To have bought ds's teacher a giant kestrel?

I mean at least she won't get a duplicate and it make a change from 'best teacher' mugs?!

Asked ds what she liked - gardening apparently. DS's class is kestrel class so aha I thought. A little kestrel ornament for the garden. Except it is not little. No no. It is a gigantic genetically modified kestrel. Maybe she can put it at the bottom of the garden so it looks smaller?!

Definitely the best thread I've read in a while Grin

MrsHathaway · 06/07/2017 00:15

Well you clearly timed your return perfectly. Lovely to see you.

I think some kestrel pics in the consulting room as a start... maybe you could knock up some fake tickets/info for a falconry day with a kestrel bit highlighted...

Oooh, I wonder if anywhere lets you "adopt" a kestrel - you could display its picture & certificate. Or maybe you could fake a kestrel!adoption - perhaps one abroad to prevent anyone trying to get one themselves... 🤔

Would the mini!Dogwods be amendable to drawing some Charming Kestrel Pictures for display? Obviously clearly labelled as kestrels (the "of doom" optional...) so nobody can mistake them & the subliminal messaging is more effective...

Pupil bought me a kestrel, wwyd?

DeadDoorpost · 06/07/2017 01:42

This thread has cheered me up no end thank you.

Also, my nan would love a giant kestral. I may need to get one for her as a late bday present. And if not then for Christmas.

LornaMumsnet · 06/07/2017 08:22

Hi folks,

Thanks for the classics nominations!

We're sending this over to the hall of fame now.

Today I went on eBay for things for my class in the new year that were giraffe related. The possibilities are endless you are correct. Ill report back in 2 weeks in case one of my 7 years comes in with one of these.....

7 year olds**
Excuse typos. I'm tired, we've had a trip this week and reports in. I'm not functioning!

Stillwaitingforsummer · 06/07/2017 22:24

Do you think I could take the idea of renaming classes to slt? My class is called class 4. Very inventive.

SnowiestMountain · 06/07/2017 22:37

I'm not sure how I've missed this thread but he is INCREDIBLE!!!

ipswichwitch · 06/07/2017 22:43

It's awesome. I have a landmark birthday next month and just informed DH that the only thing that would make it bearable would be a Kestrel of Doom. He just looked at me like Hmm

KeiraKnightleyActsWithHerTeeth · 06/07/2017 22:45

Wa Hahahah it's like the fucking why bird.

Lots of giraffes, you say? Well I never...
Love the idea of a 7yo staggering in under one of those practically-life-size giraffes.
I once got a thank-you card from a Brownie saying I'm "the best giraffe ever". Definitely the shortest, I imagine, at 5'4" Grin

Push it as being about helping children to bond, creating a coherent & positive group identity, and a sense of pride in the school [community].

Stillwaitingforsummer · 06/07/2017 23:00

Lots of my friends are teachers. I wonder if any of them have a kestrel class?!

Shosha1 · 06/07/2017 23:20

silverlining please please tell me said teacher is at a tiny school in Wiltshire.

I so want to see you carry it in, if it is 😂

pollymere · 06/07/2017 23:26

It will take pride of place in their classroom. Great gift!

ZuzuMyLittleGingersnap · 07/07/2017 08:00

Stargirl,

That is quite marvellous!

SilverLining17 · 07/07/2017 08:06

I'm in the midlands.
I may as well say as I don't think anything is more outing than the arrival on the playground with KofD. I can hardly pop him in my handbag.

As a teacher I'd love that. And would love to hear the story of you thinking it was going to be smaller too. These are the gifts you remember.

PacificDogwod · 07/07/2017 08:34

There are giant giraffes, hippos, elephants and apes dotted about a town near by - the giraffe is the best but I can't post a picture as my kids are on it. So you'll have to make do with elephant and hippo Grin
NB These are not carriable as almost life-sized...

I am a teacher and I would love a giant mutant kestrel end of year gift!

My niece's school got to decorate a zebra for a similar thing. Though that one was zebra only. My niece somehow has two hand-prints on there when all the children were meant to have one Confused We assume it's because a staff-member got confused by someone else having used DN's full name & thus panicking she was being left out. Being non-verbal (& having v little sign language) she wouldn't really be able to tell them. I mean, she's pretty good at communicating things, but presumably the nuance of "um, I've already done this" vs "nope, no thank you, no zebra today" might be tough to discern.

I carried two giraffes up the steps at a train station for someone the other week. But they weren't life-sized.

SilverLining17 · 07/07/2017 16:11

We got last year's teacher an afternoon tea experience.
I bet this years teacher is hoping for similar. Won't she be surprised when she gets a giant kestrel instead?
