but but but .. if they're already frozen they don't stick together too badly (a sharp tap can dislodge them) .. and you can still have your 'cute little cubes'

GeorginaA · 16/10/2004 23:31

oh oh oh .... BAH!

(I still have butternut squash stains)

Ds2 still unsettled so have given him his first ever dose of medised (he was rubbing his nose and he has got a cold, as we all have, poor mite). Not that I'm saying he's now drugged... but he's currently staring at the ceiling and cooing at it...

goor morning
another normal (bad) night! fed at 9.30 woke 12.30/2/4/6.30up - so prove! solids don't change anything!

georgina: i ordered more trays - but oh wise twigeletitt bowing head - might even try your freezerbag approach - and still no clue how to label them either - but as soon as i come up with something usefull i'll let ya know
hmm re stains - lemonjuice?

egypt: dp watched robbie yesterday and said it was fab!! he even gets told he looks something like him - well pre my cooking

BUT i am looking forward to my "afternoon coffee meeting with my girls"! - without ds
dang, i am getting already concerned how dp will cope. should i write him a list? he is taking him out and i just have this feeling he'll forget to take the "important" things ...
or should i just let him get on with it???

time for ds bottle
talk to you in a mo

looks like robbie!!!!? mmmmmmmmmm, dream.

bns stains. hmm, i know what you mean. i found when i looked at my fingertips after doing the damn thing, i seem to had lost my fingerprints. its like the stuff makes your skin really tight. well did me but i may just be weird. dont know about stains just put lots of handcream on to combat tightness. if desperate dilute a little bleach in a lot of water and immerse. worked for me when dying a shirt once, with holes in the rubber gloves

well after medised she slept til 1am which was an improvement on previous nights. phew. then woke 3,5,7. dh got up and i laid in til 9.45 then fed her and she went back down. i had mediseded her at 7 so she may still be suffering from effects of that is is hence still asleep. i've just got out of bed......aaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

i have 6 trays remember georgina- they do have their uses. dunno about labels. how about the little round stickers you can buy in packs at newsagents and whs smith etc. thing is, a pain to peel off again. need to be waterproof i guess and oh,oh oh oh, what about writing on the plastic with a whiteboard marker????? it'll stay on in freezer and wipe off easily in wash.

prufrock · 17/10/2004 13:38

I use a permanent marker - it does actually wipe off quite easily. You have to make sure the cubes are dry before writing though.
And make sure you write clearly. Dh once gave dd a cube of pureed pork and parsnip mixed in with her porridge because all but the Pad rubbed off and he presumed it was pear!. She ate it all though.

Egypt · 17/10/2004 16:03

ugh!

GeorginaA · 17/10/2004 17:40

Oooo... marker is a VERY good idea, ta

phewww just came back from my "evening out"! was so great!!! almost no babytalk
instructed dp before i went (was gone for 5 hours)and when i came back he told me he renamed ds to "damian"! - i know he's no angel but he is just a normal baby
oh, and i need to get the marker out too. dp fed ds mango with parsnip for tea - but he loved it

SusiS · 17/10/2004 19:41

oh, ds got some medised tonight. hope it helps free up his nose!

GeorginaA · 17/10/2004 19:56

ds2 not settling again tonight. Earlier we noticed (as well as a bad cold, poor mite) that a) his front bottom gum sometimes feels sharp sometimes doesn't (tooth on verge of breaking through?) and b) there's a shiny bit sometimes sharp on the top right towards the back (molar?!! already?!!). So we figure he's feeling pretty uncomfortable right now so dug out the medised (the 2nd time we've used it).

Dh filled up the syringe... as soon as ds2 saw it he gave this big grin and unmistakably opened his mouth wide for it!!! He's now cooing at the ceiling again. Addict.

Good lord you people can talk!!!

I go away for 2 weeks and come back to millions of messages

How are you all doing? We're all fine and home in one piece from our holiday. I'm so glad to be home. Just going to say a quick Hi here then put dd1 to bed and I'll come back later. I've spent ages reading through all these messages.

