Jan ’20 – Week 1 Low Carb Bootcamp – Here we go!

StuntNun · 13/01/2020 05:56

Welcome to the January 2020 Low Carb Bootcamp. I know some of you have already started eating low carb so please share your good experiences to give the rest of us some inspiration as we begin our weight loss journey.

Make sure you’ve read the ten Low Carb Bootcamp rules. There are some shopping list and meal plan suggestions on the preparation thread.

If you need recipe inspirations then there we have hundreds on the meat recipes thread, the poultry recipes thread, and the vegetarian recipes thread. Note that vegetarians may include small quantities of legumes, nuts and Quorn right from the start to make sure they’re getting enough protein. There is also thread of low carb products people have found in the shops.

We weigh in every Monday so add your starting weight to the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness. If you’re on a mobile or tablet and can’t get the spreadsheet to work then please post your entry on this thread and someone will add it for you. Some people choose to record their starting weight as 100 if they don’t want to share their actual weight. I also urge you to make a note of your waist measurement as sometimes we can lose inches without losing pounds on this way of eating. Some people like to have a goal pair of jeans or a dress that they can try on throughout Bootcamp so see how the fit improves over time. Others like to take ‘before’ photos that they can use for comparison later on.

If you have any questions or concerns then please do ask. Bootcamp has been running for nearly ten years so we have lots of expertise to share with you.

Well having been gloomy at my start weight, I looked back and realised it's a stone below my first boot camp start weight, and a half pound below my second, so, progress! Positivity! Nice slice of gouda and a cup of black tea!

Downwards!

StuntNun · 13/01/2020 07:33

Public Service Announcement: it's not just water weight! It's not uncommon to lose several pounds during the first week of Bootcamp. It doesn't happen to everyone, and some unlucky individuals even gain weight before the scales start dropping - extremely frustrating but also totally normal and nothing to worry about so long as you've been following the rules.

If you lose 5lb in week one then this is approximately 1lb of glycogen from the stores in your liver and 3lb of "water weight" which is actually water that has to be stored along with the glycogen. So although it's sometimes written off as "just water loss" you won't regain that water weight while eating low carb. The last pound is fat loss and it's the dangerous visceral fat around the organs that's first to be lost on this way of eating. So that pound of fat loss is straight off your waist hello slimmer silhouette and off your risk for diseases such as high blood pressure hello healthier life!

Woo! Thanks stunt Grin when you’re massive, you expect it to take at least a couple of stone off before it’s visible to others, but my face has already started looking less swollen and obviously the belt says there’s a bit of change on my waist too Grin

Very exciting!

I'm weighed, logged and ready to lose some serious pounds! I'm going to take a pic later of me in my swimming costume (so I can remember why I'm doing this).

I've been booze free for 16 days now so feel more than ready to LC without those sugar cravings telling me to just have one drink.

Good luck everyone, looking forward to reading all the posts and recipes.

Hagbeth · 13/01/2020 07:41

@Teapotdespot Just a warning about coleslaw - it usually have a lot of sugar. m.fatsecret.co.uk/calories-nutrition/nandos/coleslaw-(regular)/1-serving

Morning all! Good luck to us all, may we all be massive losers.
Having lost almost 1 1/2 stone just before Christmas, I am BACK. Ideally I'd like another stone off, but if its slower for me this time, then that's cool as well. Sort of. Wink
I also managed another 2 lbs off over Christmas despite having my period.

Ok, so my start weight is...
12.1 st, 169 lbs or 76.8 kilos. 😱Blush

My menu plan for today is;
B. Tea with a drop of lactose free milk, a cold low carb sausage or two.
D. Lime & coconut chicken curry and spinach
T. Broccoli and stilton soup with smoked salmon.

I'll also have a decaff bulletproof coffee and 4 litres of water, and if I want a snack, I have another sausage and I'm getting some meatsters from aldi. There's also cheese, which I need to limit and I'll have celery sticks and pate to choose from if I feel the need. I shouldn't though, as I never really stopped low carbing over the holidays.

Lionsleepstonight · 13/01/2020 07:49

Morning all!

Ready for my first attempt at no carb. Could my weight be added please. 186lb.

Creamy coffee and Scrambled eggs so far. Loved it.

Good move HouseTornado. It can be hard to take a before photo if you're unhappy about your weight but we lose weight from all over our bodies and comparing before and after photos is the best way to see how much your figure has changed. When I lost weight I had to have my watch straps adjusted as they were all too big. I didn't even know I had fat wrists lol! I really regret not taking a before photo myself.

Morning all! Could someone please add me to the sheet at 174lbs? Disappointed this morning as I stated last week and lost almost a kilo, buggered up on Sunday as my Dad was staying and we took him out for roast dinner and I ate potatoes and pudding and wine Blush. But I am so much fatter than I ever imagined I would be and I am determined to get rid of it! 11stone was always my “omg far too far lose weight now” weight and I’m currently well over 12st having gained about 2 stone in two stressful years. Boot camp worked really well for me before so here’s hoping!

