I'm starting a Follow on thread for Week 1 as we've been so busy chatting and supporting each other, while there is still space to link to it on the first thread Smile

B:Trout pate ,
L: rashers and mushroom salad
D: roast beef, gravy, roasted broccoli and celeriac chips.

prettybird · 18/04/2021 18:54

I've been nibbling at leftover mint, feta and courgette salad with no rocket Wink today. It's still nice the day after it was made Grin

ok. Funny question - what does Celeriac taste like?!

prettybird · 18/04/2021 18:58

Imho, not like celery, which I'm not keen on Confused

Not sure how to describe it. It's quite neutral, which is why it's so adaptable and can be used so many different ways: with cream, with cheese, roasted, fondant, mashed.... There's a sort of sharp nutty richness to it and maybe a hint of celery Wink

Confession I’m still on page 7 but I will catch up.

Iv done what I KNEW not to do and that was step on the scales. Before bc I have been slowly reducing carbs for a about 3 weeks (with an egg shaped mis step over Easter).

I have barely lost any weight over the best part of a month (1-2lb at best). In the past this has been the case and I do start to lose it eventually but it’s so disheartening.

Do any of you have any experience of having lost inches despite the scales not shifting. I have to believe I have made progress and the scales will catch up. The reason I didn’t want on the spreadsheet was because I know the stupid scale puts me in an awful headspace. I just got excited and thought I might see a big number.

I have a massive amount of weight to lose and haven’t got to a place where I could use a fitted piece of clothing to measure by as I live in floaty/stretchy!

Jellycatspyjamas · 18/04/2021 19:39

@Keeva2017 I’m losing inches at the moment but the scales aren’t moving (as of yesterday - I didn’t weigh after pizza gate). It’s worth buying something more structured in your size to measure fit against. It can be demoralising to not see the scales move but I know I’m eating much less, and more healthily so they’ll move on their own time.

Hopeislost · 18/04/2021 19:39

@Keeva2017 That 'misstep over Easter' is likely why you've not lost much. This woe is very unforgiving to cheating!

Do you have a tape measure? I would start by taking some basic measurements to track. I find that I lose inches first, before having a whoosh, but everybody's different.

Timetobuckup · 18/04/2021 19:41

I am going to have to add celeriac to my shopping list aren't I ? It seems like a popular choice. I have never had it , not sure why , I guess it is a food rut thing and it looks nobbly and weird

I have made a chicken tarragon thing tonight and it was delicious . I am really enjoying having to think more about my food and being a bit more inventive.
I also know to enjoy it now because I will probably get bored with it soon Grin

Jellycatspyjamas · 18/04/2021 19:48

Instead of roast chicken today I filled chicken thighs with garlic Boursin, wrapped them in Parma ham and baked - they were bloody lovely, lots of green veggies to complete the meal. I’ll be doing that again.

Keeva2017 · 18/04/2021 19:49

B Greek yog and coffee

L (not much but genuinely wasn’t hungry, boiled egg, celery, very small cube of cheese

D bc friendly roast dinner - beef, buttery cabbage, mashed swede

Throwing everything at it to keep motivation high. Need to do better with water but had a long drive today and was worried about needing the loo!

Keeva2017 · 18/04/2021 19:51

Thank you @Hopeislost and @Jellycatspyjamas both helpful comments. I am going to measure myself and if I drop about a size I have some dresses that are just too tight but not far off and to be in those in a months time would be a dream.

Nateismine · 18/04/2021 20:12

Please can I have some more advice about the amount of fat to eat....

Eg. Greek yogurt - best to add some cream or better not too

Sea bass fillet- will use Mayo to add fat but 1 tablespoon full or 2 or 5???

And also - what size portion of Greek yogurt do normal people eat? The pot suggests 100g but this looks tiny to meBlush

Otherwise this week has been all good, no cravings and I have never drink so much water in my life. Having to wee all the time is a bit stressful though. It's great having this thread for accountability. Thanks to the organisers.

PS A tip I heard on the radio for foolproof poached eggs. Boiled water into a bowl, add splash of vinegar, crack egg in, microwave on full for 1min. Works perfectly. Reuse water for 2nd egg.

cheeseisthebest · 18/04/2021 20:15

I'm reading but struggling to keep up comments, its even busier than last time!

Rayna37 · 18/04/2021 20:15

Just catching up and sharing today's food. 18 mile bike ride this morning, longest of the year so far, and saw plenty of lambs. Wore a very unforgiving cycle top aren't they all but it didn't feel too awful!

B: 3 egg omelette with cheese and mushrooms to set me up
A Babybel while out
L: very late due to biking so just celery, pate, bit of feta, olives and a couple of cherry toms; Greek yogurt.
D: roast lamb, Brussels, broccoli, a few carrots and spring greens which I'm a bit obsessed with right now and did just have a bit of regular gravy.

