Week 1 - Pre-Christmas Low Carb Bootcamp - Are you ready?!

BIWI · 11/10/2015 22:44

Evening all!

I'm starting the chat thread a little early, because I have to be at work at sparrow's fart tomorrow.

So here's the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness, created and curated by the very lovely SayrraT

You don't have to add your weight - but you can also be on the spreadsheet without entering your actual weight. If you want, you can index it - which means that you start at 100. For every pound that you lose, lose a point. So if you lose 4lbs in week one, then you'll start week 2 at 96.

Have a good look at the tabs at the bottom of the spreadsheet, as there is all sorts of really important information there - not least of which is Bootcamp rules.

If you haven't done Bootcamp before, I'd suggest that you print off the rules and stick them somewhere that you'll see them regularly. In addition, I'd also suggest that you print off the list of vegetables and their carb counts.

If you have any particular questions, the questions thread is here - it's often the case that the chat thread moves so quickly in the early weeks that questions can easily get missed.

And don't forget the recipe thread! There are loads of lovely recipes on here - the thread is almost full, but there's still room for any more low carb recipes you might want to add.

Above all, good luck to you all. Bootcamp is designed to be simple and straightforward, but it isn't easy. If you have any problems, or think things aren't working, please come and chat about it here.

I'm pretty sure it's no gum - BIWI will be along again soon with her big stick. ShockGrin

Palomb · 15/10/2015 18:55

Marginally better day for me.

Breakfast yoghurt
Lunch some scratchings and Few squares of 80% choc
I've just eaten lc sausages with corgette spaghetti with cheese sauce with onion, pancetta and a few peas

Another lb off on the scales this morning. Still not hungry at all.

CalmYoBadSelf · 15/10/2015 19:00

Busy day at work here so have not eaten as much protein as I should have

B: Minute steak, mushroom and creamy scrambled egg (might sound lovely but I am sick of it now!)
L: Curried cauliflower soup and a bit of chicken (but not enough)
T: IPD Butter chicken with cauli rice

On this bootcamp we are eating 3 meals a day but I was told recently you should eat 3 small protein based snacks too as the body thinks it is starving if it goes more than 5 hours without food so you should eat a few nuts, bit of yoghurt, chicken, ham, cheese, etc between meals (so you eat something around every 3 hours). Is that true? I have breakfast about 7.30-8am then lunch about 1.30pm and tea about 6-7pm

Billionnairewannabe · 15/10/2015 19:09

I must say as a 1st timer to BC I'm loving it! It is really well organised, lots of useful info (sucks up to BIWI in case of any more mistakes). And I love reading everyone's daily diary - helps with ideas etc. I haven't eaten this healthily for years ...and it's surprisingly easy to just throw something in a pan of butter and make a meal!

So..day 4 complete
B - Greek yoghurt & black coffee (creature of habit)
L - prawns with lambs lettuce, rocket & avocado
D - minute steak with mushroom, cream & pepercorn sauce, salad & aubergines

I am hanging on to my last cup of coffee - normally have 6/7. Any alternatives?
Carb flu - headaches gone but am def having 3L water..did wake up with pimples to rival my 14yr oldsShock. Also very sniffly & not sure if it's flu flu or carb flu? TMI My nose was literally running down & eyes watering...I did wonder if the copious amounts of water had just started seeping out of every orifice. No hunger and despite doing an early shift yesterday where a I always demolish the biscuit tin after, I survived on BC. Haven't weighed yet but felt as if I was "walking taller" today IFYSWIM.

ijustwanttobeme · 15/10/2015 19:26

Checking in:

B: salami and cheese, plus a creamy coffee

L: chicken satay/kebab type things and salad - lunch was laid in, so this was the only LC option. I'd stocked up at M&S at Euston earlier in the day just in case, but didn't need it after all.

D: went to a Vietnamese street food place and had pork meatballs (admittedly they did have a slight carby coating...), plus chicken noodle broth, but I didn't eat any of the noodles at all.

S: cheese - from m&s pick and mix

Note to self- must up the water intake.

PseudoBadger · 15/10/2015 19:42

Breakfast - the usual
Lunch - tuna mayo salad with avocado
Dinner - bacon and eggs (was meant to be chicken legs and veg but they are tiny so I'm giving both to DP Sad )

Balonder · 15/10/2015 19:55

B - ff Greek yoghurt
L - Ham salad with ff mayo and oily dressing
S - ham, cheese and mayo
D - chicken, avocado and more salad.
I usually try to limit the amount of meat I eat so I am really enjoying having it so often Blush

BIWI · 15/10/2015 20:32

CalmYo - I really don't think that going without food for 5 hours constitutes starvation!

On Bootcamp we're aiming to keep our blood sugar levels stable, which means eating regularly, but actually only when you're hungry. We start off with 3 meals a day to make sure everything is stable, but also the mantra is 'eat when you're hungry'. (As long as you're eating low carb, obviously!)

But what you'll find when you're into it, is that your appetite is suppressed, and you genuinely won't feel hungry. This is a combination of two things - you'll be eating enough protein and fat to keep you satiated, and also your hormones and blood sugar will be properly balanced.

There should be no need for snacking of any kind on Bootcamp, once you've adapted to it.

