Hi

this is my first post but have lurked for sometime. My 3yo DS has lost his favourite stuffed dog tonight in Blackpool and I am putting a plea out there if anyone can help me! Its a very tatty looking, sorry well loved(!) dog and we dropped it near the south pier about 7pm-long search but no joy. I am devastated and feel so sorry for him-he sobbed all the way home-as did I. I hope someone can help us.

Any suggestions how we can make him feel better tomorrow? Thinking build a bear and obviously lots of hugs but if you have been in a similar situation any ideas are more than welcome.

Many thanks in advance
Balletpump

ps-if you saw me sobbing on Blackpool front and stopped to help thank you as well x

So sorry. Awful. I am working hard at making dd's favourite a toy I know is from mothercare so should be easy to replace if necessary. Hadn't crossed my mind might happen in five years time though when stock has changed.

OveranxiousUnderated · 28/10/2011 22:47

This thread has made me Sad I don't think it is trivial at all! I would be devastated if my DD lost her teddy (as would she!) and I really really hope that you somehow find him/find a suitable and convincing replica. Good luck. Smile

PelvicFlAAAAARGHOfSteel · 28/10/2011 22:49

I know it sounds a bit excessive but could you get in touch with the local paper (I live in a very limited news area so round here the newspaper had been known to feature lost pets and toys - before going bust completely!), I'm sure you could pay for an ad even if it's not a story. Also posters and ask in the shops, people do sometimes hand lost items in to the closest shop.

Good luck.

rhondajean · 28/10/2011 22:52

Ah we have the M and S one upstairs and Im sure DDs would have posted it to you if I told them the story.

On a lighter note - cos I think we are all sniffling here! - i wonder if ebay are puzzling about a sudden rush on stuffed dogs late Friday evening??

Rollergirl1 · 28/10/2011 22:52

He definitely looks like a Jellycat. Unfortunately they change the range all the time. My DS's bear was a Jellycat too but was discontinued.

Here is the Jellycat website. Can't see it on there. If you sent them the pics they might be able to tell you the name and then you could look on ebay?

RightUpMyRue · 28/10/2011 22:52

My DD lost her favourite doggy when she was approx 2-3. She has never forgotten the heartache, she's now 9 and still feels it now.

Is this it? It's a Jellycat one

balletpump · 28/10/2011 22:53

I know you are right Jajas-got a bit caught up in the moment. Sadly he was spotted on a bollard than moved-someone saw that-its his movements after that we can't trace.

Hi BalletPump, I live quite near B'pool and have friends there so I have put a note on my FB status, it's a long shot but you never know...... If I hear anything I will PM you. Good Luck!

rhondajean · 28/10/2011 22:56

I lost my monster finger puppet when i was 2. I am now 35 and still remember searching everywhere and the pain! DM was most bemused - it was one of the small rubber ones with the wavy arms, remember them?

nenevomito · 28/10/2011 22:56

better picture here If its the right one, can track down whether its still for sale anywhere

Joolyjoolyjoo · 28/10/2011 22:58

Definitely not trivial- poor ds Sad

My ds had "blue bear" from Mothercare. I was smug comfortable in the knowledge I could get anoter one if he got lost. He did get lost, and I got another 2! But Ds took one look at the new one and pronounced that that wasn't blue bear it was "an Uwun" Confused Persuaded him to take the Uwun to bed that night, Blue bear turned up 2 days later. Now he has to have Blue Bear AND Uwun to sleep at night. Rod for my own back and all that..

I remember aged 6 leaving my ted at our holiday hotel in France. My parents ended up driving 2 hours back for it and we missed our ferry, but I loved them sooo much for it (and I still have my ted, and sleep with him in my bed every night Blush)

Really hope your dog turns up. I'd definitely go back tomorrow if at all possible- I think most people finding something like this would realise its significance and prop it up somewhere. I found a pre-loved bear once and immediately felt horrible for the poor child who might have lost it.

Now thinking, might be a good idea to write a phone number on the label of these precious toys in future!

JajasWjolef · 28/10/2011 22:59

Oh lord, are you staying/living nearby? I would put pictures up on all the lamposts etc asap. Really feel for you.

Bogeymanface · 28/10/2011 23:01

OP, would you be ok with us all posting the link to the pics on our FB?

I can put it on mine (I am part of a big group with lots of other mums too, so they would be very sympathetic and helpful, they once tracked down a replacement for a 15 year old lost cuddly!)

EvianBaby · 28/10/2011 23:02

I love MN even more when I read threads like this [hsmile]

I can't be much help but this might give you a bit of hope... when my DNephew was three he lost his beloved dog. He was absolutely devastated. My sister realised the dog must have fallen out of his pushchair whilst my nephew was asleep. She searched and searched the town centre, asking in shops, re tracing her steps etc but didn't find him. DN was still upset at the weekend so my BIL decided to pop into town for another look (days later and with no real hope). Anyway, as they were walking my DN saw his dog, from a long distance, someone had found him and propped him up against some railings. [hgrin]

Don't lose hope yet, i'm sure no one would take a 'used' toy for themselves, if it's been found then maybe the person has done similar to the person that found DN's dog... hopefully!

I'm sure the power of MN will work wonders and find a replacement one in the meantime - it's great!

monkeywench · 28/10/2011 23:03

The one nene linked to is almost the same as the current Pickles Mutt Tiny - found it on my phone but I can't link, sorry! I think the OPs dog might be cream in the body rather than White, but very similar otherwise. Don't know if that might help anyone better at searching than me?!

JajasWjolef · 28/10/2011 23:03

Oh how I hope to log in tomorrow and find him found!

Should say it's the Jellycat Pickles Mutt Tiny!

slapmeonthepatio · 28/10/2011 23:05

Hi rhondajean :) !

I get really anxious about things like this. All of my DCs have special toys and I'm beside myself when one of them loses one. DS1 (3) accidentally left his at DD1's school over the weekend a while ago an DD2 ended up getting her giraffe locked in a cupboard at school. We ended up getting her teacher, a TA and 2 lunchtime supervisors hunting for him, before her teacher found him in the sports' cupboard. Do you remember the make of the dog balletpump?

rhondajean · 28/10/2011 23:06

Sorry its not the one I had, the nose is wrong.

malovitt · 28/10/2011 23:09

This is a not a bad match - just dunk him in a bowl of cold tea to get the same colouring....www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Fluffy-Dog-Soft-Toy-/130591991908?pt=UK_Soft_Toys_Bears&hash=item1e67e3a864#ht_982wt_1398
