yummy... I'm setting off now!!

jampot · 20/09/2004 16:10

haven't collected ds yet as he has after school club on mondays but did go earlier to pick dd up (saves having to fight for parking spaces). Managed to park on the road outside school then sat in my car daydreaming whilst a MAN parked his car right up to my bumper behind on double yellow lines ][ this close and then another MAN comes and parks his car ][ this close again in front over someone's drive. The fiery looks were being shot out in both directions then dd turns up with 2 of her new friends and they each get into the 2 cars

Maybe we could have a competition to see who goes the longest without human interaction in the
school playground?

Titania · 20/09/2004 16:15

lol lou!!!! be tough competition seeing as so many of us seem to be eligible!!!

StickyNote · 20/09/2004 16:17

Do any of your schools have class reps? I only ask because ds spent reception in the most unfriendly school (parents-wise) in the world where I only got to talk to two other mums all year (I'm not very brave which doesn't help). Ds has just moved to a different school and there they have class reps, so on day two, someone beetled up and introduced themselves as the rep, introduced me to some other mums and gave my ds a party invite (he's already had two - he only had one in the whole of last year ). IMO having a class rep is a great thing for helping those of us who are just not as chatty as Coddy.

Titania · 20/09/2004 16:19

oh scary...just checked in ds1s school bag....he has an ivitation to a party on saturday...NOW WHAT DO I DO?!!?

lou33 · 20/09/2004 16:23

I would still win titania

Let him go, but zoom in and out at the last possible moment.

No idea about class reps Sticyknote .

beachyhead · 20/09/2004 16:26

when I started at this school we went into year 1 so all the other mums and kids knew each other. On day 1, they all gathered round and said have you time for a coffee? and about 10 of us went out which was great. I got to ask all the new area questions like where is the dentist etc.... still v. friendly with all of them - doesn't feel like a clique, but it wasn't exactly hard to 'break' in. I guess if I had shunned them that first day and not gone along to anything, they may not have carried on trying to befriend me for ever (i'm not that marketable!!), but generally if you respond with a smile etc, don't most people want some human interaction even if it is inane chit chat.....

lou33 · 20/09/2004 16:27

I did get stopped by a woman in her car though, saying how much I look/sound like my sister.

StickyNote · 20/09/2004 16:29

Don't know if it's common or not - someone volunteers and collects all the kids' DOBs, addresses, phone nos and parent(s)'s names then types it up and gives it to everybody (makes asking someone for tea much easier if you're a complete coward like me - much happier phoning than accosting in the playground). They also appear to seek out new kids/parents and help them. Apparently some class reps also organise evening booze-ups which is much more like it IMO . SOunds like you all should volunteer...

clairabelle · 20/09/2004 16:32

I spoke to my friend re drink & pizza tonight
Said hello to two other mums & see you tomorrow to another one. Spent the first part of the morning at a reception mums coffee morning and then went to M&B group. Can I have a prize for the most interaction with other mums today

lou33 · 20/09/2004 16:33

I don't have the time. Ds1 has that sort of thing at his infant school, but I always lose the sheets. No idea about dd2's school though. I should have some clue seeing as dd1 went there, shouldn't !?!

competitionwinningCOD · 20/09/2004 17:08

Sorry, I've reread this thread and have totally missed the point - apologies.

jampot · 20/09/2004 17:18

well hactually I organised a get together last Xmas for teh year 6 mummies to Yellow River Cafe and then another "leaving" do at Cafe Rouge the day before our children left school - utter success as everyone was rolling drunk and we all swapped sex secrets. So I would very much like to win Social Events for Mummies, Entertainment & Nights-out (SEMEN) award

whymummy · 20/09/2004 17:19

fio2 · 20/09/2004 17:52

Frenchgirl · 20/09/2004 17:54

dd's school is full of nurses and ex nurses who don't need to work anymore......
is that classy enough whymummy???

StickyNote · 20/09/2004 17:54

whymummy, because I didn't realise it was a "chat" thread rather than an "advice" thread. No-one here is looking for advice, just a good chinwag about cliques.
