To have bought ds's teacher a giant kestrel?

I mean at least she won't get a duplicate and it make a change from 'best teacher' mugs?!

Asked ds what she liked - gardening apparently. DS's class is kestrel class so aha I thought. A little kestrel ornament for the garden. Except it is not little. No no. It is a gigantic genetically modified kestrel. Maybe she can put it at the bottom of the garden so it looks smaller?!

Silver I love you!

SilverLining17, your leap to immortality is complete. You were referenced in the Telegraph yesterday on p21 in Lauren Libbert's piece 'How getting and end-of-term gift for teacher became a parent trap'. May I offer you my hearty congratulations!

WhatchaMaCalllit · 14/07/2017 12:20

Is today the last day of school???

Sluttybartfast · 14/07/2017 12:50

I can't believe I only just discovered this. Has the teacher got Sir Kit yet??
If not, I demand a picture of him with his hat and monocle.

MadMags · 14/07/2017 13:45

The Telegraph!

As an aside: I can't believe journalists willingly put their names to these "articles". I'd be mortified.

SilverLining17 · 14/07/2017 23:15

I'm quite glad that the telegraph did not publish a photo! I suppose in the hierarchy of kestrel gifts that KofD would be at the top.

Kenneth the kestrel of Doom went into school today. Ds's teacher didn't seem THAT surprised to see him. Maybe she is a mumsnetter. I managed to wrap him up although his beak came through the bubble wrap and paper. She didn't seem to get any other kestrels...

She seemed quite pleased with him. She looked a little choked up but whether that was with joy or something else it's hard to say. Ds said KofD sat on the windowsill and judged the children all day. Dh is quite pleased he has gone out of our kitchen. He said he felt judged every time he loaded or unloaded the dishwasher. Personally I miss him. I feel like something is now missing from my life, there's a kestrel shaped hole in my heart.

Ds's teacher said she would take him home and put him in her garden but we shall see whether in September if he's still sat in the classroom, ready to frighten welcome the new intake of kestrels...

He's a falcon Maryz. Sorry to disappoint! I thought he was a hawk but apparently I got confused and that's not until year 6.

Ahh! I really want a KoD for my public facing office, it would make my life a lot easier

OP,

Maryz the Mary z, who hates early Xmas threads and is great with teen advice? Have not seen you on here for ages. Maybe I have been on the wrong threads. Hope you are well x BrewCake
OP Kenneth is an awesome present and someone in the staffroom will be a mumsnetter so doubly awesome as this is a gift of a thread.

Sluttybartfast · 15/07/2017 16:50

Kenneth clearly requires a mate at your house, which he will need to visit from time to time.

I'm gutted at the lack of mortarboard picture though.

Who can monitor teachers' online message boards for a 'A parent gave me a horrifying kestrel, WTF?' thread?

CiderwithBuda · 15/07/2017 17:00

Love this thread. Love the kestrel of doom.

But love more that it's brought Maryz out of hiding! Great to see you back. Actually thought of you on Thursday. I was buying a Christmas tree! Yes - in July. I thought you would be distinctly unimpressed. Much like DH. Esp as he was overseas on business and kept getting fraud alerts through on his phone as the website I was buying from were having problems.

Stillwaitingforsummer · 15/07/2017 17:16

I guess the teacher had read about the kestrel and guessed it would be for her.