But before I go I'll add my tuppence worth to what you've all been discussing.

DD2 is not in the process of being Weaned at the moment. Gave up trying before we went on holiday had tried her with some rice a few times but she didn't like it so we gave up and will try again in a few weeks.

DD2 is not rolling over yet, shows absolutely no interest in it.

DD2 still has no teeth. Lots of drooling and red cheeks but no teeth. We use Liquid Anbesol for teething much easier than gel I find.

And my last comment for the moment is...risking all my anonyminity(sp?) here....
Cat82, I also have a Kira but as you can see it's spelt differently from yours. Ours is a Persian spelling.

Will talk again later.

kbaby · 17/10/2004 20:47

Egypt, LOL at the medised. She had a slight sniffle last night and I was tempted to give medised but felt guilty so I didnt. Although she seems to like calpol and cries if I take it off her. What temp is the bedroom? DD's is about 18-20 and she has a babygro and 1tog sleeping bag, not sure if I need to put more layers on.

Georginaa Ive also been looking for the stickers and cant find any. Ive been using the avent ones that I had with the breast milk freezer bags.

Anyone know when I can start putting the food in freezer bags. Im sure ive read somewhere not until 6 months but the tupperware containers are taking up loads of freezer space.

Thank you everyone for the comments re the photos.

Spoke to our neighbour today who has a 5month old dd. I asked if she slept much during the day and her reply was 'not much about 1hr in am and 2hrs in pm' im lucky if we get 2hrs all day. And her dd sleeps all night

DD started 2 meals a day today, were following gf weaning guide. We had cube of carrot for dinner and then tea was 1cube baby rice 1 cube pear. The baby rice and pear is a hit. She got all excited once she had tasted it and started waving her arms and legs about and opened her mouth way before the spoon was anywhere near it. She cried when it was finished.
She had a poo today and 'oh my god' it was proper poo and trust the spray that the doctors gave me for my smell to have started working. I think I prefered it when I had no sense of smell

spots · 17/10/2004 20:55

Welcome back Linnet! Did you have fun? Hope you were warm enough...!

Well, I managed to get my 8 drawings done. 28 more to go...

It's been a busy old weekend for DD. She's been a bit crabby with DH but is just doing loads of new stuff. We just did a count and reckoned:: shouting, eating (today she really enjoyed avocado and cried when it was finished), bath kicks and crawling movements (she worked out that her arms aren't much use by her sides) all ratcheted up a notch since last week. (DH would like to add that she typed an e-mail but I'm not sure I'll give him that one). She's just so incredibly wriggly and strong. On trains she'll reach out for someone else's newspaper or nose before you know it. And when carrying her in the Wilkinet sometimes I jolt to a standstill. 'hum' I ponder, 'why have I jolted to a standstill?' - and it's because in passing she's grabbed the bloody clothes horse and is hanging on for dear life.

Your photos are lovely , kbaby and cat. Aren't they getting Huge? In Kiera's case, quite literally, as the picture opened up on massive scale so that her face more than filled the scree. DD on my lap smiled back at her.

By the way, before they all grow out of their Bumbos, has anyone tried taking them into the shower? DH has done this with DD to good effect; she's fascinated by the falling water.

Dum de dum... I feel I could get rather long winded and boring tonight.

I like Susi's version of Twiglett best!

Judd · 17/10/2004 20:58

Kbaby- why do you think you can't use freezer bags before 6 months? Is it a sterilisation issue? I've put all my icecubes straight into freezer bags right from the start (4 months) - never, ever thought to do any different. Did the same with DD as well.
DS is a lot better now, smiling loads again and just really jolly. No sign of rolling at all but sitting up is coming on a treat....and standing up is his Favourite Thing In The Whole World (besides his mummy of course!)

kbaby · 17/10/2004 21:14

Judd, yes i read it in either the gina or annabel book that all containers to store food in had to be sterile before 6 months and it said no freezer bags.
ah found it. In the gina book it says 'use ice cube trays and open freeze and put into sterile plastic box. non sterilised items eg freezer bags can be used from 6 months.

