we manage to make such a cutie ????

DD2-Oh dear..not really the cutest baby I have ever seen, will she get better ?? and then again one day later, I remember being in the lift of the hospital after being discharged and I looked at her in the baby carrier...She does look like a rat...

She is now a gorgeous little girl !!!!

notyummy · 30/09/2009 11:12

'Thank God its out'

Unfortunately I didn't just think it - I said it.

In response to the midwife trying to let me find out the sex rather than telling me:

'Mum - its a ???'

DH: 'Errrmmm' (Was staring at her overinflated girl bits desperately thinking 'are they balls or not?' I found out later. )
