ok let's try this again

good morning everybody! hope you all had a reasonable night!! we didn't do too badly.
ds went down at 8 (!) - really late for him; but i had him napping at 6 (when he normally gets tired for bed) and he woke 30min later!! so i could bath him and put him to bed properly! - but didn't really change much. - fed him at 10 and he woke (as usual) at 1. - then again at 4. when i got there DP was allready with DS - but only because he got up a few min earlier to go the the loo - normally he never wakes when ds cries! - so still, i could sneak back to bed (i "temporarely" used the other bed due to dp snoring ) - waking at 5.30 and up at 7. sigh - but that poor little boy is so blocked up, no wonder he can't sleep properly

ds is watching lilo&stitch right now; dp still in bed hmmm - well and me thinks i try and get some breakfast

see you in a mo

SusiS · 16/10/2004 07:59

oh and libb! i knew it was meant to be a "funny story" and i thought it was quite funny

Egypt · 16/10/2004 10:16

blimey! libb we all know you were telling us a funny story about the socks. ffs. you have just got back to work, worried over ds, the last thing you need is someone coming onto our thread and criticising you for posting on something simply happened during your day. you weren't complaining at the childminder. poor you libb. ignore.

we have this maybabies thread to share thing, moan, groan and generally try to make each other feel better in a supportive way. we have known each other in the 'virtual world' for a while and feel that we can share things with each other without being criticised for it. no way in the world was libb downmouthing her childminder. we know what a hard job it is. goodness, one baby is difficult enough. please don't feel that anyone is being put down, because you're not.

anyway, bad bad bad bad night. dd fed far more last night than she did in the day yesterday. i am worried that she has her feeding routine totally mixed up now. going to try and get her the minimum at least, down her today through bottles of ebm and some formula, because i'm not superwoman. she woke 7 times last night, and yes would not settle without the magic nips. i am totally knackered and weak. i can't not won't settle her without it. basically at my wits end and if this doesn t improve soon, i think i might die from exhaustion! seriously, i don't know what to do.

how are you all today?

cat, she is b...e...a...utiful!! love the last one......'oh god, here comes the spoon AGAIN'!

Hear hear... libb I laughed about your sock story and I understand how much you appreciate your childminder. I'm resisting temptation to talk about things living under bridges while goats trip trap across...

Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaanyway. Another good night last night for us. (I feel like I ought to apologise for that though - I really am sending good sleep vibes for everyone else, promise!!) But ds2 seems very cranky this morning and isn't settling well for his nap (he's still grumbling but not enough to warrant going up to check on him) so I hope that won't mean that we're in for a rough night.

Just finished pureeing some carrot - I'm trying to cook & freeze the first week's worth of weaning foods now to have it all ready in the freezer for three weeks time. I wonder if I'll keep to this level of efficiency?!

Found the door bouncer in the garage so am going to clean that up today as well ready for trial tomorrow!! I've also signed up for Monkey Music starting November 1st for him and am RIDICULOUSY excited - he's been dragged along to loads of ds1's things but this is the first activity solely for him.

Yes, I'm pathetic

OP posts:
Egypt · 16/10/2004 13:35

ahh, bless....monkey music.

dd won't take a bottle from me, so there goes my plan of trying to get enough down her today. dh is golfing. sent him a text to tell him to be home at 4 for next feed, but we'll see!

so tired............ZZZZZZZZzzzzzzzzzzzz

spots · 16/10/2004 15:17

Egypt, really really I think you are dealing well with the night wakes... for what it's worth. She is still too wee for cc I think... 6 months supposed to be... so you may as well go with her needs for now, in the knowledge that nobody thinks you 'ought ' to be doing anything different. If your DD is like mine, at least there is a cast iron guarantee that she WILL go back to sleep, even if the method is not going to be good long term. For now, just safeguard what sleep you can get, because 7 times is a lot. I know people say the weaning=sleep equation doesn't work, but you may get a better picture of her habits when she is taking more solids because it puts her on the same timetable as us grownups. Trying to understand a belly full of liquid is beyond my powers of imagination certainly. She is lucky to have such a lovely mummy as you; no wonder she wants to see you and have her wicked way with you (x) number of times in the lonely night-times!

Am trying to work today but DD is wondering where I am and is v. unsettled with dh. I have to draw things like: a snake looking dubious; a fish with a rucsac on; a llama singing karaoke...Dagnammit, need all my concentration here! got to get 8 drawings done by end of the weekend

Not had a chance to look at all your pics so not being rude, can't wait for a lovely long session later. xxx

libb · 16/10/2004 15:26

Just read out to DP the post by CT and he is livid - I can't say am entralled either. Last week was a real "suck it and see" week so I really don't need a telling off to finish it - feeling quite narked now.