MsAwesomeDragon · 13/01/2020 07:54

I've added my weight to the spreadsheet. It was a little more than I'd really wanted, but I've only put on 4 lbs over Christmas, and that's why I'm here anyway isn't it?

Have babybel and boiled eggs to keep me snacked up for the day, and soup for lunch.

StuntNun · 13/01/2020 07:56

Coleslaw varies a lot so, as Hagbeth says,
check the carb count and don't assume premium products will be lower carb. The standard Sainsburys coleslaw is lower carb than their deluxe version. We also have a recipe on the spreadsheet if you fancy making your own.

It's low carb not no carb Lion we'll still get plenty of carbs from veggies (N.B. if someone writes FLGV this stands for fuck loads of green vegetables!) And dairy products, meat, fish and eggs all still contain carbohydrate.

@StuntNun
Pleased to hear I'm ok to join in! I've been taking breastfeeding supplements for a while as I was aware my diet wasn't the most nutritious - sleep deprivation and running after a toddler was leading to lots of grab and go high carb snacks! Now things are more settled and I'll be back at work soon so more in routine and have more time for food prep.

Could someone please add me and my starting weight of 175 pounds to the spreadsheet please?

I'm very inspired by some of the success stories I have read on the various threads. Good luck everyone!

rodez · 13/01/2020 08:00

Monday greetings from me too - added myself to the spreadsheet but I'm in kilos not lbs hope that's ok as the shame of the number is bad enough without having to do a maths conversion each time too. I go on holiday 25 Feb (all inclusive...) not sure how my final weeks of bootcamp will go, but determined to give it a good go until then and see what I can continue when there. Also no alcohol since 2 Jan which definitely helps to avoid the wine and nibbles habit.

RozHuntleysStump · 13/01/2020 08:09

Ugh. 14st 1lb. I’d got down to 13.8! Oh well it could be worse. Got ramblers today so that will be a good 6 mile walk. Going to try walking everyday to build up my fitness a bit as I’d love to do the longer walks the ramblers do.

No breakfast yet but will have some eggs when I’ve woken up.

BIWI · 13/01/2020 08:20

Good luck everyone.

Just follow the rules and you'll be fine, especially with @StuntNun in charge!

Smile
waspfig · 13/01/2020 08:21

If I'm doing BC light how many total grams of carbs per day should I be aiming for?

absopugginglutely · 13/01/2020 08:24

@StuntNun Thank you for doing this!
To answer your question on the last thread yes cocoa with just hot water and a splash of double cream does taste absolutely lovely.
Over Christmas I tried a sip of hot chocolate and it was horribly sweet after 12 weeks of LCHF!

I am so happy to enter my weight into the spread sheet, the last boot camp I entered 154 lbs in on the first day and after doing LCHF as my way of eating (WOE) since last October I am now entering 145lbs on the first day.

I want to do the 16:8 intermittent fasting thing because that really worked for me because late night (LCHF) snacks are creeping in since xmas)

Just about to drop DD off at pre-school and then I'll come home and get guzzling WATER WATER WATER!!

Good Luck everyone!

BIWI · 13/01/2020 08:27

If you're using your phone or tablet you may find that you need to download the Google docs app to be able to use the spreadsheet. Please try this first - but if you really can't access it that way, then post your weight on the chat thread and someone else will add it for you.

MrsBertBibby · 13/01/2020 08:28

Right, I did a "start" photo. Not sure I shall ever post it, but it's there.

HouseTornado · 13/01/2020 08:33

Thanks, StuntNun (and for running the thread)

That picture is never seeing the light of day (even though I already look like this in the pool!) - but it'll be interesting to see the difference after 10 weeks.

StuntNun · 13/01/2020 08:34

Rodez with holidays the most important thing is preparation. You might decide to stay strict low carb. You might decide to have one higher carb food or one alcoholic drink per day. I had one client that planned to have her favourite dessert on the last day of her holiday. However when she actually got to the last day of her holiday she was so pleased with herself for staying on track that she ended up not having it and came back from holiday a couple of pounds lighter rather than any heavier.

OP posts:
StuntNun · 13/01/2020 08:35

Thanks BIWI Smile how's the holiday going?

OP posts:
BIWI · 13/01/2020 08:39

Fab thanks! Sitting by the pool, currently 29 degrees and forecast to reach 34 later. Grin

DiscontentedWoman · 13/01/2020 08:46

Morning - considerably less that 29 degrees here BIWI

Eggs for breakfast + vitamin + water. And more water. Going to hardboil some snacking eggs now

whitershadeofpale · 13/01/2020 08:46

I’ll update the spreadsheet later when I’m on my laptop. I started last week so will weigh in later as well, I already feel like my stomach is much flatter. I’ve got loads to lose. Getting married next year so have a clear goal in sight.
