Week 1 - Pre-Christmas Low Carb Bootcamp - Are you ready?!

BIWI · 11/10/2015 22:44

Evening all!

I'm starting the chat thread a little early, because I have to be at work at sparrow's fart tomorrow.

So here's the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness, created and curated by the very lovely SayrraT

You don't have to add your weight - but you can also be on the spreadsheet without entering your actual weight. If you want, you can index it - which means that you start at 100. For every pound that you lose, lose a point. So if you lose 4lbs in week one, then you'll start week 2 at 96.

Have a good look at the tabs at the bottom of the spreadsheet, as there is all sorts of really important information there - not least of which is Bootcamp rules.

If you haven't done Bootcamp before, I'd suggest that you print off the rules and stick them somewhere that you'll see them regularly. In addition, I'd also suggest that you print off the list of vegetables and their carb counts.

If you have any particular questions, the questions thread is here - it's often the case that the chat thread moves so quickly in the early weeks that questions can easily get missed.

And don't forget the recipe thread! There are loads of lovely recipes on here - the thread is almost full, but there's still room for any more low carb recipes you might want to add.

Above all, good luck to you all. Bootcamp is designed to be simple and straightforward, but it isn't easy. If you have any problems, or think things aren't working, please come and chat about it here.

And we're off! Happy camping to everyone. My weight has crept up but no surprise considering the rubbish i've been eating.

At home today so have had a leisurely scrambled eggs with salmon and cream for breakfast.

Going to make a cottage pie later and see if DH notices it's cauli mash....

HairsprayQueen · 12/10/2015 09:49

Weighed in this morning, I actually started last week and was down 6.2lbs so that was nice, obviously not included in my bootcamp figures though!

Please could someone add me at 100 on the spreadsheet, I can't do it on my phone, will sort out my MN passwords for next week so I can do it on the laptop Smile

A lovely coffee with cream for breakfast, a lovely thick steak for lunch that was on the reduced shelf, so looking forward to that! Will have it with buttery green beans. And spicy pork mince with roasted cauliflower for dinner.

Angelsus · 12/10/2015 09:56

Morning everyone! I'm struggling to enter my weight via my iPad, I'm starting at 177 pounds if someone would be good enough to add me.

Plan for today:

B - 2 X poached eggs and 2 X bacon
L - chicken salad
D - Cajun salmon, broccoli and mushrooms

TooExtraImmatureCheddar · 12/10/2015 10:02

Hurray for Day 1! Weight added to the spreadsheet, and I'm about to get up and fill a litre bottle of water.

B: Scrambled eggs with smoked salmon
L: Chicken Caesar salad with homemade Caesar dressing
D: Bolognese sauce with cheese on top. Lidl tinned tomatoes are 3.6g carb per 100g.

I have BabyBels and lots of interesting Lidl chorizo sausage thingies for snacks if required. My goal today is to cut down the amount of milk I have in tea. I have had one cup of tea so far that was much darker than my normal extra-milky tea! I did look for almond or hazelnut milk in Lidl yesterday but didn't see any - would it be next to the normal milk or not?

CantSee4Looking · 12/10/2015 10:13

Hmmm coffee is doing to be my downfall. 3 cups already this morning. No breakfast. Bad habits. Bad habits you don't realise you are doing until you do bootcamp. As i ended up drinking about 8 cups yesterday, my goal is to avoid any more coffee. Although I suspect 1 more will happen. I would like to be back at only 1 cup level by next week though but suspect it will take 2 weeks to get there with carb flu/caffiene withdrawal.

Forgot to stand on the scales in the overslept/poorly child mess this morning. So will do so tomo.

keep I would imagine the trick will be meals you can add carbs to for them but veg for you e.g spag bol with pasta for them and courgette noodles for you.

