Depresive but not surprising...I'm dreading it...

iota · 20/09/2004 13:51

Maybe I'm pushy, but when ds1 started in Reception last yr, I just smiled and chatted to anyone who happened to be standing next to me. Some responded, some didn't.

This yr we're in a new queue, and so I'm busy chatting to anyone who happens to stand next to me again - usually it's exciting stuff about the weather.......

fio2 · 20/09/2004 13:51

cod one of my washing lines broke yesterday! I am going to have to climb up the pole and fix it, when it is not so windy!

Chandra · 20/09/2004 13:52

cod.. what?

competitionwinningCOD · 20/09/2004 13:52

OP posts:
competitionwinningCOD · 20/09/2004 13:52

tamum · 20/09/2004 13:54

Ours is like that too, coddy. Everyone always makes a big effort to include parents of children who started after the rest of them, it couldn't be less cliquey to be honest. We do talk about the children a bit, but more in terms of sharing concerns than hilarious anecdotes, and there's a complete mixture of single parents, married mothers and dads, SAHM and working parents.

I'd talk to you too Fio, I'm really sorry you've been caught up in something like this

competitionwinningCOD · 20/09/2004 13:54

yes
I even chat to a pole dancer!( I keep her well ay form the poles outside school)

jampot · 20/09/2004 13:55

Our playground is cliquey but I don;t want to be in any other clique than the one i'm in. Our clique has occurred as we have older children in the same year as each other so are therfore "old" parents and go back a long way. By the time our youngest have started school we already know the inner workings and personalities that make up the school. Invariably there were a lot of "first time mums" in our youngests' class and therefore they all stuck together. Now we have moved into the junior playground with our "babies" and have moved our eldest on, this adds a further "string to our school experience bow". I did spy a few wistful glances from the first time mums the other day obviously wanting to join our clique

Also just for amusement, the head once referred to us as "The Playground Mafia" and not in a good way

tamum · 20/09/2004 13:56

Do you compare notes?

iota · 20/09/2004 13:56

I even chat to a SAHD - perhaps the others think I'm after him

beachyhead · 20/09/2004 13:56

I think the women in the article sounds a bit sad - most of the time when you start talking to someone, how are you going to know if they have one child or 16!!!! I think she needs a hobby (isn't that what they always say!!)
