Book Club - Redbourn,St.Albans,Harpenden

Hi, I moved to Redbourn last year and looking to join or start a book club. Could you please let me know of a local one or if anyone is interested in starting one?

There was a thread about one but seemed to die a death. Am in wheathampstead end would be keen to join one.

Shall we decide on a book and a location / time to meet? I think we should meet in the evenings but am not too hot at getting places on time with my 4 month old still needing me to feed her....

Yes, evenings are better for me too. I'm fine with St.Albans/Harpenden or Redbourn as a location. It looks like it's going to be the three of us for now...Are we deciding on a book when we meet up? I've got a few sugesstions :-)

Hello all - I too would like to join a book group, I am based in Harpenden, and evenings are best for me too, once the little ones are settled down.

I'd love to join a book group too - evenings by far the best for me too! I'm in Redbourn so St Albans/Harpenden/Redbourn are great for me.

What about a date within the next two weeks? I'm pretty much ok to meet any day between the 10th-24th (as of now!)

11th, 18th or 20th good for me - or 1st, 2nd, 3rd November after half term. Anyone got a suggestion of good venue: not really familiar with pubs around here. Pub seems the best option?

Shall we say the 20th for now and see if it's convenient for all to make it? Looks like it's just the two of us as of now!

Do we need time to read the book first?

I guess I misunderstood...I thought we were going to decide on a book when we meet up. If we are meeting after reading the book then I guess we'll have to decide on what to read first!! Shall we put our suggestions forward and pick the book which gets the most votes?

I suggest one of the following:

1). Sepulchre - By Kate Moss
The story is based in two time periods, 1891 and present day (2007), and follows two female protagonists.

2). Enduring Love - By Ian McEwan
Two strangers become perilously entangled after witnessing a deadly accident.

I've read quiet a lot of positive reviews about both books so thought of naming them as our (possible) first book to read. :-)

I have read Enduring Love many years ago but would also like to read Sepulchre, so happy with either choice.

Another suggestion: and a book I have just read is Room by Emma Donoghue:

It's quite a short, easy read but I think could cause a lot of discussion!

I vote for 'Room' by Emma Donoghue. I agree with ivylady in the fact that it'll cause a lot of discussion.

Hi - So 'Room' seems like a good choice. Shall we name a date then? Do we need to look a bit further ahead to give everyone a chance to read the book? Or is 20th October a good date?
