Welcome to the January 2020 Low Carb Bootcamp. I know some of you have already started eating low carb so please share your good experiences to give the rest of us some inspiration as we begin our weight loss journey.

Make sure you’ve read the ten Low Carb Bootcamp rules. There are some shopping list and meal plan suggestions on the preparation thread.

If you need recipe inspirations then there we have hundreds on the meat recipes thread, the poultry recipes thread, and the vegetarian recipes thread. Note that vegetarians may include small quantities of legumes, nuts and Quorn right from the start to make sure they’re getting enough protein. There is also thread of low carb products people have found in the shops.

We weigh in every Monday so add your starting weight to the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness. If you’re on a mobile or tablet and can’t get the spreadsheet to work then please post your entry on this thread and someone will add it for you. Some people choose to record their starting weight as 100 if they don’t want to share their actual weight. I also urge you to make a note of your waist measurement as sometimes we can lose inches without losing pounds on this way of eating. Some people like to have a goal pair of jeans or a dress that they can try on throughout Bootcamp so see how the fit improves over time. Others like to take ‘before’ photos that they can use for comparison later on.

If you have any questions or concerns then please do ask. Bootcamp has been running for nearly ten years so we have lots of expertise to share with you.

Hurrah venusandmars your glasses story made me smile. I finally found my glasses under my bed, no recollection of taking them upstairs, as I keep another pair on my bedside table.
I suspect they were on the top of my head when I got into bed😀 very pleased as have been looking for them since Monday and had given up and decided that they must have been thrown out with the papers (but only had that thought after the recycling was collected)

Have had a good weekend and am telling myself that I must not succumb toSunday night snacking 😇 here’s to Monday’s first weigh in.

Rayna37 · 19/01/2020 20:36

VenusandMars that all sounds good! I'm actually struggling to source much so probably giving it a miss this week. DH knows a butcher so had a good chat last week and now has the hotline number to get hold of lambs kidneys and bones for broth which will probably be our next experiment.

I use Oxtail in a stew in the slow cooker. I rarely remember to make a note of the recipe and just google ideas each time. I have made great stews using ox cheek and oxtail recently (separately) that used mulled wine- great for using up those bottles that hang around from one Christmas to the next!

Rayna37 · 19/01/2020 20:39

www.jamieoliver.com/recipes/beef-recipes/insanely-good-oxtail-stew/ try this, swap some/all of the carrots for swede or turnip to decrease carb count.

I was really craving dessert last night but held strong and had a couple of bites of cheese and a cup of tea instead.

Busy day out with the kids today so lots of exercise. Took a packed lunch so didn't succumb to the lunchtime carb fest. Struggled with water again but pleased to hear some tea counts towards it. I think I've probably just made 3L in that case.

B poached eggs, bacon, hollandaise, spinach
L crudités and cheese dip
D roast chicken with skin, celeriac dauphinois and FLGV plus tiny bit of gravy

Think I need to cut down the dairy in the next couple of days and see if it boosts the weight loss. Actually looking forward to jumping on the scales in the morning! Shock

mrshoho · 19/01/2020 20:46

got through Sunday unscathed. I was hosting for 10 and stayed on bootcamp thanks to this thread.
dinner was slow cooker beef pot roast served with roasties, mashed pot, Yorkshire puds, broccoli, carrots and peas. I made myself a celeriac dauphinoise and had that with beef and broccoli. I just had a bit of cream for pud while everyone else had choc pots. And I stayed away from the wine too which was the hardest part. I feel so much better and no feelings of hunger at all.

Oh also stocked up on ackee to make my fave ackee and saltfish this week.

If anyone's not heard of ackee, it's a high fat, low carb Caribbean fruit which comes tinned in world food aisle of most supermarkets these days. When cooked it has the look and texture of scrambled eggs. Great stir fried with onions, peppers and any white fish for breakfast. Or use as you would scrambled eggs and top with avocado, smoked salmon etc.
Have attached pic with nutritional info.

Thanks all for the tips on toilet troubles. Didn't realise green tea couldn't be counted as water.
B. 2 x boiled eggs, mayo, coconut oil and butter
Snack. Corned beef (loved this)
L. 2 rashers, salad- cucumber, celery, lettuce mayo
D. Cauliflower broccoli gammon
Coffee with cream (omg delish)
Going to just have 2 x green tea from Monday onwards and up my water.

TheClitterati · 19/01/2020 22:08

@waspfig thanks for tip re ackee - I love it with salt fish too.

TheClitterati · 19/01/2020 22:10

I've spent all weekend looking for my lost keys and I've only just found them at 10 pm in the last place I looked obviously.

So very happy and relieved I'm not shelling out for new house and car keys. One of those silly things.

So stressful day but I did get a huge head start on the spring cleaning as I was looking for keys and I didn't emotionally or stress eats. I've felt ambivalent towards food all day.

Good luck with the way in tomorrow everyone

TheClitterati · 19/01/2020 22:46

@Notwatchingtvtoday good work finding your glasses. Finding stuff is great. Grin

Hi, hoping it's not too late to join @StuntNun and @AthelstaneTheUnready

I started on the 16th after measuring my waist at 98cm (I'm only 156cm tall on a good day!). I haven't weighed yet as my scales are unreliable but will do tomorrow.

Did LCHF back in 2004 and did really well but then just stopped. Since then have reached where I want to be twice, once with WW and once with calorie counting, but was always hungry. Anyway its been four days now and I'm less hungry than I've been for years which is great!

NumbersStation · 20/01/2020 00:01

I think I am going to be able to start tomorrow after being a bit lot sick.

If it is ok I don’t want to say my weight. I’m ashamed. Suffice to say 6 or 7 stone needs to go Sad

StuntNun · 20/01/2020 05:28

Welcome Optim it's never too late to start, these threads run continuously even when there isn't a Bootcamp on.

Sorry to hear you've been so poorly Numbers I hope you'll be able to join us today. There's no need to post your weight if you don't want to. Some people use a start weight of 100 and use that to track weight lost, or you can skip the spreadsheet entirely if you don't want to weigh in at all.

Everyone please move over to the Week 2 Low Carb Bootcamp chat thread and let us know how your first week went.

Ok. I fell off band wagon.
@StuntNun I know you told me so. I had two glasses of prosecco and all will power vanished along with the "it's my birthday! Why can't I have a chip!" And it all went down hill from there.

But that was Saturday. Pulled myself together on Sunday morning, and being very strict today. Am treating this as going back to day 1 of boot camp.

Argh! I was doing so well too...

venusandmars · 20/01/2020 18:51

@RobinHobb join us all on the week 2 bootcamp. Stuntnun put the link in the post before yours.

See you on the other side Grin