DD is grabbing anything at the mo also. She especially loves t shirts with logos on and there is no way I can eat or drink with her on my lap anymore as she tries to grab what im eating.
Hope everyone has a sleepful night
xx

Twiglett · 17/10/2004 21:16

but what germs can exist in freezer conditions?

and you can always use breast milk bags (they're pre-sterilised) if particularly worried

SusiS · 17/10/2004 21:25

i dont sterilese icecubetrays either! food gets frozen and boiled up again - who really could survive that

welcome back linnet! hope you had a fab time; not too cold!

...use syringe for medicine ... *thx georgina

well ds didn't have any time to show addiction to medised; he fell asleep 10min later!
but made me grin anyways to read it

kbaby: thumbs up to your reunion with smell - hope you enjoy!!!

judd: same here! standing standing standing! there is no sitting first; legs go straight and wooops standing! oh boy is his strong rolling eyes icon

linnet · 17/10/2004 21:55

ok, have time to talk now. We had a good holiday. Last weekend we had no water, due to leak so water had to be shut off. Then got up on Monday morning to come out of the house and the main road was all blocked off with a police cordon, firemen and gas men everywhere due to major gas leak. Smell of Gas was unbelievable. Was finally all fixed by Friday afternoon. Luckily we were walking everywhere or using the tube so it didn't really affect us and where our flat was we didn't need to be evacuated unlike the poor people in the flats facing onto the main Bayswater Road.

It was really cold, well I thought so anyway. Had to buy a scarf and gloves set, needed them anyway for winter. dd1 also got scarf, hat and gloves but again needed them anyway so that wasn't to bad. Got home last night and have found Scotland to be warmer then and today than it was in London, lol.

But we had fun, went to The Aquarium, Hamleys, Harrods, Natural Histoy museum, Museum of London, the play park in Kensington Gardens, father in laws flat is in Notting Hill so it's right across the road. Went to see the Diana Fountain as well, it was a lot smaller than it looks on TV. Trailed all the way up Oxford street to forbidden planet to find it had moved, aagghh but found where it had moved to so that was ok. Went to Carnaby Street where I got a pair of Doc Martens, first pair in about 7 years really wanted purple ones but got black so I can wear them to work. ate out loads, dd1 had a play date with a little girl we know down there. And all in all it was a great time. Just really wish we'd bought a sling. dd2 got fed up sitting in the pram all day so liked to be taken out and carried where she could see everything, would have been much easier if we'd had a sling to put her into. Oh and of course we went to Chessington World of Adventures which was Fab, had a really good time and because one of us always had to stay with dd2 it meant that dd1 got to go on the rides twice once with dh and once with me. Dd1 loves rollercoasters so trying to decided if I'm strong enough to survive a trip with both of them to FLorida next year to go to Disneyworld.

Back to reality tomorrow though with school starting again and dd2's last Men C jab. Going to read through my GF book tomorrow to see what she suggests for weaning. When we had dd2 at the clinic getting weighed before we went away the HV asked if she was taking solids well I said no she doesn't like them so we're waiting. She seemed a bit taken aback but theres plenty of time so I'm not worried. Granny is of course still worried that I'm starving dd2 by not giving her solids yet (enter rolling eye emoticon here) believe me I had to carry her yesterday she's not wasting away to nothing.

