Your very first thought when you saw your baby?

Hi ladies (and some gentlemen)!

Having no children myself yet, I have always been curious about the first thought that comes through your mind when you first see your baby. And what better place to ask than MN!

So please, I would love to hear your thoughts... from the cheesiest ("He's the most beautiful angel in the world!") to the funniest ("Gee, it looks like a blob!" - Angelina Jolie with daughter Shiloh).

Thanks in advance!

Ds1 - "What am I going to talk to you about for the rest of your life?" - he was the first baby I had held and I did not know what you said to them.

Dd - "What is wrong with my baby?"

Ds2 - "You have a son" - all confused after the anesthesia.

PuppyMonkey · 30/09/2009 11:17

So what if it's a journalist, tis still make me larf!!!

GentleOtter · 30/09/2009 11:26

You said that to your baby, Puppy?

DS - can't remember, which I find really upsetting

DD - oh god she's so purple. Is she all right? (she was fine after a night in special care).

Eyeballls · 30/09/2009 11:35

"Bowl, bowl, I'm going to be sick..."

In my defence, they took her away for over 15 minutes straight away when she was born, still don't know why and in the time she was away the nausea from the drugs really hit and reached their peak just at that moment...

Poledra · 30/09/2009 11:48

God, if this is a journalist, I want my posts deleted! I am so gullible but hate being taken advantage of

I thought so too shiney- my newbie troll sniffing nose is twitching, but it does tend to be a bit over keen. I've screamed troll that many times am like medieval peasant pointing finger at witches...

Desperate to post mine. But don't want to see em in Red in the GPs waiting room in a couple of months time

SofaQueen · 30/09/2009 11:55

With DS2, I was much bigger than with DS1 so was expecting him to be bigger. He was more than a pound lighter and much smaller.

My first thoughts : That's it?

bratnav · 30/09/2009 12:12

Given that this OP also started a MIL thread a week or so ago I think we can safely assume they are a journo.

nappyaddict · 30/09/2009 12:14

Mine was awwwwwww he looks just like X did when he was a baby (my cousin's child - my cousin was my birthing partner)

for DS1 "Thank f*ck that's over"

And, er, pretty much the same for the others too. I think I said "Hello!" to DD but she was a calm home waterbirth.

ja9 · 30/09/2009 12:17

'oh good...can i sleep now?'

PuppyMonkey · 30/09/2009 12:19

But if it ends up in Red, so what?? Any thread might theoretically.

No, that's not what I thought on first seeing my baby, btw.

SoupDragon · 30/09/2009 12:20

OP has made a variety of posts before.

traceybath · 30/09/2009 12:22

OP has done quite a bit of posting . . .

First thoughts were

DS1 - I've given birth to elvis - he came out with masses of dark hair in a perfect quiff

DS2 - oh shit - please breathe as was poorly and taken to NICU

DD - yeay it is a girl and I don't have to return all the pink stuff I'd been secretly buying.

'he's filthy'
followed by
'what the hell am I going to do with a baby?!'
swiftly followed by
'oh, he's so beautiful, his poor face' as it was a forceps delivery and he's all cut and bruised

ben5 · 30/09/2009 12:26

ds1 . me; what is it
midwife. a boy
me; are you sure?!!!

ds2 . is he breathing?
ds2 big cry!!!
what big bits and a pointy bum!!!

Tidey · 30/09/2009 12:28

DS - 'Oh my God, we've got a baby'

DD - 'She's not that big' (MW had told me she'd be at least 9lb, she was 8lb 1.)

I wasn't thinking all that clearly or inventively, obviously.

ginnny · 30/09/2009 12:34

DS1 : He's got your eyes - to XP
DS2 : Ah he's got curly hair!!

Shiney - I thought journo at first then I recognised the name from the separate beds thread.

notcitrus · 30/09/2009 12:35

Strewth, it's a baby! (came out in one push after geared up for CS...)

then 'Aw, he's got lovely oval eyes just like mine! Shit, has he got Down's?' Had to ask the chap next to my head, who reassured me that no, he's just got lovely oval eyes like mine.

Pluginbaby · 30/09/2009 12:37

Ds1 I thought looked like a rabbit pulled out of a hat by a Magician! (I was on operating table with screen and full spinal block and pethidene so felt totally disconnected to the experience)
