Welcome to the January 2020 Low Carb Bootcamp. I know some of you have already started eating low carb so please share your good experiences to give the rest of us some inspiration as we begin our weight loss journey.

Make sure you’ve read the ten Low Carb Bootcamp rules. There are some shopping list and meal plan suggestions on the preparation thread.

If you need recipe inspirations then there we have hundreds on the meat recipes thread, the poultry recipes thread, and the vegetarian recipes thread. Note that vegetarians may include small quantities of legumes, nuts and Quorn right from the start to make sure they’re getting enough protein. There is also thread of low carb products people have found in the shops.

We weigh in every Monday so add your starting weight to the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness. If you’re on a mobile or tablet and can’t get the spreadsheet to work then please post your entry on this thread and someone will add it for you. Some people choose to record their starting weight as 100 if they don’t want to share their actual weight. I also urge you to make a note of your waist measurement as sometimes we can lose inches without losing pounds on this way of eating. Some people like to have a goal pair of jeans or a dress that they can try on throughout Bootcamp so see how the fit improves over time. Others like to take ‘before’ photos that they can use for comparison later on.

If you have any questions or concerns then please do ask. Bootcamp has been running for nearly ten years so we have lots of expertise to share with you.

Ended up with a cucumber salad, and the lady dropped the rice and doubled the chicken for me plus it came with a side of Thai pork scratchings. A bit of sugar in the dressing I think. Also about eleventy billion Thai chillis. It was AWESOME but I suspect I will be crying on the lav tomorrow Grin washed it down with sparkling water. I don't think I've blown it. Doubling down again in the morning Smile

Doilooklikeatourist · 17/01/2020 21:40

Feeling better ! Hurray ! sound dreadful and look like shit , so at least I’m getting sympathy now

Made loveLy roast chicken thighs , and DH thinks crispy chicken skin is poison , so I ate his portion too , of the skin , not the chicken

Had a fab veg stir fry , courgettes , leeks , mushrooms, spring greens and ... a carrot ( half each ) cooked in butter and olive oil , sea salt flakes and tons of black pepper ( or should that be lashings of black pepper ) anyway , it was delicious

DH had potato wedges with his

I’m buying the ready shredded greens ( £1-10 a bag in Tesco , serves 4 )
Just needs a swill under the tap , then is delicious steamed or stir fried

I've found that if I have a creamy coffee after my evening meal it takes away any cravings for sweet treats. I'm used to a pudding every night ( I know Blush ) and this has been a great way to stop. Even though we have a drawer full of biccies, I'm not tempted.
No idea why it works. But it does. LCHF witchcraft!

Notlostjustexploring · 17/01/2020 22:01

I managed to avoid free bacon rolls and pastries at work this morning, and then avoid the chocolate biscuits this afternoon.

The not eating last week due to illness helped, but my jeans are once again comfortable, which is definitely more pleasant!! And I'm feeling quite zen. I don't think I fully appreciate how anxious and irritable I get eating loads of sugar, until I'm not eating it!!

Had salad for dinner tonight. On a Friday. Instead of takeaway. Might be the first time that has happened in quite some time!!

Good luck for the weekend everyone!!!

Harveywoo · 17/01/2020 22:34

B: avocado with chicken mayo
L: FLGV and spicy chicken with butter and coconut oil
Snack a cheeky pepperami
D yesterday’s leftover cream and lemon turkey mince on mushrooms, courgette and turnip. Yummy!
First day working at home since start of bootcamp and for literally the first time ever I avoided the cupboard booby trapped with fudge, chocs and crisps (most leftover still from Christmas). I’m finding I’m having less snack-attack urges than I have in literally decades. It’s a relief! Have a happy weekend all

Harveywoo · 17/01/2020 22:45

Oh and I’ve bought the mother of all water bottles to keep me on track. Behold the behemoth....

Just caught up with the thread. I was working from home today and forgot to drink as much water as I should.

Food was
B - creamy coffee and scrambled eggs made with butter

Lunch more creamy coffee and a couple of bags of pork crackling
(I was going to make something but my son had been sick at school so I had to collect him just after 12 so I forgot about eating until later!)

Dinner chicken with celery, leek, mushroom in a creamy sauce made with meat juices from roast lamb and chicken and sour cream

StuntNun · 18/01/2020 07:20

Right everyone, let's stay on track over the weekend. To fail to plan is to plan to fail so list out your meal plan for the day for me. I'm having...
B: extra buttery scrambled eggs with crispy bacon bits
L: cheese burgers (no bun obvs) with salad and homemade vinaigrette
D: Sous Vide lamb shoulder with FGLV
Water water water

I'm in London for the weekend so hotel breakfast to start. I'm assuming eggs, coffee and veg.
I have nuts and pork crackling in my bag for emergencies.
We're going to a curry house for dinner, but I find restaurants ok. Extra veg, no rice.

HouseTornado · 18/01/2020 07:32

Morning!

Lunch out but menu carefully scrutinised by people here, so I know what I'm having!

BF: Scarmbled eggs
L: Cod with poached egg and kale
D: Cold meats and salad but probably won't be hungry

Will try to drink water but out and about all day so a bit tricky! Will down a litre before I go and another litre on the train.

Happy Saturday!

TerpsichoreanMuse · 18/01/2020 07:41

I started late and ended up with a small wobble in the form of some of the chips that came with my steak when eating out. Next time will definitely do the salad swap.

Also keeping on with the booze (just dry wine) as DH and I having is glass together at the end of a long lonely day (I'm retired, he's not) is quite necessary, I get depressed without. A problem I know but not going to try two things at once.

