Welcome to the January 2020 Low Carb Bootcamp. I know some of you have already started eating low carb so please share your good experiences to give the rest of us some inspiration as we begin our weight loss journey.

Make sure you’ve read the ten Low Carb Bootcamp rules. There are some shopping list and meal plan suggestions on the preparation thread.

If you need recipe inspirations then there we have hundreds on the meat recipes thread, the poultry recipes thread, and the vegetarian recipes thread. Note that vegetarians may include small quantities of legumes, nuts and Quorn right from the start to make sure they’re getting enough protein. There is also thread of low carb products people have found in the shops.

We weigh in every Monday so add your starting weight to the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness. If you’re on a mobile or tablet and can’t get the spreadsheet to work then please post your entry on this thread and someone will add it for you. Some people choose to record their starting weight as 100 if they don’t want to share their actual weight. I also urge you to make a note of your waist measurement as sometimes we can lose inches without losing pounds on this way of eating. Some people like to have a goal pair of jeans or a dress that they can try on throughout Bootcamp so see how the fit improves over time. Others like to take ‘before’ photos that they can use for comparison later on.

If you have any questions or concerns then please do ask. Bootcamp has been running for nearly ten years so we have lots of expertise to share with you.

I meant to sign up on the last thread, sorry! Can I be added? I've done it before, but Christmas and a really difficult home situation mean I'm now half a stone heavier.... 😞
Thanks!

littlebillie · 13/01/2020 06:18

👋 here to be slimmer - determined !

Mimosa1 · 13/01/2020 06:27

Reporting in!

Exitstrategist · 13/01/2020 06:36

I’m here! A stone to lose- would be amazing to actually do it this time. Lost half a stone in last boot camp! Doing boot camp light as breastfeeding. Looking forward to seeing the scales go in the right direction.

GuyMartinsSideburns · 13/01/2020 06:40

Good morning! Could someone please add my weight - 144, thanks.

Looking forward to this! Have a great day everyone

moleeye · 13/01/2020 06:41

Right, I've done the walk of shame and weighed myself. Spreadsheet updated

Day 1 💪🏼

Thanks stuntnun and Athelstane!

Teapotdespot · 13/01/2020 06:52

Morning all Grin

I’m actually in week 2 having started a week early and I’m amazed. I’m 5.2lbs down this week and haven’t felt deprived at all Smile

PseudoBadger · 13/01/2020 06:53

Starting off with scrambled eggs and crispy bacon, and coffee with cream. What diet?!

waspfig · 13/01/2020 06:56

New to low carb here. Determined to get some weight off after having two DC in two years. Will weigh in once DC is at nursery. Heading to the supermarket later armed with shopping list from the other thread.

Am I safe to do boot camp whilst breastfeeding? Ive read a couple of things which suggest low carb is not a good idea?

StuntNun · 13/01/2020 07:01

Stegasaurusmum yes if you weren't on the sign-up thread then add your name to the bottom of the spreadsheet and Athelstane will alphabetise it later on.

Chista · 13/01/2020 07:03

Please add me, really need to start shifting some pounds starting at 177 pounds

GreeboIsMySpiritAnimal · 13/01/2020 07:04

Morning! Would someone be able to change me on the spreadsheet from my festive name of RudolphIsMySpiritAnimal? Thank you.

Hello to all the newbies! Take it from me - THIS WORKS! My first bootcamp was in May, and since then I've lost 3 stone (put 4 lbs over Christmas but that's hardly disastrous and I know it'll come off quickly now I'm back on it). I've gone from a size 14-16 to 8-10, and from a BMI of 27 to 21/22. On top of that, I've done it without ever going hungry or feeling deprived - I love my food and enjoy my meals. I have more energy that ever, my skin looks great, and my IBS has all but disappeared.

