I'm starting a Follow on thread for Week 1 as we've been so busy chatting and supporting each other, while there is still space to link to it on the first thread Smile

Try parsley.

NB: haven't tried it myself. I just remember reading it somewhere as a tip.

Hello! I’m fine! More later or tomorrow!

You’re all lovely and thanks for sending Bat Signal/PMs

I’m a dickhead because I forgot all about April Bootcamp and took a step away from Mumsnet to prepare myself for re-opening my studio to clients. But I missed this!!

Watching a Promising Young Woman on Sky now.

KOKO & WATER!!! Grin

Timetobuckup · 16/04/2021 20:15

@prettybird that sounds like my mouth will just taste of crappy parsley instead Grin

I am paranoid I have got stinky breath .

colouringindoors · 16/04/2021 20:16

Thanks. I've had a really tough week discovering more and more how my ds' school have totally failed him.

I'm not great at moderation either, though was improving this year eg drinking 2 or 3 nights a week instead of 6 🤔

blackbettybramblejam · 16/04/2021 20:20

Hi all thank you so much for all your posts, I’ve been so busy this week but have managed without any slip ups. Hope it shows on tbd scales on Monday!

Actually, come to think of it, the chewing parley advice that I read was how to deal with bad breath Wink But I presume it freshens your mouth too.

But if you don't like parsley, I can understand why you're not keen Wink

Brain dump coming up so feel free to ignore .

I have been thinking about the very very regular booze intake and have come to the conclusion it was all about me pressing the fuck it button. Once I had a drink I didnt have to think about the weight or looking after myself in a healthy way. Booze for me is generally accompanied with a bucket of crisps and other crap food. Now I want to eat properly and look after myself I am just not that arsed about the regular drinking.
I definitely will still drink but I feel that the most days drinking is a thing of the past.

I also know that week 1 motivation is a marvellous thing and this time next week I could be drinking all the gin and eating all the crisps but ........

MilesJuppIsMyBitch · 16/04/2021 20:31

Thanks for the new thread @prettybird

And welcome back @ShagMeRiggins !

Just had the butter chicken recipe posted on the last bootcamp (was that you prettybird?), but with prawn instead of chicken. Lush lush lush.

Unlike me, because I'm not drinking.

It's much easier this time round. I started bootcamp in January, and I found the sugar and booze cravings very hard going. They do fade Thanks

prettybird · 16/04/2021 20:36

Nope, the butter chicken wasn't me.

Just checking in on the new thread!
I'm being quiet because I'm fasting for Ramadan so not eating/drinking during the day! I have been sticking to low carb and find the high fat helps me to get through the day that bit easier!

Hope everyone is doing ok and drinking all the water!!

TheGoodShipObvious · 16/04/2021 21:01

Glad to see you back shag !

I’m not bothered by booze, but I feel similarly about junk food. If I were to allow myself one small chocolate bar tonight, tomorrow I would have a family size bar, a huge sharing bag of crisps, a pack of biscuits, and I’d buy a pack of yum yums to eat on the five minute drive home. Moderation not possible, abstaining is the way for me!

Today’s food:

  • eggs and spinach
  • couple of slices of cheese for lunch. Am falling in to the habit of skipping it, but then I snack later.
  • baked chicken and Mediterranean veg, popped some blue cheese in at the end, stirred it all together to serve. Really tasty, definitely going on the easy dinners list.
ListenLinda · 16/04/2021 21:01

Booze is an interesting one, I am envious of the people who can have one and stop.
I rarely drink in the house, small children usually make me want to have one but i cant be bothered by the time they are in bed.
But social drinking is a whole different ball game, I’m the ‘one for the road’ 3 drinks later.
Then I want all the pizza. And if I get a hangover, I suffer ALL day until I wake up again the following day. And I just want carbs and salt. It’s a definate trigger for me.

venusandmars · 16/04/2021 21:13

@Hotgotthetrots re going to the toilet / having a crap / a poo / a number 2 / whatever...

Don't be too hasty with the senna (or any other treatment). Although we're eating veg (hopefully FLGV) it has a lot less bulk and waste in it than bread, potatoes, beans, lentils... So you might be going less often, or have less 'mass' but unless you are straining or have really dry poo that hurts to pass, there isn't actually a problem. It's just your body developing a new rhythm.

On this way of eating my gut is generally much quieter, no gurgling, almost no farting.

Also I find that the food that really stimulates an urgent trip to the bathroom is SUGAR.

Andi2020 · 16/04/2021 21:18

This thread goes so quickly
Busy at work had a lot to read tonight
Finding it tough with no fruit snacking.

Oneborneverydecade · 16/04/2021 21:20

Woohoo for @ShagMeRiggins

Ramadan Mubarak @ZiggZagg

I am super chuffed that I just managed to run for 25 mins with no thoughts of stopping and I was still able to chat to DH in the final minutes. I didn't think that was possible when I started C25K in March

Orcagirl · 16/04/2021 21:21

Today’s food-

Didn’t have time for breakfast 😬
Lunch - mackerel salad
Tea- fajitas without the tortillas... my yummiest day yet! Filled up on the chicken, avocado, sour cream and cheese Grin

I did have a naughty red wine with my lunch tho as went out with my mum and sister for the first time in soooo long. Was worth it.