ListenLinda · 18/04/2021 20:18

@Keeva2017 oh yes most definately. On the last bootcamp, The scales didnt shift for me for a few weeks but during that 3-4 weeks my watch strap became so loose DH had to take a link out and I fit into a pair of jeans in the size below.
I’m as bad as anyone for focusing too much on the number but now I love the NSVs too!

Rayna37 · 18/04/2021 20:23

Nate on yogurt try to think about how much a normal individual fruit yogurt would be- I think 150g? Depends what your having it for eg if it's all your having for breakfast then you'll want more than if it's "pudding". I don't weigh but have little pots I decant into as I mostly have it at work after my lunch.

I'd say no need to add extra fat like cream into yoghurt or extra helpings of mayo often unless you keep finding you're hungry or you're conscious your protein is particularly lean and your day overall seems light in fat. Unless it's just butter then the more the merrier. However others wiser may disagree with me on this!

FusionChefGeoff · 18/04/2021 20:23

I've had a weird day today - was supporting a friend and we ended up having to unexpectedly sit in a park for some time to chat away from anyone listening in - which meant it was nearly 3pm before I could eat at all!!!

I was ravenous and threw whatever I could find down my neck but luckily I had lots of LC remnants in the fridge!

Have drank gallons of water and then a normal dinner but my heart palpitations are back which could be tiredness, electrolytes due to gallons of water and no food, or some sort of blood rush to digest quickly after unintentional fast??

Late lunch: 2 small almond cheese scones, small bit of leftover cauli cheese, some olives and feta, scag end of some chilli cheese, cucumber with hm tsatsiki. (Told you it was random!)

Dinner: aldi herby chicken kebab thingy (no time to cook as out so late so emergency freezer dinner - prob not 100% on plan due to marinade but hey), celeriac chips, hm coleslaw with celery, cabbage, grated celeriac

No where near enough veg but that's my first day in a looooooong time I've needed to say that so I'll cut myself some slack for that.

Keeva2017 · 18/04/2021 20:32

Thanks @ListenLinda that’s really heartening. Years ago I would drop a pound a day when I needed to and that wasn’t by starving myself. But last time I lost weight i like if list 3 stone and the scales only showed 1. It that was a much more gradual woe that this so thought maybe I’d see big numbers.

It’s ok though I don’t need to see big numbers just smaller clothes!!!

Random789 · 18/04/2021 20:34

I've got butter panic. The Bootcamp rules say butter is fine, so I deliberately put loads and loads in my mashed swede because I was really hungry and frightened of my hunger.

Now I can't believe that it was ok, that I haven't overeaten.

B: 100 grams greek yoghurt
L: mixed salald leaves with a weird improvised dressing of butter, camembert and vinegar.
D: Generous steak with pile of mashed buttery swede, with more greek yoghurt for pud.

Timetobuckup · 18/04/2021 20:39

@Random789 I did that a couple of days ago and I guess the truth will out when I weigh tomorrow. I think (hope) it is just bad habits from diets gone by making me panic.

I have never eaten as much cream and butter , however I have never gone a whole week without eating crisps and bread and sweets so I am hoping it will balance out.

BIWI · 18/04/2021 20:48

Don't be afeared of the butter!

BIWI · 18/04/2021 20:54

Getting ahead of myself, as tonight is a games night Chez BIWI - so here's the chat thread for week 2

@AthelstaneTheUnready I really hope that the link I've used works for the spreadsheet, but if not, please could you correct? TIA xxx

Jellycatspyjamas · 18/04/2021 21:00

@Timetobuckup I think once you understand the chemistry/biology behind low carving it takes some of the fear away. You don’t need to balance things out, eating fat (with low carbs) promotes fat burning and listening to your body and stopping eating when satisfied will take care of the risk of overeating.

I love that this way of eating really evens out my appetite so I’m not reaching for snacks and don’t need big meals, it’s a much better way than previously where I’d be going for crisps, biscuits, toast to keep me going. Now I often get to lunchtime before I want to eat anything much and by evening grazing has completely stopped. Even if the scales are moving slowly, I know it’s just a matter of time because I’m eating so much less, but more of the veggies etc that I need.

ouchmyfeet · 18/04/2021 21:27

@Keeva2017 I find my weight loss on bootcamp tends to be quite lumpy, so I can go 2-3 weeks and hardly lose anything then have a couple of weeks when I average 5-6lbs per week.

I also have a lot to lose (like a whole person!) so I don't really wear much structured clothing either. I have been taking regular photos and often see no change week to week and then a sudden jump, which quite often happens on the weeks I'm not really losing weight.

Hormones are definitely having an impact too. I've given up trying to predict it, but I think the key is to look at it over the long term/average trend. Renpho scales are brill for charting your weight automatically and showing you the downward trend.

FusionChefGeoff · 18/04/2021 21:54

@Keeva2017 when I was weighing daily (too dangerous - not any more!) my lowest weight in a week could often be 2 or 3 lbs lower than my weigh day weight (Sod's law it was rarely the other way round Grin- I now know there are soooo many things which make it fluctuate that until you have a few weeks to see if the overall trend is down, the actual number can be a red herring.

Does that make sense?
