Week 1 - Pre-Christmas Low Carb Bootcamp - Are you ready?!

BIWI · 11/10/2015 22:44

Evening all!

I'm starting the chat thread a little early, because I have to be at work at sparrow's fart tomorrow.

So here's the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness, created and curated by the very lovely SayrraT

You don't have to add your weight - but you can also be on the spreadsheet without entering your actual weight. If you want, you can index it - which means that you start at 100. For every pound that you lose, lose a point. So if you lose 4lbs in week one, then you'll start week 2 at 96.

Have a good look at the tabs at the bottom of the spreadsheet, as there is all sorts of really important information there - not least of which is Bootcamp rules.

If you haven't done Bootcamp before, I'd suggest that you print off the rules and stick them somewhere that you'll see them regularly. In addition, I'd also suggest that you print off the list of vegetables and their carb counts.

If you have any particular questions, the questions thread is here - it's often the case that the chat thread moves so quickly in the early weeks that questions can easily get missed.

And don't forget the recipe thread! There are loads of lovely recipes on here - the thread is almost full, but there's still room for any more low carb recipes you might want to add.

Above all, good luck to you all. Bootcamp is designed to be simple and straightforward, but it isn't easy. If you have any problems, or think things aren't working, please come and chat about it here.

Thanks BIWI I'm not really feeling nervous yet because I think it hasn't really sunk in that it's happening.

I've read through my thesis, not really sure what else I can do to prepare. I'm off to ride my horse now then try and relax for tomorrow, I'll need to leave earlyish as I need to travel to Glasgow for it.....starting at 0930. Lets home it's a short viva and not a 6 hr grilling!

Wombatinabathhat · 18/10/2015 16:25

Hello all
I had a day with children yesterday and was 'forced' into having fast food. I had chicken which had some batter but I managed not to have any fries. It was the best I could do, so hoping it won't have too much effect.
Although it's not allowed, I did have a couple loads of alcohol but I stayed away from wine and had vodka/soda.
Today is better
B: 2 boiled eggs
D: Steak, mushrooms sauted in butter and a fried egg.

I have prepared a chicken and vegetable curry which I will be taking to work for lunch everyday.

Fingers crossed for everyone's weigh in tomorrow Smile

Wombatinabathhat · 18/10/2015 16:27

Oh and good luck Sayrra Thanks

CalmYoBadSelf · 18/10/2015 16:48

Good luck Sayyra

BIWI Personal trainer is supportive of low carb, she is trained in nutrition and is quite sceptical of current dietary advice. The eating plan she supplies her clients is low carb although not as lchf as bootcamp but she is happy to support me in this and says the plan looks fine to her. Interestingly she says this WOE is good for me as the super-duper scales show that I have more muscle mass (under my fat that is!) than most women my age so need protein and fat along with exercise to sustain that and a traditional diet might work short term but would never be sustainable in the long term

I think I need to have more fat though. I got a bit twitchy about how much fat I ate when I put my info into MFP and it seemed to be all in the red! I do find I still feel hungry at times so more fat might solve that. To that end I am making cauliflower cheese with double cream in tonight so serve with leg of lamb Smile

readyforno2 · 18/10/2015 18:19

Hi everyone, I had planned to catch up on the thread but it's huge!
Best of luck Sayrra!
After a week of all inclusive I have come back a stone heavier than I went away Blush
Looking forward to starting lc tomorrow and have just done a huge shop so ready for it too!

Hyggeligt · 18/10/2015 18:24

Thank you for your kindness and suggestions Sayyra
It has been a rubbish few days and-you're right-eating a load of food that I didn't need didn't change the fact that it's been a rubbish few days...

TooExtraImmatureCheddar · 18/10/2015 19:07

Good luck tomorrow, Sayrra!

B: ff yoghurt
L: snacks - BabyBel, bag of pork scratchings, ham with cream cheese, lump of cheese with cream cheese.
D: Roast pork, crackling, roast celeriac, savoy cabbage and leeks fried in butter.
2 cups tea, 1 coffee with cream and approx 2.5 l water so far.

Wasn't really hungry for lunch, finally! I was out in the morning (had taken the BabyBel and pork scratchings with me), and didn't get home until 2, by which time the hunger had mostly passed.

BestIsWest · 18/10/2015 19:26

Good day today for me. Eggs mashed with butter for breakfast, lovely lunch of avocado, lettuce, fried pancetta cubes, couple of cherry toms and mayo.

Fajitas with lettuce wraps and guacamole for dinner with some Greek yoghurt to follow.

One decaf coffee with crime and a few teas. Must drink more water though. I always struggle with it.

regenerationfez · 18/10/2015 19:37

I need to catch up on this thread, but I'll just put down mky food intake. Hopefully back on track today- Scrambled eggs and smoked salmon for breakfast with 2 coffees and cream, lunch salami slices, olives, a chunk of Wensleydale cheese, some lettuce and cherry tomatoes with a cider vinegar and olive oil dressing ( yum!). I had roast pork for dinner with cauliflower cheese and roasted carrots. Snacks were pork scratchings in the cinema instead of popcorn. I've acquired a taste for them!

