Bad WFH habits

Coffee4Queen · 08/10/2020 20:50

The past few months I have been napping during my lunch break. Every day for about 45 minutes. Once when I first started napping I overslept so now I set an alarm Blush

Twice a week I get an almond croissant from the coffee shop for breakfast.

I’ve gone from washing my hair 4 times a week to every 10 days.

What bad habits have you picked up?

Every time the server drags which is a billion times a day I play Animal Crossing on my phone.

FizzyPink · 08/10/2020 23:31

I have found my people! DP is horrified at what a slob I have turned into. I used to be a heels, dresses and full face of make up, gym every day type person. Now I...

  • Rarely leave the house during the week
  • Don’t even consider wearing anything without an elasticated waist
  • Don’t even wear make up for client calls
  • Nap from 1-1.59pm every day
  • Rarely remember to brush my teeth before lunchtime
  • Do endless personal admin during calls
  • Frequently prep dinner during work time so I have even more time each evening to laze around in front of Netflix Grin

My desk is in the spare room and while I've sat lay on the bed for the odd work phone call, I've not dared napping on shift yet.

May have to try it out next week on a quieter day.

Lavanderrose · 08/10/2020 23:33

Endless snacking, literally every 20 minutes!
And turning my self into quasimodo by working from the sofa or dining room table... My back is killing me.

Chickenwing · 08/10/2020 23:40

Ive became a fat smelly soap dodger in yesterdays clothes.

Can I ask all the skivers for advice..
My laptop logs off after 5 mins and shows me as "away" on teams. Ive tried to set to last longer but it doesnt work.... does anyone have tricks?

MsEllany · 08/10/2020 23:43

I spoke to a colleague yesterday who said he got up at 7 to be ready for work at 8?! What kind of madness is that?!

My bad habits are waking up at 845 to start at 9. Napping. Sometimes a lot. Not showering enough Blush or washing my hair. It's curly and honestly last week was the first time it's been greasy it had been that long. And knotty! Good grief. Procrastinating is my worst habit. It's not specific to WFH to be sure but it is worse.

My boss is such a git though you know, he'll duck every single meeting we have in a week, but the second I get up to do something non-work, legitimate things like have a wee, that's when he'll call. And then I sound like I'm making excuses when I really was having a wee!

Blush I resemble this remark Blush

Sickofcovidnow · 08/10/2020 23:45

Would I know if I had teams? Blush

FizzyPink · 08/10/2020 23:50

I have this too @Chickenwing It’s my laptop screen that logs out after 5 minutes which I’m sure must log me out of slack but changing the time it takes to snooze doesn’t seem to make a difference.
I wonder if the IT team have set everyone’s so that you can’t leave your laptop for more than 5 minutes

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 08/10/2020 23:51

Download it onto your phone. Then you can nip into Teams and check status and amend to available as often as you like.

Susannahmoody · 08/10/2020 23:54

Wearing the same pair of jeans for 3 days in a row

Hair washing pared back to twice a week

Doing lots less laundry - also shower less

Eating at home all the time - which does save money but is getting very tedious

Cam2020 · 08/10/2020 23:54

Getting up as late as possible - I've always been an early bird and used to be up at 5am every morning to get ready, do the nursery run and get into the office early but I really struggle to crawl out of my pit now.

Not having a bath or shower until my lunch break (even on nursery run days) and washing my hair less.

Getting hardly any exercise.

Snacking and generally pigging out.

Doing washing and other housework during work hours.

Things will be back to normal at some point, we might as well make the most of this! I never realised how busy and rushed life was until now. I do thrive under pressure and all this inactivity has got me feeling a bit meh, but some more balance would be good in the future.

Susannahmoody · 08/10/2020 23:55

Oh god yes Teams on your phone - always set to green

Download your work email onto your cell too - they won't realise you're really in Walmart

Susannahmoody · 08/10/2020 23:56

Oohhhh yes, getting up at 7.30am rather than 5.45am - bonus

Susannahmoody · 08/10/2020 23:58

Would I know if I had teams? blush

SomeHalfHumanCreatureThing · 09/10/2020 00:02

@SpikeyBaby

It makes me laugh when people moan about 'lack of productivity' when wfh.

I was far less productive schlepping into the office 5 days a week, getting sidetracked by colleagues constantly, embroiled in pointless small talk, being shattered all the time from the commute, wasting hours and hours in meetings.

Now I work longer, and harder, and more effectively. I just do it in yesterday's pants.

🙌
Susannahmoody · 09/10/2020 00:04

Ooh! And how nice will it be to wfh from the sofa with the Christmas lights on and a constant supply of coffee and mince pies!!!

^

On this note, I ALWAYS have the fake fire on Netflix on - and I've bought a rug for under my desk. Cosy.

And Dean Martin on Spotify? Bring it on suckers

Not actually starting on time...Still eating breakfast at 8.30 when I should be set up and logged in to my laptop at 8.30.

Taking extended lunch breaks (half an hour extending to a full hour)

BookSkark · 09/10/2020 00:12

If it's a no cameras meeting, I crochet my way through it. In my defence, that means I actually listen, whereas otherwise I try and do work at the same time and realise I've missed something at IU can't concentrate on both.

Still haven't worked it the ideal WFH outfit though. I need something that's neither jeans (too heavy) or leggings/joggers (have to do the school run, and looks too scruffy, given I'm clearly not going to the gym). Am seriously considering wearing work clothes just to mix it up!

You can get mouse jigglers on GitHub 🙈.

Figmentofimagination · 09/10/2020 00:13

I know how to change my screensaver time (locks my screen after 15 mins) and my skype status (inactive after 15 mins as well) but can't figure out how to amend teams.
However I do have it on my phone, so that's now sorted that out!
Also, yes it can be lunchtime before I clean my teeth, and whenever the system slows down I use that time to play on my phone/on MN.

NoProblem123 · 09/10/2020 00:15

Spending my 30 minute lunch break on a 2 hour beach ride.

I have these cuffed jersey trousers from simply be that are basically joggers masquerading as work trousers, perfect for nursery run + lounging comfortably (sometimes I even keep them on for bed when I’ve run out of pj bottoms Blush)

I keep falling asleep so had to switch to a standing deskBlush in my defence my ferritin is low
