Hi

this is my first post but have lurked for sometime. My 3yo DS has lost his favourite stuffed dog tonight in Blackpool and I am putting a plea out there if anyone can help me! Its a very tatty looking, sorry well loved(!) dog and we dropped it near the south pier about 7pm-long search but no joy. I am devastated and feel so sorry for him-he sobbed all the way home-as did I. I hope someone can help us.

Any suggestions how we can make him feel better tomorrow? Thinking build a bear and obviously lots of hugs but if you have been in a similar situation any ideas are more than welcome.

Many thanks in advance
Balletpump

ps-if you saw me sobbing on Blackpool front and stopped to help thank you as well x

DD2 has a giraffe. I even bought a spare. They don't make them any more. I saw one on eBay that sold for £50.

Post a pic or a link to something similar and you never know...

Can I send him a postcard from the dog on holiday? If you PM me your address I'll send him a postcard from London and a story about how he took the train from Blackpool.

That should tide you over for a few days until replacement dog can be sought.

If I can persuade my 7yo that Rabbity Woo was working in Florida and came home safely 3 months later with a special note from Mickey Mouse, then you can easily make up a story a 3YO would believe.
Get on eBay and chase it down sharpish.

Thank you for your lovely messages. Not sure we can get a replacement as he is 4 years old and bought in a sale but we have managed to get a couple of images if anyone can help us. I will try and post on blackpool link as well-thanks for that suggestion.

hiya patio x

DD2 has a duck. When she was about 18 months I got her out the car from the childminders and the duck wasnt there. "Dut gone" she told me all serious, with big eyes. My heart was breaking for her! It was the only think in her little life she placed any value on.

We were very lucky, my childminders lovely son who was about 10 at the time scoured the surrounding area and found it in the primary school grounds, god knows how it got there, she had it when i was putting her in the car, but what a reunion that was.

Lovely ideas about replacements from others.

Just for a laugh - when my cousins were small (both older than me) their goldfish died. My aunt couldnt get to the shop for a replacement so she cut one out of orange peel and put it on a high shelf! She used to stand on a chair and swirl the water so they could watch the fish move.

It turned out being so much easier than feeding and cleaning a real fish that various peel versions hung around for months...

My dd lost her puppy on last day of holiday in Sicily during the summer. I have never ever seen grief like it. The poor child was actually howling in her sleep. We got a replacement after a lot of work by dh. He placed an ad in the local paper(nutter) and when that gave no result we blew up old photos where we could read the tag, googled random guesses till we hit the jackpot and found an online German company that made them. We had to set up an account as a toy shop and buy ten of them but you should have seen her face when puppy came home Grin Grin it was amazing. And of course he looked years younger cause of his long holiday Grin

This is the closest I can find but I don't think it's exactly right is it?

Based on the photos, that is clearly a dog who likes his sunshine holidays and prone to popping off for one at a moment's notice.

I really hope the power of MN can help you!

I have posted a link to your photo to some friends who live in Blackpool and asked if they can go and have a look for you tomorrow when its light.

Not at all trivial. Poor you. My DD has a bunny that she has had since she was a baby. She is 9yo and would be devastated if bunny got lost.

You have outed your RL name when you linked to the pic of your dog, not sure if you mind that but wanted to let you know.

Would you like me to send your DS a postcard from Geneva "from" his dog? He could be doing a great world tour, maybe some other overseas MNetters could do the same?

I also have a friend in Blackpool and have sent her a photo in case she's in the area over the next few days. Fingers crossed!

We were at the South Pier tonight at that time - wish I had seen you and could have helped you search Sad

I totally sympathise as I know my 2 DS's would be devastated if they lost their blankies that they have had since birth.

Can't believe it would just disappear - whereabouts did you walk to and from? Was he carrying it and drop it?

Am desperately trying to think about what someone would do with an abandoned stuffed toy that they picked up.

There is this lovely book called TattyRatty which is all about a little girl who loses her favourite rabbit and how he has gone off on his adventures. It is a lovely lovely book and might help a little bit?

I am completely overwhelmed by all your messages. The one on ebay is very similar and I will investigate further-I could pass it off as he has been at a spa or something!!! He does look like the Dylan one from M&S-we have those as a back up but its not quite the same-he is cuddling one of those right now. I can't believe how upset I am by all of this-I blame Toy Story for this!!!

The material looks like it might be a jellycat toy, as does the large fabric nose, but I can't spot any similar on ebay.

I am sure there's a website somewhere for lost toys, to match up identical but no longer wanted ones with new homes who are desperate...

Report
rhondajean · 28/10/2011 22:44

Just a thought - could you buy a similar one - similar enough to be related but obviously not THE one? Then the original could send a letter saying he has gone off on a long adventure but in the meantime, his cousin X is in need of a good home and lots of care?

Report
JajasWjolef · 28/10/2011 22:45

I think that you would prop the toy up on a bollard or prominent place if you came across it, will be a torturous night for you but can you go back at first light to look?

I know this may sound a bit harsh, but I think possibly you should try not to cry too much in front of your little boy as it will only deepen his anguish.
