Hi

this is my first post but have lurked for sometime. My 3yo DS has lost his favourite stuffed dog tonight in Blackpool and I am putting a plea out there if anyone can help me! Its a very tatty looking, sorry well loved(!) dog and we dropped it near the south pier about 7pm-long search but no joy. I am devastated and feel so sorry for him-he sobbed all the way home-as did I. I hope someone can help us.

Any suggestions how we can make him feel better tomorrow? Thinking build a bear and obviously lots of hugs but if you have been in a similar situation any ideas are more than welcome.

Many thanks in advance
Balletpump

ps-if you saw me sobbing on Blackpool front and stopped to help thank you as well x

My youngest brother had a blue and white rabbit from Mothercare years and years ago called Baba. We moved to America and, on a visit back to England, he lost Baba. My parents went into Mothercare but they had stopped selling that rabbit a while ago. My mum begged the shop assistant to help us (my brother has Asperger's Syndrome so really not good with change/losing things) and the wonderful lady found us two dusty, scruffy Babas behind some boxes in the stockroom and gave them to us for free! My mum nearly cried.

My parents came back into the hotel room, triumphant with their prize and tucked one of the rabbits next to my brother (laid out flat on the bed with his head on his hands). He turned his head and looked at it. He sighed, got off the bed, picked it up and shoved it back in my mum's handbag saying "Don't. Want. It." My mum did cry.

I'd definitely go for the holiday/sending a replacement cover story. He'll know it's not the original.

Mals one has the wrong ears - sabrinas the wrong paws - they are all close but not exact, he will notice! Unless you do the visiting cousin.

Thanks again for all your links-they are all so close and give us a starting point to search. Yes post on FB-if it will help and find him. He looks very much like a jellycat but not giving up on the original just yet. Like the idea of local media!!!
You have all been so supportive tonight-both DH and I really thank you for this x (is sending a kiss allowed on mumsnet?!)

The Jellycat Rollo Mutt is similar to the Pickles but has plain coloured paws, not patched brown ones. The body still looks lighter in colour than the OP's one though ....

I really hope you find him tomorrow. Otherwise, i think the "gone on holiday, here's my cousin" version is a good idea.

ps the number of mentions they have had on this thread, i reckon Jellycat should send you a freebie anyway!! c'mon someone in Jellycat step up to the plate!

People are good, he'll turn up. Fingers crossed for you.

This has happened to us twice, he's always come back. DD wont sleep without her bunny. She tries to act all brave and says it's ok one of the other teddies can stand in and then she goes to bed sobbing. Heart breaking... We forgot to bring him to my parents once and DH had to DHL him over to us overnight. Bunny could tell some stories....

Damn, I'm sure its Jellycat though. Will have another search.

Perhaps OP could ring Jellycat and see if they can help?

I lost my rabbit when I was little. My mum told me e was helping the Easter bunny then she asked all her friends and relatives to send me postcards whenever they went on holiday. I believed it for years.

I had DD this year. Mum goes on holiday and DD receives a postcard signed by "mum's rabbit, helping the Easter bunny". I was so touched, I cried.

I thought my dd had one just like that but I've just checked and it's an M and S one. He's similar but he's paler and his patch is on the other eye, sorry Sad

It could easily pass as his cousin though. I'm sure dd would be happy to send him to you if he will help. Just let me know.

cakeismysaviour · 28/10/2011 23:40

yeah, mind you if it has been very loved the colour might have changed a lot from how it was originally?? Its hard to tell. :(

OP could perhaps tell her DS that the finder put him in the wash, trying to be helpful?

Looking at it, it looks like Jellycat scamp but with markings and longer ears. Will email them first thing monday morning. Cannot believe the lovely responses to this message-truly touched. Know its silly and I shouldn't be upset but its so hard not to be. DS asleep in our bed so best move him-fingers crossed for tomorrow x

Dot's one is very similar! Does anyone creative know whether it would be possible to dye a patch or something onto the eye?

My DS2 who was 2 at the time lost his favourite teddy, had it since he was a couple of days old. He lost him on a trip to the dentist in town. We only noticed when he got to the dentist and 'Mr Moo' wasnt with us. We went back up town and checked in all shops what we had being in, no luck.

I contacted my local paper to see if anyone had handed Mr Moo in to the offices in town. They came out to the house to do a story on it to reunite a little boy with his teddy. The day the paper came out he was found under a parked car on one of the streets we had being on. A women saw him and picked him up and put him on the wall, when she read the paper she went back to see if he was still there and took him home and washed him then contacted the paper. Mr Moo and Alfie were reunited by the end of the day.

Contact the local papers in Blackpool, fingers crossed they will be reunited.

I posted on MN about it and some lovely MNers offered to buy a replacement from Ebay, at the time i couldnt afford to pay double the amount that the teddy was going for at the time and a lovely MNers portofino bought it and had it delivered to us. :) Alfie knew he wasnt Mr Moo and didnt want to know but since the real Mr Moo was home he takes care of both teddies now and new Mr Moo is called Mr Moo 2. :)

Fingers crossed for you xx

Really hope you find him or a replacement - DS (6) lost his beloved Duncan Donkey in Spain when he was three and still talks about it now Sad. It really is so important to them, and not at all trivial.

If you're not able to find the original or source a replacement, add me to the list of people that DSDog is visiting, and I will happily send him a postcard from Norfolk Smile

I have the M&S version, but he is a golden colour with no eye patch. He has all his tags on & so looks brand new. You are welcome to him if you can't find the original.
I am sure someone could come up with a story about why he has changed colour or he could be a relative of the lost dog.
I will post some photo's of him tomorrow, I am in bed at the moment.