Re sugar-free gum, generally I'd say no because of the artificial sweeteners, but if you're suffering from the bad breath/foul taste, it won't do you any harm if you have the odd piece or two.

Checking in

Lidl ff yog/dbl cream/coconut oil
Small piece cheese and slice salami
Mozzarella and frankfurters (best I could do!)
Chicken curry, spinach + pander curry.

Bit off-piste but bit of an unusual day. Back to normal tomorrow.
Slightly less than usual water levels due to above.

2lb water weight off since mon...yay...careful tho, don't celebrate too quickly (note to self)

yongnian · 15/10/2015 20:38

That should be PANEER

ChesterDawers · 15/10/2015 21:22

Bit of a better day here today, and just finished my third litre of water, yay me.

B: nothing, sorry
L: M&s prawns and dip thingamy, think it was 1.8g carbs, pack of crispy bacon strips, like bloody crack to me Blush did not have them as receptacles to scoop up cheese and onion sandwich filler the other day, oh no, not I
D: Bol with grated cheddar. Was going to do courgetti but CNBA

Really low on veg, fat and food, but better than it has been and all BC compliant. Determined to do it, just wish my appetite would agree!

LexLoofah · 15/10/2015 21:27

Eggtastic day here

B- 2 sb eggs mashed with butter, 2 cold sausages spread with lashings of butter and marmite, cuppa, coffee w cream

L - 2 eggs scr w coconut oil, avo with hm mayo, smoked salmon

D - not what I had planned, forgot to put the oven on and ran out of time so had 2 eggs fried in butter topped with some grated cheese

not great on water today, just having a peppermint tea

ShebaQueen · 15/10/2015 22:10

Thanks for the tip SayrraT, I will try Lo Salt

SayrraT · 15/10/2015 22:37

stone coconut porridge is desiccated coconut mixed with ground almonds, coconut milk and cream.

I can't remember the weights because I use a wee measure. Next time I make it I will weigh and let you know.

regenerationfez · 15/10/2015 22:58

I had sausage casserole for dinner, sausages with shallots, courgette, carro, celeriac all cooked in passata with mixed herbs and mustard (again!) I was a bit hungry between meals oddly, or maybe because I had some carbs at my breakfast meeting. I had a handful of nuts and some Wensleydale cheese.

Hearing about your side effects is worrying me, because I'm not really having any, so I'm not sure I'm doing it properly. I did have a bit of a headache but apparently my breath doesn't smell particularly different.

Sayrra that porridge sounds yum. I love coconut!

StoneFoxMama · 16/10/2015 05:18

Thanks Sayrra, sounds delicious!

Today
Lc soya and double cream latte
Lc chipolata, soft boiled eggs and asparagus baked wrapped in Parma ham
Chilli garlic spring onion tofu with beansprout noodles and sesame oil

AStoneBeforeChristmas · 16/10/2015 06:13

Yesterday was pretty good I think...
B ff yogurt and some scrambled egg
L mushrooms cooked in butter and cream and a sprinkle of blue cheese with a mixed salad
D cottage pie with cauliflower mash/cheese topping and the rest of them didn't even notice!! Consequently, my plan that there was some left for my lunch today was scuppered as the whole lot was eaten.
S piece of birthday cake (which made me feel sooooooo guilty that I got up at 5.45am to have a sneaky weigh in and found that I have lost 3lb - hurrah).
Lots of water

As others are saying, the headaches and gluey feeling have gone and I feel good.

AStoneBeforeChristmas · 16/10/2015 06:14

Fluey not gluey!

PseudoBadger · 16/10/2015 07:14

7lbs off so far!!!
Might have a challenge today as will be at a close friend's over lunchtime and I'm sure she'll have an oven pizza on offer. Have to just eat the salad!

SayrraT · 16/10/2015 09:17

Had a sneaky wee weigh in this morning.....down 3 lbs Grin very pleased.

Well done pseudo just keep your 7 lbs in mind when faced with pizza this afternoon. Does your friend know that you are LCing?

Tootyfilou · 16/10/2015 09:22

Thanks info on chewing gum.
Yesterday ok.
B. 2 eggs smoked salmon
L. Ham, salad, 2 mini tomatoes, coyo.
3 litres water and 1 coffee with cream.
No dinner unfortunately. Felt a bit sick and v tired so went to bed( at 9pm lovely!)
Today, only water so far, still feeling sick. Will have lunch at work later probably salad and Tuna mayo.
Had a sneaky weigh this morning. No weight loss sadly, but may have put on some weight on weekend and lost that IYSWM. Good luck today everyone.

Palomb · 16/10/2015 09:45

It's my day off today and my task for the day is to make my Christmas cake!

Argggg!

StoneFoxMama · 16/10/2015 10:25

Palomb luckily Christmas cake is minging, should help the diet no end Grin

Couldn't resist a scales check, I've been weeing for england and 2lbs off! This is pretty monumental as I've been lcing since last bootcamp, but doing lite so it shows the difference it makes. I've also only got 5 or 6 lbs to lose so not expecting it to go fast, just glad I got an initial, very unexpected, woosh.

Palomb · 16/10/2015 10:41

My Christmas cake is certainly not minging Grin I've just put it in the oven and I'm gagging to lick the bowl. Must resist!

Well done on your 2lb :)
