Ah, yes I could. Maybe I could take them with me and show them, asking for their opinion? Knickers all hanging up my arm like a dodgy watch salesman?

When I was a sales rep I used to have one customer who used to keep me talking for about 3 hours - including showing me pictures of his dog.

I had to sit through all this until finally he'd say - and what did you want to see me about today? - then was my chance to sell him something.

competitionwinningCOD · 20/09/2004 14:27

You have to ask open questions - no yes or no answers allowed.

littlemissbossy · 20/09/2004 14:31

well I haven't got a sweeper
do you think it would make me more popular at school if I had one?

tamum · 20/09/2004 14:32

Blimey ks, you must be at our school! I think we would get along famously- someone admired dd's poncho the other day and I started telling her about how difficult it is to do intarsia knitting in the round even though she doesn't knit

clairabelle · 20/09/2004 14:32

Absolutely or the oven cleaner suggestion would surely ensure entry to the inner circle.

competitionwinningCOD · 20/09/2004 14:32

I would tell t hem how I leave car doors open in the city centre and some woman tells me when I return to the car and then i thank them and drive off leavingt hepram parked outside the car

KS-dont you think that talking about the weather/school etc, has to happen because you know the other person will have that in common?
it would be really hard to have a good chat about books for instance because you dont even know what they other person likes (or if they like anything) but that doesnt mean the person not talking about books wouldnt like too. Sorry if this is a bit garbled