On the plus side I'm doing CrossFit and those WOE goes well with it. Had a gorgeous chicken livers in garlic & cream lunch on spinach after two sessions this week. Highly recommend more liver in your diet, it's full of vitamins.

Last night we tried the Lo-Dough pizza and was a great success. Will buy more and possibly use for wraps for lunch as a break from the salads I normally have when not inhaling chicken livers.

This Sat we are away for the night but have a meal in a fairly game based restaurant booked so I should be fine. Sunday I have a craving for cauliflower cheese at the moment.

Rayna37 · 18/01/2020 08:23

3lbs down so which I'll be happy to hang on to by Monday.

I have a plan but also some obstacles in the shape of visiting familywho were meant to come before bootcamp so need to focus.

As a long term low-carber I tend to have two meals on a Saturday:
B: coffee with the top of the milk, before parkrun
Late breakfast/early lunch: eggs of some kind, possibly bacon, mushrooms etc
D: eating out, restaurant looks fantastic so just need to make good choices. Driving so no wine.
I have celery and pate in if I want a snack

I have a water bottle with me to drink on the way back from parkrun so making positive steps!

SayrraT · 18/01/2020 08:36

I've been up early and at work so I'm just planning the rest of my day.

1st B: three eggs in a cup with butter, coffee with cream

Work then muck out and ride (now)

2nd B: fry up? With OH when I get home

D: tbc will consult the recipe threads and decide.

Have a good weekend everyone and don't fuck it up so early into bootcamp. Stay strong, it's only 2 days. You can go without carbs for these two days then you'll be closer to this WOE being a habit that you don't even need to think about.

Rshard · 18/01/2020 08:41

I somehow find it harder to drink all my water at the weekend, so that’s my goal. No breakfast yet as at swimming with dd since 5:30 so will eat when we get home.

SayrraT · 18/01/2020 08:50

I'm the same rshard so I try to drink a big glass in the morning and when I have a coffee. I think it's because I'm out and about more at the weekend especially if I go out for a couple of hours on my horse. I don't take water with me whereas at work I'd definitely not go thst long without a drink.

TheClitterati · 18/01/2020 09:08

Plan:
B butter fried eggs & creamy coffee.
L huge salad, Parmesan, olive oil dressing.
D pork belly & FTGV - going to get the pork marinating now.

Despite small longings for my old weekend sourdough loaf, I'm not worried about food - it's getting enough water I need to focus on.

MsAwesomeDragon · 18/01/2020 09:15

I'm planning
B: fry up bacon eggs mushrooms
L: possibly soup
D: I'm going to attempt a low carb lasagne from the recipe thread. I'll have to make one low carb and one with the pasta because dh wants a real lasagne. We'll see how it turns out. Hopefully I'll have plenty to freeze for lazy days.

I have plenty of snack type pepperami and babybel available for between meals, and might boil a few eggs to nibble over the next few days.
I didn't cheat last night, even though I was very tempted as dh and dd sat munching crisps and sweets (Friday night is movie might in our house). I had cucumber sticks instead which gave me the crunch I wanted, but I do need to find an alternative and I don't like pork scratchings like so many of you do.

mrshoho · 18/01/2020 09:20

dreaded carb flu this morning. My body aches and also got the shakes. I've done bootcamp before so I know it's just temporary and will get through it. My poor body is in shock as was really overdoing the carbs over christmas and new year so have gone from probably 800g a day to less than 20g.

I know this woe suits me but I struggle with breakfast as I can't eat eggs. This week I've just stuck to creamy coffees for now. Lunch and dinners are fine as lots of meat and veg.

Stegasaurusmum · 18/01/2020 09:33

I'm out all day so going to have a big breakfast now and just take some boiled eggs and cold meat whilst the family have sandwiches etc.
Friend coming over later, wants to get a takeaway, Indian.. No idea what I can have! Any suggestions?

DiscontentedWoman · 18/01/2020 09:52

How about a shashlick and a big portion of raita? Stegasaurusmum

Doilooklikeatourist · 18/01/2020 09:52

B buttery scrambled eggs
L cauli , celeriac , leek and courgette soup
D Chicken alfredo
It’s on the recipe thread , and it’s lovely

Weather is stunning at the moment , cold and crisp , I finish work around 4 ands hope to get a walk round block , if possible before it gets dark

Have a good Saturday
Water , water, water 💧

DiscontentedWoman · 18/01/2020 09:54

Or a chicken saag feels like it could be low carb. All that lovely ghee and spinach...

Mimosa1 · 18/01/2020 09:59

Morning everyone, I struggle with water too. I'll download the waterlogged app and see if that helps !

On the topic of self care, I've gone a bit mad in the sales. If the clothes get too small, GOOD, but in the meantime, I really needed to feel more polished, especially at work, and it's belong with the "oh f**k it" feeling when I haven't been feeling my best lately. I hadn't bought any clothes for a gear before that, and have a new more corporate job so it needed to be done. I can tell it's making a difference rather than waiting for "one day"

Rayna37 · 18/01/2020 10:04

Stegosaurusmum Indian's good, just order a veggie side dish instead of rice/naan. Even better though, make your own! Butter Chicken, saag paneer, onion barjias from the IPD- plenty on the recipe thread!

Stegasaurusmum · 18/01/2020 10:19

Mmm shashlick..

Sold.

I have barely been eating, just stress and stuff at home this week, but feeling like I could get my appetite back tonight.

Weight is still steadily going down, I'm delighted!

Trying to be active every day, for my mental health more than anything. Yoga, bit if running, today will try to walk lots. Have to remember my water bottle, at work I'm really good at drinking loads, but weekends and evenings not so much.
