Bad WFH habits

The past few months I have been napping during my lunch break. Every day for about 45 minutes. Once when I first started napping I overslept so now I set an alarm Blush

Twice a week I get an almond croissant from the coffee shop for breakfast.

I’ve gone from washing my hair 4 times a week to every 10 days.

What bad habits have you picked up?

My brother impressed me......he managed to break his pc monitor when he set up a full comptery set up on his fecking bed.

Yep, balanced on one of those table things on his bed.......all was going well until the lazy bastard spilt a cup of tea and the whole lot went flying. He's well known for being bone idle but I think he excelled himself this time. 🙄

Babyboomtastic · 09/10/2020 00:54

Ice cream for breakfast.

Sleeping in every day so my husband gets the kids up and does the childcare run (I'm usually up more with baby in the night).

Staying in my dressing gown all day.

Alternating 10 mins of work with 5 mins of chores (and I get more done as it keeps me awake).

Paint board games online

I'm finding I work in very intensive bursts followed by a couple of minutes looking at the internet then working intensively again. Being at home I have got out of the habit of working steadily or doing the 'quick look busy' thing.

There are far fewer distractions at home. My home office is cool, quiet and calm. There's no background hum of office chatter, PA fights over the air con.

I actually snack less at home as we dont have a stock of treats or biscuits. Neither DH or I have any willpower, if we had a packet of biscuits it would be gone in a day so we dont buy them. At the office there was a canteen and a chocolate machine both of which sent me 'come hither' subliminal messages.

@riotlady & @Susannahmoody

Cuffed jersey joggers and Christmas Dean Martin on Spotify- on it!!

How nice is it to listen to Spotify instead of listening to endless complaints and office politics.

ChocAuVin · 09/10/2020 07:34

Oh god, I thought I was alone with the infrequent WFH hair washing!

Fun fact #1: dry shampoo + Zoom is a forgiving mix

Fun Fact #2: my hair clearly likes my new slovenly ways

My garden is looking fabulous and all my cuttings have survived. Due to lots of ‘reading for wotk’ in the garden.

I always liked to doodle during meetings, but now our meetings are online and no-one can see me doodle I have taken to doodling little pictures of my colleagues Grin I don’t claim to be any good but it amuses me.

I’m also a daytime napper, or as I like to call it a “siesta” it has helped me be more productive.

Bad WFH habits
Dashel · 09/10/2020 08:12

I feel better for getting dressed so I’m always dressed by 8, although sometimes I start earlier and have taken one work video chat when my boss video called me at 7.15 in my pjs and a dressing gown, but so was he.

Hair is now straightened every other day due to Teams meeting
S on those days.

I struggle with the snacking issue and also have the tv or radio on for company and too much MN. I do work extra hours so I don’t feel bad for doing a little housework occasionally as otherwise I would never move and my back would ache.

I love getting washing done in the week and being able to use a slow cooker.

I think I’m more productive as I’m a chatterbox so I have fewer distractions and as I said, I do work longer hours as I feel bad I don’t have to commute.

Is anyone bother to claim the tax refund type thing for WFH?

Lurkingforawhile · 09/10/2020 08:18

@Dashel I think I’ll claim the tax relief. It’s over fifty quid a year I think, and our water bills are up already so hate to think abut gas bills!

MakeAPeaCry · 09/10/2020 08:19

Wireless headset = gamechanger.

I now "participate" in conference calls whilst lying down on the sofa. I have been dangerously close to dropping asleep mid-call a few times...

mum2jakie · 09/10/2020 08:24

My work is busier and harder than ever.

I started from day one with the 'poor WiFi connection' story which means I never put my camera on for meetings and don't brush my hair.

I will often nip off mid- meeting - toilet, making a cuppa etc. I also try and do housework at the same time as taking calls on my mobile, so end up scrubbing the toilet or loading the dishwasher, while talking to some bugger moaning away on the phone.

Belledan1 · 09/10/2020 08:45

Sometimes I check my work emails and teams messages my phone whilst watching tv in my bedroom lying on the bed. I do go back down to computer if need to deal with something.

Giggorata · 09/10/2020 08:49

I slouch about the house in leggings, saggy jumpers and a dressing gown on top, the new work outfit of the nation. When it gets colder, I will be adding fingerless gloves to the ensemble, and possibly my heated throw.
Same with the delayed teeth clean and washing. And the neglected, but happier, hair.
When we are having a camera meeting, I slosh on some mascara, so that I look less like a currant bun, dry shampoo my hair and check my top for crumbs or egg.
I have also developed a hot chocolate with fake Baileys habit, which isn't helping my waistline. It also means I'm drinking alcohol at 11am. 😳
On the plus side, I'm not time poor any more, no 40 mile daily drive to work, no parking place hassle and the dogs are happier.
A less stressed and rushed life.

Rewis · 09/10/2020 08:54
  • sex breaks instead if coffee breaks
-watching tv at lunch -wearing jammies till noon -getting up 2 min before work time
  • lunch in restaurants
PullAPi · 09/10/2020 08:57

Morning all. Just getting up now for my commute to the office sofa

IsAnybodyListening · 09/10/2020 09:01

I have a Teams call at 10:30 daily. It usually lasts 30 mins, I have stopped turning the camera on, so I quietly have a coffee and fag, then I carry laptop quietly back in to do my make-up. Don't know why I bother with the make-up, generally only been leaving the house once per week for the food shop!

PullAPi · 09/10/2020 09:01

Aaaaand I'm logged on.

PullAPi · 09/10/2020 09:01

I went on holiday just before the initial lockdown and my make-up is still in the clear plastic bag from the airport 🤣

JeanClaudeVanDammit · 09/10/2020 09:10

I’m so jealous of some of these, I still have to get up and do the nursery run at the beginning and end of every day and my work is busier than ever so not much time for skiving!

Sickofcovidnow · 09/10/2020 09:17

Dying at one of you drinking Baileys coffee at 11am while WFH.

You win!

IntermittentParps · 09/10/2020 09:21

Tea with cake and crisps twice a day for my elevenses and afternoon snack.

Not showering for a couple of days.

Same clothes several times, pulled off the back of a chair.

Chair dancing when a good song comes on the radio.

'lunch' being whatever I can grab from the fridge and eat standing there.

Thing is, I've worked at home for over a decade (freelance), so these are not even new habits.

SillyLittleBiscuit · 09/10/2020 09:24

I get dressed to walk the dog then stay in those clothes all day - no shower or hair wash despite several video calls a day.
No moving. I sometimes do as little as 1000 steps a day.

PullAPi · 09/10/2020 09:24

Ooo I love the Christmas time mentioned. Sitting with the tree having mince pies and a brew. And what is this fire place on Netflix???

I'll likely be working from home now until I go on maternity early next year. Don't know what I'd do back at the office, it would be a shock to the system that's for sure.

NancyBotwinBloom · 09/10/2020 09:29

I wear gym leggings and a v neck t shirt most days and it looks fine on teams calls.

I have blow dryed my hair once since March and I'm embracing the curls.

I have to wash it every other day to stop it getting tatty though.
