I wondered if anyone out there would be interested in joining a thread for those who have recently experienced a miscarriage - a place to share how we’re feeling emotionally, physical recovery, becoming ready to try again (for those that want to), and hopefully one day positive stories of successful preganancies.

I’m 32 and recently had a miscarriage at 5-6 weeks of my first pregnancy. I was relieved to have conceived after quite a short time, because I have PCOS and was worried I might struggle to get pregnant.

My miscarriage was about 2 and half weeks ago now, and today is the first day I’ve not had any spotting/bleeding at all, and that has been a relief to feel like my body is moving on from it. I know it’s advisable to do a pregnancy test a few weeks after miscarriage, which is something I’m a bit anxious about doing as I’m fairly sure it will be an emotional thing to do.

Since it happened my sleep pattern and energy levels have been a bit all over the place. Some days I’ve just wanted to sleep all the time, which I think could be a mix of actual physical tiredness and also emotional tiredness/hormonal changes. I was back at work for the first time today, and it was helpful to have something else to focus on and motivate myself for.

I’ve restarted tracking my BBT to see what happens with my cycle returning, though I’m aware it could take a while to get back to normal. My husband and I are both on the same page that we’d like to try again once I’ve had one normal period, so I guess we’ll just see how things go and how we feel when we reach this point.

Sorry this has turned into a longer post than I expected! Anyway, if there’s anyone out there who’s had a similar experience recently and would like a place to share feelings/questions/advice it would be lovely to hear from others.

@TheBirdintheCave I’m bunking at yours 😂

@Chocolatebean Brilliant news about ovulation - Have everything crossed for you for this month! I do wonder with the OPKs if peak is a short amount time that I'll miss it, but hopefully will see some kind of trend progressing in the premom app.

@VillageFete Also very exciting news! I didn't realise you were going to Cyprus for treatment.. Is that a cost thing? Best of luck that everything goes smoothly and has the best outcome!

Chocolatebean · 24/03/2023 11:43

@VillageFete thank you for that so much what a lovely thing to say 😊, oh wow Cyprus, will you get to soak in some sunshine as well how wonderful I know it’s a hassle to get there but can’t think of a more lovely place to relax after you’ve had the transfer done. Just got everything crossed for you Arms and legs the lot it’s crossed ❤️.

Chocolatebean · 24/03/2023 13:18

@SMG1992 have u got the pre mom app and the ovulation tests, when u know ovulation is round about start testing a few days before do it 2 or 3 times a day. I had no idea when mine was going to be and if wasn’t for that test last night I’d have had no idea. I also use the clear blue smiley face flashy thing which has always totally correlated with the ovulation tests. Xxx the other fail safe is to just do it every couple of days and then u cover all bases but that’s easier said than done 😂 xxx

VillageFete · 24/03/2023 13:23

@SMG1992 Originally it was a cost things. I wanted full PGS testing to ensure genetically normal embryos. It’s included as standard there in the IVF price, plus the IVF meds are so cheap out there. PGS testing here in EXTORTIONATE! However, i’ve not had great luck so far and all the traveling has added up ££££ So i’d have probably been best staying here, but what’s done is done 😣

TheBirdintheCave · 24/03/2023 13:31

@VillageFete Yeah we ruled out genetic testing because of the price. It was an extra £1.5k 🤦🏻‍♀️

Chocolatebean · 24/03/2023 15:16

@VillageFete @TheBirdintheCave crikey that is expensive don’t blame you xxx

Chocolatebean · 24/03/2023 15:17

SMG1992 · 26/03/2023 16:45

Chocolatebean · 26/03/2023 18:43

Oh wow @SMG1992 thats brilliant time to look forwards and hope for good things to come, you are literally 2 days behind me so here’s to our 2ww. I’m not sure when @VillageFete is getting her transfer but it will be really soon. We can be 2ww buddies xxx

@SEAx I’m so sorry, so much of what you posted has resonated with me. You WILL get there, it just may take a little longer than you’d hoped.

A tip i’d give anyone is to start taking 200-400mg of Ubiquinol COQ10. It’s pricey but works wonders for egg quality. Us IVF’ers swear by it. Pricey, but worth it. The brands I recommend are Solgar (Sometimes on offer in Holland and Barrett) And also Life Extension- you have to buy online.

Vit D levels are also so important. If low, they can contribute to miscarriage. Ask your GP for a blood test and then supplement with Vit D high dose spray (Called Better You from Holland and Barrett)

@Chocolatebean How’s your throat love? You will ovulate, but it’ll be delayed. Antibiotics can actually be brilliant before conceiving! Clinics in Cyprus often prescribe them before the cycle to clear anything underlying up.

Also, i’d get the ball rolling with private tests now. I know it‘s costly but it’ll be money well spent for your peace of mind whilst waiting for that BFP x

@VillageFete thanks for the vitamin tips, really helpful. What is considered low vitamin D? I've been taking folic acid with vit D (400ug + 10ug, respectively) and am wondering now if I should be further topping up on vit D...

I've just had my second MMC in 6 months - third overall, including one about 5 years ago. I feel like I should be starting any new supplements ASAP so they hopefully have chance to take effect before we try again, which will be in a little while. I've been referred to the recurrent miscarriage clinic, but who knows how long it'll take to get seen... I was seeing a gynaecologist before, for my endo, who said that in most cases, regardless of what they find, they advise women struggling to maintain pregnancies to take 150mg aspirin and progesterone from early on. Is there anything else supplement-wise that I'm missing? For my last two pregnancies I took folic acid with vit D, vits E and C, and Omega 3.

Thank you 😊

Rabbitjungle1 · 27/03/2023 07:48

@VillageFete also, forgot to ask: I can't find any Ubiquinol COQ10 in doses higher than 100mg online or in H&B. Should I just be doubling up on capsules, daily? Thanks again.

VillageFete · 27/03/2023 13:09

@Rabbitjungle1 Around 100 nmol/L is perfect, but 75nmol/L will do. The Holland and Barrett spray gets levels up quickly.

Have you ever read “It starts with the egg”?

If not, I highly recommend it, it has everything in that you need.

Yes, they only seem to do 100mg tablets, I used to take 3 per day. Pricey, I know :(

In a nutshell I’d recommend Vit D, Ubiquinol, Folate (not folic acid - some people can’t process it, Folate is broken down already for you) The Zita West pregnancy vitamin has folate in and is a good all rounder.

I’d also recommend everyone have their TSH tested - You can do this via Medichecks. High TSH can contribute to miscarriage. Ideally we want it 2.5 and under. If it’s too high, a short course of Levothyroxine will sort it right out.

I’ve learned the hard way, but I wish we were told all this info as standard!