Random789 · 16/04/2021 21:25

Just posting my food today.

B: Half a cheese omlette (with rocket and mushroom) + 1 milkycoffee

L: The rest of the omlette chopped small and reheated with tuna, which I mixed with a bit of butter to make it not-dry

D: Lovely expensive steak, with salad and spinach leaves in an avocado dressing (1 avocado, garlic clove, lemon jiuce, vinegar and greek yoghurt.

Also a cup of no-milk cocoa.

I feel peckish tonight but not in a way that I can't handle.

FusionChefGeoff · 16/04/2021 21:34

@NotRightNowPlease - another sober alcoholic here!! ODAAT xx

The courgette frittata looks great and I particularly like the vocal pattern 'courgette ricotta and mint frittata'!! DH and I have just been riffing on it as a rap or trying to fit it into Kokomo by the Beach Boys Grin

After a killer work afternoon, Cathy whispered to me because, after all, you're not really in strict boot camp are you Fusion? You've already done 8 weeks so you could have a day off....and your going on a long run tomorrow so fish and chips without many chips wouldn't really be that bad....

BUT - be gone, Cathy, I exclaimed!! I know that there are delicious options that do not require your involvement!!

So, off she fucked and instead we had Indian takeaway so I had the tandoori chicken, lamb and salmon (even ate the pointless salad!) with a saag paneer and an experimental cauliflower bahjee (not one I will be repeating!)

Bang on plan AND a real treat AND I didn't have to cook AND I didn't even hear her (hardly) when she started whittering on about DHs peshwari naan Grin and it all remained on his plate.

CrispyChickenThighs · 16/04/2021 21:48

I've been reading through all week trying to catch up and finally get to the end so I could comment!

This has been so useful though! The bookmarks meant I could catch up faster, and the reminders of how to deal with low carb flu came in useful when I went dizzy at work and nearly flaked out in a corridor... quick salty drink and I was fine Smile

My food has been really repetitive as work suddenly got busy this week:
Breakfasts - buttery eggs.
Lunches - cheese with olives, gherkins and cucumber.
Dinners - tuna mayo with cheese and piles of courgette cooked in butter, Greek (style) yoghurt with cinnamon.
I need to do a proper shop and prep lunches in advance for next week!

OnceUponAMidnightBeery · 16/04/2021 21:48

@Oneborneverydecade nice going on the run!

@mrsomlette from the last thread, hard boiled eggs smooshed in soup are lush, they make it even creamier 😋 and add good stuff too! Game changer for me.

TMI alert 🚨 can I ask how others have found this diet affects peri menopause? I’ve had an on/off period for 5 weeks now (head banging wall emoji) but since BC it’s been heavier... so more normal iyswim - can I hope it will help with that as well as all the other good points?

Food and water wise doing good today. Not hungry but will eat a small dinner to keep fat and veg levels up. Carb flu under control with prettybirds (???apologies if not you!) salt and lemon drink.

Loving the pig and chick pics, please let them continue!

I read an article about a knackerman in the Guardian this week. It said that 'the general view is that a sheep’s main aim once in the world is to get out of it as fast as possible'. I had no idea sheep were so fragile tbh, are yours more hardy being in the Highlands? It was a difficult article to read

Yes, that's about right - sheep are basically a complicated set of stomachs on legs looking for new and interesting ways to die. When I first got sheep, my farmer friend lent me her copy of Diseases of Sheep (vet textbook, about £150 to buy, which is why I don't have one!). It runs to over 600 pages and a high proportion of its contents have no other symptom than 'sudden unexplained death'.

I have North Country Cheviot sheep, which are our local breed here and have been bred over the last 200-odd years since they were brought to this area to do very well on sparse hill ground, so they thrive here where other sheep would lose condition. That said, we tend to sell them on further south aged 5 or 6, where they'll go on to have lambs for another 5-ish years in fields with better grass. I do have one 12-year-old pottering about the place, but she's someone's old pet I promised a home for life to and she's not had lambs.

BrassicaBabe · 16/04/2021 22:09

@Oneborneverydecade don't even get me started on the ways sheep want to die. 🤦‍♀️ They don't have to be fragile. But one or two seem to fecking choose to be.

Thanks for the birthday messages. Roast beef, buttered cabbage and roast tenderstem here. 👍

cheeseisthebest · 16/04/2021 22:21

Just spent ages catching up.
Hugs for @ouchmyfeet it's worth reading the india Knight book, I'm reading it now and it talks a lot about how to deal with friends and family whilst doing this WOE.

cheeseisthebest · 16/04/2021 22:22

Belated happy birthday @Brassicababe !

Hotgotthetrots · 16/04/2021 22:39

Thanks @venusandmars . Sadly, the call of the senna proved too much and I necked 2 before reading your v wise words.
I did think is it because I am eating less (well, not less, but you know what I mean) and all good stuff that there is less waste and that perhaps I had got too used to certain foods helping things along. I was mainly concerned, tbh, that it was a case of too many eggs. Still, I shall wait 10 - 12 hours for the senna to work its magic. Sadly, my son has football training at 9, so hoping that it is nearer 10 than 12....