I have to work, I hate leaving DS with someone else but for a first week he was wonderful (to quote my childminder) and so that is that - don't lecture me about having an easy life because it is all relative in the end isn't it?

Flossam · 16/10/2004 15:41

Scuse me everyone! Libb, what a silly cow! I've been stalking you again sorry, wanting to see how you are and am most upset that this poster has upset you, for what I can see absolutely no reason. Please don't let it get to you, it is so clear that you weren't moaning about your childminder and as you said, you have had quite a good week, DS seems happy so think of the positives! Is everything else ok? I'm worried I have offended you about DS clothes? I'm sorry I am very clumsy at wording things. Hope I havent. Lots of love. x

prufrock · 16/10/2004 17:20

Ds is still sleeping well, so totally over the growth spurt. He has just learnt how to blow, so spends all day with pursed lips. DD keeps telling him to stop spitting

libb · 16/10/2004 17:23

Thank you Prufrock for the other posting. DS is the same! I miss the cute little squeaks and mews . . . although I think he is still a little too young for the bad manners lecture I have lined up!

kbaby · 16/10/2004 18:28

Ok try this one instead door bouncy one

Amfs · 16/10/2004 18:30

DD did 6pm to 4am last night (of course I was up till midnight playing Georgina's game ... grrr PMSL) and big breakthrough had a 90 minute nap in the day rather than just 30 minutes

have just done carrot / butternut squash and sweet potato purees .. in ice cube trays in the freezer for a couple of weeks time

can feel myself gearing up to food

Twiglett · 16/10/2004 18:34

Libb .. have just seen the someone upset you posts but scrolled down and can't find who or where (did find your 'change back to Twiglett' post though .. so here we are ... although I'll miss thinking of a dog sneezing every time I write the name amfs )

Don't know what happened but sorry you were upset

kbaby · 16/10/2004 18:59

Youll need to click the 'here to return to baby pics' to view the door bouncer one. Sorry i messed the link up and posted The wrong pic.

Spots I also bring DD into bed if she wakes at 6ish. If I put her back in her cot she is wide awake whereas if I bring her into bed I can normally get her back off to sleep for 2hrs.

Prufrock, He does have DD in the evenings and puts her to bed etc. I then get up to feed her during the night and also do one waking but by about 5am im too knackererd to get up which is when I nudge him. He says that if he wakes at 5am he cant get back to sleep as he knows he only has 1 hour b4 getting up for work

Egypt, I feel so sorry for you. I cant believe she woke 7 times could you try giving her ebm at night and get dh to do some of the feeds. Give him a timeslot ie 3-7am and lock yourself away in a bedroom where you wont here dd. Aparst from that just keep feeding her and sort out any probs at a later stage. You never know she may just turn into a perfect sleeper overnight. Well ok then maybe not but thats what im hoping for my dd

DD's not keen on carrot, pear and rice have been a hit but carrot she ate it all and then the last few teaspoons mustve tasted it and decided she didnt like it and pulled gagging faces. Oh and she hasnt had a poo now for 6 days is there anything I can do??

Libb the only thing I have to say to you is 'you are doing a brilliant job' Ignore such silly comments.

Can you believe it, 2 people from the April thread are ttc already !!!!

SusiS · 16/10/2004 19:08

welcome back oh twigeletitt!!

much better kbaby!! and what a cutey she is! i like the one on the floor laughing! oh, we've got the same gymmat and doorbouncer

agreed spots: i try not to think about it anymore and just wait till ds is at least 6months! - then i might start cc

you all are very busy on the freezing front!!! - my next ones will be mango, peas and parsnip! hope he'll like that! he liked everything else so far - even broccoli

been out today again. another day in the diy-shop phewww - hope we are done now!
and he is ever so good when we are out! doesn't sleep much though; he might miss something
so no wonder when we came back i just managed to give him dinner, a bath and he is in bed now! bless

Egypt · 16/10/2004 19:21

welcome back twiglett!! it's lovely just to type your name! the post was on this thread at 12.24 today.

thank you for your kind comments. it's nice to know you are in the same boat with your dd spots. i'm hoping last night was just a bad one and wont be repeated! she wouldnt take a bottle at all today. we tried 3 times. she kind of chews it and spits it out a bit like she does her spoon. wonder if she is getting a little confused. dh tried to feed her but nope. wouldnt take it tonight either at bedtime. just screamed and she was def hungry. put her on boob..............you know..... anyway, put her down awake tonight and she mumbled for a while. then went quiet. i havent been in to check, but she's obv gone off. have a bottle of ebm in the fridge for dh for later. he doesnt know yet but i cant see her taking it at all.

your pics are lovely kbaby. blimey arent they all getting on so well. bless.

ttc ?!!!!!!! whaaaaaaaat? who? you know if dh had his way i would be too. at the same time as going back to work. hmph

i cooked up some pears today. she hates apple.