SusiS · 18/10/2004 08:30

good morning everybody!
we actually had a really good night! - fed him at 9 and ds cried out loud at 2.30 but i didn't even have to get out of bed (settled himself in a minute) - then again at 4.30; i did get out of bed though but halfway to his room he got quiet and i sneaked back into my bed! - then he woke up at 6.30!!!
good old medised
nose still blocked though but he got a good nights sleep

linnet: good to hear you had a great holiday!! don't you just love chessington? we went there loads - pre ds that is - well, sometimes we borrowed our goddaughters!

oh and i can't imagine you can "starve" a baby "quietly"!!! - they would deffinitly let us know if they were hungry

oh, i got that hipseat and it's just fab!!! he is still heavy (weighed him yday on our scales - 11kg!!) but no strain on my back anymore!!! could easily carry him when we went through diy shop (took us about 1 hour

kbaby · 18/10/2004 10:09

Glad you had a good hol Linnett.
Susi your night sounds fab.

DD was a terror last night. She went to bed fine at 8pm and I woke her at 11 for a feed. What a mistake that was, She fell asleep and I put her back in the cot but 10 mins later she was talking and laughing. After 1hrs she started crying. I left her hoping she would settle but she didnt so I tried to feed her but she wasnt hungry. DP took her back downstairs for a bit to try and get her back to sleep but it didnt work. I ended up having her in bed but she still kept grizzling. At about 1am I fed her and she fell asleep so I put her back in the cot. Then at 4am she woke up again for a feed and then woke at 7am. Im now very tired. Im sure the 4am waking is habit not hunger, as from 4am to 10am she didnt want feeding. That makes me think that she can go 6hrs in the morning without a feed so theres no reason why she cant at night.
I also cant beleive that shes stopped settling herself at night, normally she wouldve played and gone to sleep. Thats the 2nd time in a week now thats she played for 2hrs and then cried during the night.

cat82 · 18/10/2004 10:44

Manyana all

Blimey, i'm sorry but i've only skim read all the posts i missed ths weekend!!

Libb-Grrrr. Who the hell was CT? Don't listen, you are doing a fab job, and no one who matters (ie, the rest of us) thinks you were whinging abour childminder, and we all liked the sock story

Kbaby-poor you what a horrid night. I really hope it gets better for you soon. Try and put your feet up today hon.

Susi-i know about those hipseats aren't they wonderful?!

Welcome back linnet You have a Kira?! ooh! we were umming and ahhing about which spelling to use, but we liked that ours is irish and dp has an irish surname so it worked well. I'm kinda glad we have different spellings

Okay, i can't remember who mentioned the bumbo, but i bought one at the weekend and i LOVE it!! and so does Kiera! we had a lovely moment the other night where she and i just sat looking at each other giggling manicaly. I need moments like that at the moment...but i have to say the black cloud that seems to have been lingering is beginning to lift now. So far so good anyway. Georgina- I promise i will get back to you today, after i go into cambridge to collect kieras pictures! Perhaps we could arrange a meet up some time?

Hope everyone's okay.

xxxx

GeorginaA · 18/10/2004 11:19

cry ... I've just broken my glasses. Not baby relevant I know (except ds2 was underneath me feeding when I did it - fortunately it was a clean break and he didn't get showered in glass fragments), but what a bloody awful start to the day...

OP posts:
cat82 · 18/10/2004 11:27

Oh georgina poor you. I know how damn frustrating that is. When i ws pregnant and suffering morning sickness from hell, i ran to the loo bent over, and my bloody lense fell out-straight into the toilet bowl. I never saw it again!
Hope your day gets better!

xxx

spots · 18/10/2004 12:32

Quicky! Hello all! Poor G., glasses are so bloody expensive.

DD is having an experimental childmind. I said if she was really upset I'd be happy to pick her up in an hour. But it's been nearly two hours and I've heard nothing! Doesn't she MISS ME???

I do like the sound of the hip seats. Susi, a whole hour of one is pretty impressive; I thought they were just for short periods. (What are you DIY'ing?)

I know, I know, I should be working.

MrsDoolittle · 18/10/2004 12:44

You've just reminded me I need to get a new pair. I've been putting it off for ages, they're soo expensive.
I'm sure we're catching up
