I wondered if anyone out there would be interested in joining a thread for those who have recently experienced a miscarriage - a place to share how we’re feeling emotionally, physical recovery, becoming ready to try again (for those that want to), and hopefully one day positive stories of successful preganancies.

I’m 32 and recently had a miscarriage at 5-6 weeks of my first pregnancy. I was relieved to have conceived after quite a short time, because I have PCOS and was worried I might struggle to get pregnant.

My miscarriage was about 2 and half weeks ago now, and today is the first day I’ve not had any spotting/bleeding at all, and that has been a relief to feel like my body is moving on from it. I know it’s advisable to do a pregnancy test a few weeks after miscarriage, which is something I’m a bit anxious about doing as I’m fairly sure it will be an emotional thing to do.

Since it happened my sleep pattern and energy levels have been a bit all over the place. Some days I’ve just wanted to sleep all the time, which I think could be a mix of actual physical tiredness and also emotional tiredness/hormonal changes. I was back at work for the first time today, and it was helpful to have something else to focus on and motivate myself for.

I’ve restarted tracking my BBT to see what happens with my cycle returning, though I’m aware it could take a while to get back to normal. My husband and I are both on the same page that we’d like to try again once I’ve had one normal period, so I guess we’ll just see how things go and how we feel when we reach this point.

Sorry this has turned into a longer post than I expected! Anyway, if there’s anyone out there who’s had a similar experience recently and would like a place to share feelings/questions/advice it would be lovely to hear from others.

So I got this today. I’m 8 weeks post MMC and have just literally finished a heavy period. Perhaps it was actually an early chemical?
may tests got back to negative about 3 weeks ago.
im so confused! I only tested as something made me feel sick today which I found weird.
I called the doctor who gave me the midwife’s number but they’ve gone home.
ill try again tomorrow.
such mixed emotions right now but fairly sure this is just another trick my body is playing on me

That must be so confusing especially after just finishing a heavy period. Could you see if your GP would give you a blood test?

I'm keeping my fingers crossed for you 🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻

SMG1992 · 13/03/2023 19:11

@TheBirdintheCave @mollibu thanks for the crossed fingers. I’m so confused with this whole bloody thing!
I asked the gp for a blood test but they said call the midwife who had gone home.
I’ll call them in the morning, I need a blood test or a scan or something as if I’m not pregnant then something isn’t right.
im definitely not getting my hopes up.

Fairylight102 · 13/03/2023 19:34

@SMG1992 Omg I can’t imagine how confusing and stressful that must be for you. Fingers crossed you get some answers soon

Wow @SMG1992 that is really strange hopefully it’s a little miracle that held in through a heavy period but u need blood tests or something asap as it’s not fair to leave u waiting as u say if you’re not pregnant than what on earth is going on xxx
@VillageFete hey sweet just out my scan she had a mega good look spent ages on my scan for once it’s actually good news I have a tri something endometrium. It’s the right thickness for 8 dpo no sign of anything that shouldn’t be there in my womb thank god the weird growth thing has gone. My ovaries are looking good with lots of follicles. She says everything looks great and looks to be functioning the way it should obvs she can’t see if my womb lining gets thick enough or hormones etc but I’m goi g to take this little win and feel a bit happy xxx

SMG1992 · 13/03/2023 20:47

@Chocolatebean glad to hear your scan went well and that things are looking nice and healthy for you

I’ll push for a scan tomorrow- tempted to just call epu but I’ll give the midwife a go first

Chocolatebean · 13/03/2023 20:53

yeah scan and bloods would be brill, a scan depending how early may not show anything but bloods and then bloods 48 hours will show if your hcg is rising. Oh wow I hope so much it’s good news xxx got everything crossed xxx

SMG1992 · 13/03/2023 20:59

Thank you- I’m really not getting my hopes up though
my body really has been a mess the last couple of months so this just feels like another trick

VillageFete · 13/03/2023 23:47

@SMG1992 How many days past heavy period are you? This looks very positive!! Obviously you’ll need hcg bloods and take it from there, but everything crossed for you!

@Chocolatebean Amazing news!! So your lining was trilaminar then, which is exactly what we want before ovulation. I’m so pleased to hear this, it’s peace of mind! Can you remember your lining measurement? X

ThaiDye · 14/03/2023 05:36

@SMG1992 will you do another test today to see if it gets more positive/darker? I can imagine how confusing it must be, keeping my fingers crossed for you!

kookyelephant · 14/03/2023 06:27

@Chocolatebean lovely to hear your scan went well! And it feels like it's left you feeling more positive 💕

@SMG1992 fingers crossed for you I hope the epu are helpful! If not I agree take pregnancy tests every couple of days to see what happens to the line xx

Chocolatebean · 14/03/2023 07:55

Hi @VillageFete it was 4.4 just looked at the notes is that any good do you know she was it was fine I was 8 dpo my period just finished the day before it was a long drawn out period compared to the others which have been very slight xxx
what time is your scan got everything crossed xxx

SMG1992 · 14/03/2023 08:06

Thanks for all the well wishes - I took another test this morning and the line looks the same on the FRER ones and the CBs are saying "not pregnant".
I'm about 5 days post heavy period - although it came about 2 weeks early so what I'm wondering is maybe that was a chemical?
Either way I want to see it I can get an answer, my body has been such a wreck the last couple of months it doesn't seem to be settling down now 8 weeks post mmc so I just have a feeling that something isn't right.

