Hi,

My ethnic background is Indian although I was born in the UK and work in the city & am looking to go back to work after maternity leave.

Any one out there with a similar background?

thanks guys! it is too good of you to remember! interview is tomorrow. will let u know how it goes.......but my god six steps!!!!!!!!! how sweet. you must be over the moon. i am gushing because dd has just abt achieved head control! today she had her second set of vaccinationsi hope what they say is true, that it really does hurt us more than them. i have to keep telling myself that it is for her own good. i am def. up for film this thursday. looking frwd to seeing you there ameli. sai hope have a hassle free trip to wembley.

ananyamum · 11/10/2005 15:15

what is going on with these sleepless babies btw? dd is the same. for the last few nights, like you. we are at the end of our tether! she hates the cot and will not fall asleep in it. ha ha to 'always put her in the cot awake' that has never worked in our house. the only trusty thing for us is boob. such bad habits!

Hello! Congrats on dd's head control Ananyamum!. The vaccinations are upsetting. DS used to look at me as if to say 'how could you do this to me?!' through his tears but he'd be fine after a few minutes.
Sleep was a bit better last night. just a bit!
Hope you guys are doing well.

ameli · 12/10/2005 10:38

hi u 2,

ahh congrats on head control. on the way to uni yesterday haider ali was really sick, the projectile vomiting type!went into class stinkin of puke, oh the joys of motherhood...but he better nw , bless.

ananyamum · 12/10/2005 16:38

hey, hope you two are doing well. so sorry to hear abt your ds, ameli. why was he vomiting? poor baby. hope he is better now. just had interview! it was ok, a little intimidating, but then when are interviews not? they will let me know tomorrow....so guess what? dd went to bed (and slept) at 8.45 pm!!!!!did the whole wind down, bath, feed, soft lights and soft music and she just fell asleep don't know how it happened, but more importantly don't know if it will ever happen again!!! will keep you up to date!! so will i get to see you guys at the movies tomorrow?

Sai · 12/10/2005 20:31

Yes projectile vomiting is v.unpleasant! Glad little one is better.
Got fingers crossed for you Ananyamum!(for job and sleep!)
I don't think I'll go to the film tomorrow as I have a whole load of things on.
If you guys are free on Fri or next week for a meet up, just text me and hopefully see you soon.

ameli · 13/10/2005 13:22

ananyamum, sorry once again that i couldnt make it! last night bubs was on the boob nearly all night. im sooo tired. How was the film? did u enjoy it.?

ananyamum · 14/10/2005 10:17

hey no worries, seeing as you guys weren't around, i got slack too and didn't end up going, primarily because the weather was awful. we stayed at home in the warmth and played on our play mat instead. you know i got the job the other day so now i feel like i only have another 3 months with my baby at home and i am already feeling guilty, so i am trying to fit in as much play time with dd as possible! in an ideal world i would not go back to work but i still hve exams to finish and the mortgage to pay! i almost feel like i have no choice i thought i would be happier having secured a job, but i just don't. anyway looking frwd to seeing your babies today...

ameli · 14/10/2005 21:41

Hi! Yes, thanks Ananyamum for your hospitality. It was really nice to see you all again and def do it again soon.
Haven't watched any tv tonight as ds has been a bit upset. I really think he must be teething. Poor bubs. You've seen how chilled out he is - he normally never cries but he's been quite tearful this evening. I've managed to get him back to sleep and dh has got the xbox on. typical! (but it gives me an excuse to come on here )Take care and have a good weekend you two!

ameli · 15/10/2005 17:25

hi sai,
tried the jerk chicken, it was nice, thanx for the idea.. hope lil one is better, have you put some teething gel on his gums? powder is meant too be good too, hope hes feeling better today, teething is so hard for them. mine use to like sucking ice cubes, supervised of course. good luck, amelix

ananyamum · 17/10/2005 18:46

hi ladies. how is everyone? ameli it is so great that you do so much cooking. i cook in abt 30 mins and cannot experiment anymore, i just cook whatever is quickest! jerk chicken and your previous menu all sound great! we're ok. dd almost rolled over yesterday when we were on web cam to kuwait so my parents and i all had collective heart attacks!! hope your ds s are good, and teething problems are settling. btw we were just saying how bad we fell abt hijacking this thread so anyone else out there pls feel free to join in!