PseudoBadger · 18/10/2015 19:52

Best of luck Sayrra! What a kind and useful post Flowers

regenerationfez · 18/10/2015 20:28

Good luck Sayrra I was coming on to say the same thing- how encouraging and helpful you are Flowers

Huntthepigsear · 18/10/2015 20:49

Welcome standing glad you found us.
Hyggeligt sorry it's Ben tough. It's shit trying to do something new like this when your brain is not in the right place. Hope this coming week is better on all fronts. Thanks
Good luck with the viva Sayrra, I'm sure you'll ace it.
CalmYo I'm on MFP and had changed my macros to 10/25/65 carbs/protein/fats. Looking at the LCHF forum, people seem to set carbs between 5-10, protein 20-25 and then fat the rest. At least if you do that you won't get all in the red! I'm not logging at the moment, except the odd day to see what it all adds up to. If my weight stops dropping, then I might start logging again.

Ive had a good day. Wasn't hungry at lunch again. Left it until 1.30, then just had half what I was going to have and then dinner as usual. I'm feeling nicely full this evening, so happy again. Smile
Ive made broccoli and Stilton soup for tomorrow, it's come out a bit thin but seems to taste nice.
Looking forward, I think, to weigh in tomorrow.

Huntthepigsear · 18/10/2015 20:50

Oops! I'm sure Ben is a tough guy, but been tough might have made more sense.

CalmYoBadSelf · 18/10/2015 20:55

My cauliflower cheese was yummy and I even have some leftover for tomorrow Smile I did what somebody suggested upthread; warmed double cream with some ricotta I had in the fridge, whacked in cheese when hot, poured over cooked cauli, sprinkled with a bit of parmesan and browned the top

B: CoYo and greek yoghurt
L: LC sausage, 2 rashers bacon, 2 fried eggs
T: Roast lamb, cauliflower cheese, swede, would have been perfect but I ate some carrots too
Pork crunch for snacks

regenerationfez · 18/10/2015 21:56

I made my cauli cheese with full fat crème fraiche. Is that allowed? I also forgot to mention I went to a cafe and had coffee with coconut milk god it was good! because they didn't have almond milk. Not sure if I can have that either! I'll be back on the almond milk at home though!

regenerationfez · 18/10/2015 21:57

I thought it was go easy on the carrots not avoid? I had a few roast carrots with my dinner too

thisisgettingridiculous · 18/10/2015 22:12

Signing in for the first time. 11 lbs off so far. I have a huge amount to lose though. I have also been walking 4 miles a day as I started a new job on monday which is2 miles away.

been very good except for a piece of birthday cake in the office on friday. It was my boss and my first week in post so I had to! Not feeling hungry at all and no cravings for crisps or chocolate which is amazing!

today I had fava beans for breakfast, greek yogurt for lunch, broccoli soup for dinner, celery and tzatziki for evening snack and a lump of cheddar cheese and some olives.

Billionnairewannabe · 18/10/2015 22:51

Yahoo - made it to day 7.

No appetite at all today (a completely new feeling for me!)

B - 1/4 Coyo - (Thanks Sayyra & good luck tomorrow!) coffee with cream
L - tuna mayo egg 1/2 avocado 2 cherry toms
D vlc sausage & swede mash with lots of butter

How much fat is high fat? My old frying pan has found a new lease of life too! Not sure if I'm eating enough fat - trying to do some at each meal is that enough?

Weigh day tomorrow!

StoneFoxMama · 19/10/2015 07:02

Wow 11lbs this that's amazing, how long did that take?

Is today weigh in day, I'm a little excited, even though Sunday is a bit of a feast day here, I think it was all in keeping.

Yesterday was soy double cream latte
Chanterelle, pancetta and leek frittata
Roast pheasant, mashed swede, brussel sprouts and purple sprouting broccoli with meat juice and butter gravy. Yum.

Then I drank some double cream, basic I know!

AStoneBeforeChristmas · 19/10/2015 07:23

End of week 1 and only 2lb gone. Entirely my fault - too many "just one won't hurt" moments.

How has everyone else done?

Billionnairewannabe · 19/10/2015 07:38

weightwatchers not weightless!

HildaFlorence · 19/10/2015 07:39

Can I join a week late , have done a little low carbing before but was away last week and impossible to start.

thisisgettingridiculous · 19/10/2015 07:40

Hi stonefoxmama,

the 11lbs was off in five days. Previously I had been overeating hugely so this is partly my body normalising. I won't expect a loss like that every week. Also, I have four stone to lose.

haven't lost at all over the weekend. Did no exercise.