Luckily I don't have to do that. Mine are adults so can sort themselves out and one thing that has undermined me over recent months is trying to accommodate how they want to eat. DD wants lower fat, her BF eats low carb but uses protein shakes, etc and keeps fat lower than bootcamp, DH eats low carb but eats fruit and tucks in biscuits when peckish and still loses more than me, bastard! I have just told them that, from now, I will be cooking things I want and their choice is take it or leave it

fluffywol · 12/10/2015 10:47

I'm having trouble with the Sheets app on my phone, it won't show me the second column where the starting weight goes. I've put it in column E by mistake Blush It appears I can see into the future and I've lost 199lb Grin

I'll have to drag the laptop out and try and correct it

regenerationfez · 12/10/2015 10:50

Morning all! I'm raring to go! I've added my weight to the spreadsheet and was shocked to remember the last time I was 180lb I was nearly 9 months pregnant!!! My fridge has broken, so I'm having to buy food by the day until our new fridge is delivered in 3-5 working days Shock
I made a stack of muffins made with eggs, cheese, ricotta and mushrooms. I had 2 of them and stuck the rest in the freezer. I'll have to think of something to buy for lunch, then pork shoulder and roasted veg for dinner. Does anyone have any ideas for flavourings? I normally smother them in barbeque sauce!

regenerationfez · 12/10/2015 10:53

I couldnt add my weight on my tablet at all, even though I downloaded Google Sheets. I could do it on the laptop with no problems though, if that helps!

TooExtraImmatureCheddar · 12/10/2015 10:55

Mmm, DH is making slow cooker pork for tomorrow god knows what he's putting in it - it had better be low-carb and has trimmed off a big lump of fat and is roasting it with chill powder. Mmm, crackling. He can't have any because he had his wisdom teeth out last week and can't eat anything crunchy, so it's mine, all mine!

LexLoofah · 12/10/2015 11:04

morning all, well after being all prepared a week early last week was woefully under prepared this morning - no eggs!

B - mushrooms and spinach in butter, cuppa

have just had an emotional 'something' and a coffee so not off to a good start, am feeling sorry for myself as DDs B Day tomorrow and DH is not going to be here and have just spent a frustrating hour trying and failing to assemble her new scooter and feeling pretty useless.

Off to bake her treats to take into school tomorrow as lord knows at least that is something I can do even if I can't eat any

L will be leftover wild boar stew, roasted swede and buttery cabbage

D will be leftover roast lamb, more roasted swede and buttered green beans

keepon I have similar problem as only me eating low carb while DH is away and DCs just won't eat celeriac or swede no matter what I do to it so have given up and I do potatoes for them instead. They will tolerate courgette but I usually do spag for them as well. Do yours like cauliflower? Mine love cauli pizza and meatzza over normal pizza. They love fish pie and shepherds pie with cauli mash. They love cauli cheese which I turn into a meal by adding bacon and leeks. Will they eat cauli rice? Could do a curry. Just see what everyone posts each day for ideas, mine generally have what I have with some extra carbs thrown in.

sorry for massive post on the first day

regenerationfez · 12/10/2015 11:53

I just looked at the veg list and realised that most of the veg I put into my roasted veg is over 3g of carbs! Im thinking Ill have to up the aubergine and not put in red peppers or butternut squash.

theveryhighlife · 12/10/2015 12:24

Thanks regenerationfez, I'll try on the laptop. It's so lovely having this group, I normally fail on day 3 of low carbing. So having others in the same boat should hopefully rally me on!

desperatelyseekingamovingdate · 12/10/2015 12:35

Hi all, happy this bootcamp has started again as i really struggle on my own - i need BIWIs big stick. I havent weighed as scales are still packed (moved house recently), this is a good thing as scales lie and this derails me. So for now i am going by how tight my wedding ring is - it was in danger of cutting off the blood supply but i can twist it now - i started a week ago.

In ref to feeding children, mine are only little so eat what i give them. They love cauli rice, swede mash etc. They have porridge and fruit for breakfast, then lunch at school (lots of processed carbs there!) and then a low carb dinner. I also have a stock of frozen potato based carbs - although i try and limit these.