Sai · 18/10/2005 15:44

Hi all! well the sleepless nights finally got to me. I was so run down yesterday that I could hardly move. Luckily, dh was off work but I thought what if he wasn't?? We mums can't afford to get sick! Especially when we don't have family nearby. Anyway, all better today.
Congrats on the rolling over Ananyamum and glad the dinner party went well Ameli. How did the aubergines turn out?
How are you guys? Do you want to meet up this week?

ameli · 18/10/2005 17:18

hi guys,

yes thank heavens for the dh's! how do lone parents do it , must be so hard? the aubergines turned out nice in the end, iwas worried there for a minute, masterchef i aint. Hope your babies are well, ananyamum, its so exciting when they roll over. There will be no stopping her now! Sai · 19/10/2005 11:01

Hi. This morning I have cleaned the kitchen, hoovered downstairs and stairs, done some ironing, got a wash done and showered! (as well as dressing and feeding bubs of course)How pleased am I??
Haven't got bubs any Eid clothes yet. Eid is going to be so rubbish for me as no one is around except my in laws and I don't want to spend the whole day with them! I'll go in the eve when dh comes home from work but its just me and bubs all day...

ameli · 19/10/2005 16:03

sai, you are a domestic goddess!! well done you have done all us mums proud, keep up the good work`!

Sai · 20/10/2005 08:57

Less of your cheek, young lady
This morning I have....had a cup of tea. And thats it. Am gonna sit on my butt and watch tv all day courtesy of another very sleepless night. Lovely idea but obviously ds will be needing care and attention at frequent intervals.
Ananyamum, where are you?? Hope you are well.

ameli · 20/10/2005 20:06

lol,

well enjoy it, u deserve a rest!

sophieR · 20/10/2005 22:02

Hi , i'm a british born pakistani living in wembley nw london , i always browse various threads but have never posted until now, i have boy/girl twins who are 1 yr old , it has been a really hectic year with not a moment to myself but they were long awaited and worth every minute. We do in typical asian style live in an extended family so my inlaws and my mum are also with us. Most of my friends dont live locally and i was working in the city until i went on maternity leave last year , so its been a bit difficult to meet other mums as getting out with the two to any toddler groups can be a logistical nightmare once naps and mealtimes are taken into account !!!grannies are a bit too old to babysit for long as well, although my husband is not too bad as long as he doesnt have to sort out their meals. At the moment the twins are taking it in turns to have coughs and colds and together with fasting we seem to up most of the night .....

Sai · 21/10/2005 10:10

Hi SophieR. Nice to meet you. I also work (used to work? not decided yet!)in the City. I am on mat leave til April so am still considering my options. Did you find it a difficult choice to make? So lovely that you have twin boy and girl but can imagine its v. hard work. I just about cope with the 1!
How's everyone else doing today? Hope the baby show is good, Ananyamum!

ameli · 21/10/2005 10:59

hi sophie

lovely to meet another asian mummy. Well it seems like you are doing a brilliant job with the twins, i bet they are gorgeous. I moan about struggling with one! im going back to work in january and my little boy will be one. Not sure about going back, but hey we need the money. Fasting and looking after the two must be really hard, do u get any sleep at all? Mine has decided he wants to wake up 4 times in the night, now it has gt to the stage that i literally cant sleep! But i shouldnt complain, u seem to be doing twice as much and surviving on hardly any sleep! chat soon x

ameli · 21/10/2005 11:01

hi sai and ananyamum,

hope you are both ok, sai hows bubs, sleeping any better?

Sai · 21/10/2005 11:09

Hi Ameli. No, bubs aint sleeping no better. He was having teething issues last night so am still with you in the no-sleep club. You have anything planned for the weekend? More dinner parties, perhaps??!
My husband is cooking me dinner tomorrow night. And dessert too! yum yum.
How are you for next week? I've invited Ananyamum and another girl for lunch on wed or thurs. Can you come?

ameli · 21/10/2005 12:47