If it was a chemical does anyone know if that would go on my records as a second miscarriage?

Chocolatebean · 14/03/2023 09:33

Got everything crossed for you @SMG1992 . I don’t know much about these things but wonder if it could have been twins and the heavy period was one as a chemical and the other one is still in there or somehow you got pregnant and it has managed to stay stuck through a heavy period. Just got everything crossed for you and hope you get an appt today as you must be in turmoil xxx

SMG1992 · 14/03/2023 09:52

@Chocolatebean Thanks so much I really appreciate it.
I have an appt tomorrow morning, back with the GP I really hope they can refer me to get a scan but does seem like a big waste of time having to go there in the first place.
EPU are treating it as a new pregnancy issue rather than still from my mc 8 weeks ago. I feel like I'm stuck in one of those nightmares where you can't escape.

Chocolatebean · 14/03/2023 11:05

@SMG1992 you would think they’d squeeze u in today wouldn’t you. With my mc I had to wait 2 weeks then go back and there’s been some growth so they made me wait another week and it was agony.
im no expert but I would think the quickest way to find out would be the blood test as you would know within 48 hours if hsg was Increasing and therefore new pregnancy ( got everything crossed it is a little super fighter) also the fact you felt sick and need to test is a good sign I would say.
have u any idea how far along you would be?
I only say about the twin thing as my grandma mum had a mc but then after all the bleeding etc she was still pregnant so the drs said she must have had twins miscarried one baby but the other held in and became my gran who is now 91 xxx

TheBirdintheCave · 14/03/2023 11:13

I finally had a temperature rise today thank god! I think it means I O'd on Sunday as that was my last dip and CM was turning to creamy yesterday.

Unfortunately, if that's the case, we only managed O-2 and O-4 so I don't think we're in with much of a chance 😭

Still from March 26th at least I'll have another chance and be back on course for IVF in April/May (even if it will be two weeks later now 🙄)

SMG1992 · 14/03/2023 12:30

@Chocolatebean because my hormones and periods have been so all over the show I don’t really know but would only be4 weeks I’d imagine
I just hope the gp doesn’t try and fob me off.
@TheBirdintheCave ovulatuon is a good sign that everything seems healthy though . fingers crossed for you

Ah so pleased it all went well for you!!

Vt86 · 14/03/2023 16:27

@SMG1992 Gosh, all sounds so confusing and stressful.

if you had bleeding but still potentially testing positive, is there a chance you could have or have had a subchorionic hematoma? This can happen in pregnancy and baby is still ok. Unfortunately, in my case it haemorrhaged at nearly 12 weeks and I lost the baby but mine was in a very unlucky position and usually people are ok even after a big bleed and the pregnancy will continue as normal. Keeping my fingers crossed for you.

Congrats @Atii!!

xx

Chocolatebean · 14/03/2023 16:59

@TheBirdintheCave hey you never know never say never there’s still a chance and you have your ivf coming up it’s so annoying ovulation isn’t more obvious isn’t bearing in mind the survival of the human race depends on it. xxx
@Atii congratulations what lovely news
@VillageFete how did you get on sweet ? Xxx
afm had my 1st session of accupuncture today really enjoyed it I hope it works xxx

SMG1992 · 14/03/2023 19:00

@Vt86 i have read about them so it is a possibility- hopefully I’ll see tomorrow it would be better news but that would make me feel even more anxious about being pregnant
@Atii that is such brilliant news! So very pleased for you!

Chocolatebean · 15/03/2023 11:02

@SMG1992 hey how are you feeling today any luck with your drs appt xxx

SMG1992 · 15/03/2023 11:32

@Chocolatebean Thank you for checking in. I've just been in the drs, the hospital wouldn't scan me - they want to wait a week for another test.
docs are giving me a blood test this afternoon and then another on Friday to compare so we will go from there. They want to test the HCG hormone and my haemoglbin as I had a lot of blood.
They seem to think it's likely to be another early MC rather than AF last week, I don't even know exactly when I would have ovulated so I'm just very confused. I don't think it is going to come back as good news. It makes a bit of sense why I was taking so long post MMC for my body to return to normality.

How are you doing today?

TheBirdintheCave · 15/03/2023 11:39

@SMG1992 It's good that they're doing your bloods. That's the easiest way to see what's going on in terms of HCG rising or falling.