I also try and reduce sugar, so no childrens yoghurts, biscuits, squash, fruit juice or cereals. I think this woe is better for all of us.

B - BPC
L- Green smoothie and cup of bone broth
D - Sausage, gravy, green veg and swede mash

MontserratCaballe · 12/10/2015 12:40

Lex, perhaps doing spiced roast cauliflower would be better than cauli rice? My DH can't bear cauli rice but will happily eat this. I've not tried it on the kids yet. I have been cunningly making mash toppings for them with 50/50 swede and potatoes. They are now snarfing it so I am going to increase the swede. Would that be worth a try?

I am about to go and make fish pie (swede topped for me) , meatballs (for us all - no breadcrumbs), curry (all) and a chicken pie (with rough puff on top - clearly not for me!) Yum.

Thanks for whipping us into shape, BIWI and Sayrra. I forgot to weigh but will do so.

Good luck everyone Smile

AndTheBandPlayedOn · 12/10/2015 13:16

Roasted cauliflower for me today too.
B-eggs, butter, steak (the kind for Philly steak and cheese subs)
L-salad, lettuce, green pepper, pickle, black olives and Italian dressing
D-Chicken breast, more butter, roasted cauliflower with olive oil (or coconut oil if I have any).

I am going to up the exercise this boot camp too. Today's excitement will be exercise ball DVD.

Good Luck everyone. Just don't quit, right?

CalmYoBadSelf · 12/10/2015 14:03

Right I have roughly planned food for the week so may swap and change a bit but am aiming for:
M: Roast chicken and oven roast veg with courgette pasta and pesto
T: Meatball stroganoff with cauli rice and green beans
W: Cajun pork chops with swede mash and broccoli
Th: Chicken curry with cauli rice and raita
F: Salt, pepper and chilli belly pork (bought at Costco, 1.2g carbs/100g) with swede chips and homemade coleslaw

Will make a big pot of vegetable soup to have for lunch with chicken or tinned fish and get lots of eggs for breakfast although I am missing bacon already Grin

Am hoping those are ok,all recipes are from low carb books or sites so fingers crossed

RainbowBodyDouble · 12/10/2015 14:18

Arrggghhh.

I can't weigh until tomorrow so I have tonight to eat my whole bad stash Blush

Balonder · 12/10/2015 15:33

Hi all. I have just added myself to the spreadsheet, a massive 20lbs up since April. I am new to bootcamp but have seen great results from friends low-carbing.
Good luck everyone

whitershadeofpale · 12/10/2015 15:50

So today's food.

Breakfast: bpc
Lunch: 2 chicken drumsticks, salad with avocado.
Dinner: rib eye steak with creamy peppercorn and mushroom sauce, with spinach.

portlyinpurple · 12/10/2015 15:58

"Ready as I'll ever be" is my reply to your question at the top of the thread...but sadly not properly prepared at all. So off out now to buy the yoghurt kale avocado etc that helped me shed approx ten pounds in the post Christmas BC. Stuck with it till the summer when I succumbed to the siren call of Pimms etc. Before I knew it I'd put six pounds on....
So just got a couple of small glasses from Sunday's white wine to finish and then I'll be clambering back on the wagon for real tomorrow.
It could be a bumpy ride...

Wombatinabathhat · 12/10/2015 17:11

Hello everyone.
I've entered my weight Blush but raring to go.

B: Decaf coffee with double cream, ham with hm mayo
L: Hm chicken and courgette curry
D: Steak with mushrooms sauted in butter and a fried egg
S: Pork crackling

Not quite managed my water yet but will do before bed

fluffywol · 12/10/2015 17:23

This is a very interesting article on how drinking water can help you lose weight. authoritynutrition.com/drinking-water-helps-with-weight-loss/

BIWI · 12/10/2015 17:26

whitershadeofpale - just a heads up that you should be eating breakfast, and not having a bulletproof coffee instead!

You can do the BPC in Bootcamp Light, but you should be eating breakfast in Bootcamp.