Follow the rules, stick at it, and remember WATER WATER WATER! Grin

PinkSubscriber · 13/01/2020 07:04

Morning everyone please could somebody add my weight 129? Thanks

StuntNun · 13/01/2020 07:05

Waspfig it's fine to do Bootcamp while breastfeeding, I've done it twice. We suggest starting straight on to Bootcamp Light because the extra calorie demands of breastfeeding means you don't need the extra strict Bootcamp phase. I also recommend taking a breastfeeding supplement to make sure you're getting enough vitamins and minerals, as your baby gets first dibs on those which could potentially leave you short if your calorie, and therefore micronutrient intake is reduced. If your baby is still breastfeeding at night then I suggest keeping a snack on your bedside table for the first few nights while you adapt to this way of eating.

Question for experienced boot campers:

I’m in week 2, yesterday I had cream coffee for breakfast and Nando’s for lunch (chicken breast, coleslaw and roast Italian veggies). When it came to tea time, I was so un-hungry that the thought of eating was making me feel a bit grim, so I skipped my evening meal. I’ve woken up this morning also really not hungry (going to have a cream coffee on a bit) whereas usually i would be ravenous if I hadn’t eaten since yesterday lunch time?

Is this normal or am I coming down with something, and if it is normal should I be forcing myself to eat something in the evening even if I don’t want to?

Hagbeth · 13/01/2020 07:08

Hi all! Wink I started last week and have already lost close to 2lbs. I did the last bootcamp but then my main aim was to get back to eating low carb, not really lose weight. This time it’s all about weight loss.
I’m a long time low carber but completely fell of the wagon 2017 and had to claw myself back, finding it very hard this time but motivated by how bad I feel on a “normal” diet and how awsome I felt on low carb. The feeling is amazing. Like waking up from a long sleep.

My husband has a terminal illness and we have three children in secondary school. We have no immediate family here after my FIL died last October. I need to get healthy so I’ll be there for our children. This is my strongest motivation.

I’m doing a three day egg and bacon fast to begin this week. This is my period week so I’m expecting some water gain. Starting weight today is 175.7lbs Good luck all!

TamingToddler · 13/01/2020 07:12

Hello everyone! I'm here. Not looking to lose much really so don't need to be on the spreadsheet. Just like this way of eating, and here for the recipes.
Good luck everyone, PLEASE DRINK YOUR WATER. WATER WATER WATER.

MrsBertBibby · 13/01/2020 07:15
  1. Oh dear! That's worse than I feared.
StuntNun · 13/01/2020 07:15

Good luck to you Hagbeth. Thanks As a diet coach I have found that people can have greater motivation and success when they're making lifestyle changes for someone else's sake.

Morning, please can you put my starting figure in 203lbs
Thank you

Teapotdespot · 13/01/2020 07:25

Thought I’d be brave and share my boot camp belt Blush

I was bought this belt at Christmas and it was just too small to fasten comfortably. It’s now (just!) on the first hole after a week of boot camp, so my waist has definitely reduced significantly probably mostly due to water weight etc.

If I could get comfortably to the 3rd hole by the end of week 10 I’d be thrilled!

I’m 19 and a half stone at 5ft 5in (was 20st on 1st jan) so I need to lose 10 stone over the next couple of years so DH and I can get our act together and have DC. I’m 29, so going in to my 30’s at a healthy weight would be magic.

Things for me are slightly complicated by PCOS, so it’s going to be a long road down Sad

signing in and saying Hello to all the campers

I’m in week 2... When it came to tea time, I was so un-hungry that the thought of eating was making me feel a bit grim, so I skipped my evening meal... should I be forcing myself to eat something in the evening even if I don’t want to?
Teapot I think the key here is understanding the reason behind the rules. The three meals a day plus snacks rule is (a) to speed the switch to fat-burning by having a plentiful alternative energy source to carbs; and (b) to stop us from getting too hungry and eating something carby that's going to send us back to square one. You would also be surprised how many people consciously or subconsciously restrict calories when they switch to low carb. They scupper their own success by eating too little at meal times, trying to restrict fat intake, or not having low carb snacks available. By understanding the reasoning then you can work out whether that rule is one you can bend to your own circumstances. If you're confident that you've had enough to eat and skipping dinner isn't going to send you rummaging for carbs at midnight then follow your appetite. Ultimately we want to be able regain that awareness of hunger and satiation that many of us have lost through years of being told to clean our plate, or eating in case we get hungry later.