Egypt · 16/10/2004 19:24

oh yes, also wondered if she was cold and didnt feel snug enough in her sleeping bag. also her hands feel really cold in the night and when i put my finger up her sleeves so do her arms. tonight i dressed her in a vest, babygro, cardigan (mil's knitting may be of use afterall) and then tucked a couple of blankets down the sides of the cot, nice and snug. we'll see if that makes a difference.

she's also sneezing alot. am i nasty to say that in a way if she gets a cold thats good cos i can give her medised without feeling guilty. (ie sedative)! not that i have.

GeorginaA · 16/10/2004 19:35

Twiglett, welcome back sweetie - much better nickname. I never really liked amfs (although it was funny) because it felt like letting those horrible people win .

Funnily enough, I've been cooking up a storm too... carrot, cream of pear (pear with baby rice and milk), and apple. Going to do some butternut squash just as soon as I can face attacking it with a machete (the one I bought is HUGE!), then I'll pop them all in the freezer.

BTW, how does everyone work out what's what in those icecube thingies? Tried to find some stickers for the lids in Tescos but they didn't have anything similar at all

kbaby - BEAUTIFUL piccies! I'm actually rather fond of that thumb sucking one, glad you made the mistake

OP posts:
Bozza · 16/10/2004 20:16

Oh well at least when I go back to work I might have a chance of keeping up with this thread.

Quick update. DD started on babyrice mixed with expressed milk and loves it. Actually started her on rice cakes to keep her happy while we are eating and they're going down OK too. She's jsut about sitting as well. But not reliably.

Egypt - think hope my coil string has just got curled up inside. Doctor says she always cuts them long. But I think they might hang down better if cut shorter. Because same thing happened to a friend who goes to the same doctor. But now a bit concerned about how they will get it out in five years time.

SusiS · 16/10/2004 20:25

ds is still asleep - will get fed 9ish and then we see if it made any difference that i shoved him full with breakky, lunch and tea! - fingers crossed!! - could really do with a longer interupted sleep! - i am falling into a joydance already after 4 hours sleep in one go

although dp is home tonight i can't rely on him getting up. he never hears him - it's not that he pretends "not to hear him"; he really doesn't! - how can someone NOT hear a baby cry at night
well, it's only a phase *looking in egypt's direction"

re knowing what is in freezer: i don't really "know"; i try to remember where i put it and also have a close look what's in it. some are obvious but apple/pear?? squash/sw.pot?? - well, it's not much difference to him

and they say try "different" varieties for his taste gums

i really need to go and get a new grobag!! old one is way too small now. - oh, and i really need to do something about his blocked nose. might get some medised too. any pharmacy stock it???

egypt: i've got the same problem! i think ds' room is freezing cold (doctor said to keep window open for his nose - it seems to help a bit) - and i am a bit concerned now how to dress him!! but his hands are quite warm. and he's got a lovely warm fleeceplanket

omg, ttc!! can't imagine that now. just think if it worked straight away you'd have a newborn again in 9 months with a 15months d1 - lovely!!! confused icon
but same here: dp asked already how many i want in total...

Egypt · 16/10/2004 21:32

god, i know nothing about coils. 5 years?!!!!! blimey. guess it s not like having a tampon string hanging out for 5 years. ugh!

i put the same food in one whole tray georgina and then have just cut up some sticky labels into smaller strips and stuck one on the end of each white tray where there is a bit of a lip. but..be warned. they lose their stick when frozen!

i think all pharmacy;s stock it susi. ok have to admit i gave her it. she woke already - 8.30, when the phone rang. or was it just 2 cycles of 45 mins? obv in a light sleep anyway. i went to her and she was really bunged up and sniffly. so i gladly ran to get the medised. have since her her moan but she's gone quiet now. off to bed. am taping robbie williams thing on ch4. was HUUUUUUGE take that fan when ...erm...a bit younger.

GeorginaA · 16/10/2004 21:32

Okay, I might have gone a little overboard on the prepreparing weaning foods...

... I've filled 3 of those Blooming Marvellous trays to go in the freezer

Would I be totally insane to order another 2 trays?

OP posts:
Twiglett · 16/10/2004 21:34

Georgina .. just decant the trays into plastic freezer bags (or left over breast milk bags) and start again ...

GeorginaA · 16/10/2004 21:35

But but but ... the whole point was that I could put the cute little cubes straight into the microwave when needed!!!

OP posts:
GeorginaA · 16/10/2004 22:36

Gah... ds2 has just woken up hungry and had a 45 min feed... guess I'm not going to get a good night tonight.

BTW, anyone know how to get butternut squash stains off hands
