Hi, I moved to Redbourn last year and looking to join or start a book club. Could you please let me know of a local one or if anyone is interested in starting one?

Really sorry, but it looks as if I won't be able to make it next week as DH will be away with work. Let me know which book and venue you choose for the next meet up and I should be there. Have fun!

Willaby · 19/11/2013 15:58

Hi - I'm the Mumsnet Herts Local Editor. This is a great thread. Would it be possible for you to add your group to our Meet-Up section, as well? local.mumsnet.com/hertfordshire/meet-ups We're putting a lot of resources into our Local sites and Meet-Ups are a great way to get Mums knowing more about local happenings. Also, if there are any of you that would be interested in becoming a Mumsnet Local Ambassador for your area do let me know...email me on [email protected] Thanks!

Our next book will be 'The Fault in our Stars' by John Green.

We're taking a little break over Christmas and New Year, so the next meeting will be on Weds 15th Jan at The Old Bell, Luton Road, Harpenden.

Hope to see those you who've been busy lately and wishing you a very Merry Christmas. See you in 2014!

juneau2 · 16/01/2014 11:17

February's book club will be on Weds 26th at 8pm.

We'll be back at the Old Cock Inn, Harpenden.

The book is 'The Night Circus' by Erin Morgenstern.

SophieStockdale · 11/02/2014 13:14

Hi. This might be a bit cheeky but I have just moved to Redbourn and was keen to join a book group, the only issue is that I have no children yet, but wonder if you had space for a non mum to join? Thanks

Dragontrainer2 · 12/02/2014 19:41

No children = no problem! You'd be more than welcome to join; kids are in no way a pre-requisite!

Hope to see you in the Old Cock later in the month - there's usually at least one of us with the book on the table so you can recognise us!

roundwood · 26/02/2014 19:22

Hi afraid I can't make tonight hope you all have fun.

juneau2 · 27/02/2014 17:17

Our next book group will be Weds 26th March @ The Old Cock, Harpenden

The book is 'The Good Earth' by Pearl Buck.

Avenues · 09/03/2014 00:17

How many people in this book group? And are you taking new joiners?

juneau2 · 09/03/2014 13:36

New joiners are welcome Avenue. If you want to come along, just read the book and turn up on the night. We usually try to have a copy of the book on the table so we're easy to spot. We have anything from about three to eight members each month - it depends who's around.

Dragontrainer2 · 26/03/2014 12:51

Looks unlikely that I will be able to make it tonight, as DH is having the week from hell at work and would consider getting in from the office at midnight an early night! If by some miracle he does materialise in time to look after the little ones, I'll see you there . . .

juneau2 · 28/03/2014 17:49

We missed you dragon! Hope to see you next month.

April's book is 'Burial Rites' by Hannah Kent.

Meeting is on Weds 30th April at 8pm, The Old Cock, Harpenden.

Dragontrainer2 · 31/03/2014 14:11

Thanks for posting this, Juneau. I've had my eye on reading Burial Rights, so quite impressed at the book choice! Hope to see you all on the 30th April.

HappyHaggis · 11/04/2014 12:53

Afternoon all

I recently moved to Harpenden and found this thread online. Are you accepting new members? I'd love to join - the group sounds wonderful. Unfortnately I wouldn't be able to make your next meeting on 30 April, but hopefully I could make May. Many thanks :)

juneau2 · 12/04/2014 07:47

New joiners are welcome Haggis. Just keep an eye on this thread, read the book and show up!

HappyHaggis · 12/04/2014 09:31

Brilliant - will do, thank you.

roundwood · 28/04/2014 14:48

Hi, afraid ds has now got a choir concert on Weds so I can't make it. Shame! See you next time.

juneau2 · 02/05/2014 17:47

Sorry you couldn't make it roundwood - I hope the choir concert was good!

Our next meeting will be on Weds 11th June at the Old Cock.

The book is 'The Railway Man' by Eric Lomax.

roundwood · 03/05/2014 10:21

THanks Juneau, it was but First Capital Connect nearly made me miss it - had to grab a cab despite leaving work early and made it with seconds to spare. No idea why school always give us such short notice, they must have been planning it for more than a week!

Hope you had fun and see you next time.

juneau2 · 03/05/2014 17:30

Oh, dear old FCC eh! We missed you this month, so hopefully trains and school calendars will behave in June.

Katiewoodles20 · 10/05/2014 17:08

Hi All,

I have just come upon your thread whilst looking for a book club in my local area. Your group seems just what I was looking for and I was wondering if you are allowing new members. I see your next meeting is June 11th 8pm in The old Cock and you are reading "The Railway Man" is this correct?
Many Thanks

Katiewoodles20 · 10/05/2014 20:37

Also... Does it matter if I am not a mum. Just asking as this is on a mums network. Many Thanks
Kate

juneau2 · 11/05/2014 17:33

You're welcome to join us katie. Just read the book and come along! We try to have a copy of the book on the table to make us more easily identifiable and motherhood is not a requirement Grin

HelenJV2 · 21/05/2014 20:34

Hi Ladies,
It's been a long time since I last came along - have been busy with the arrival of my daughter, but am now finally feeling ready to get sometime for me back! Would it be ok if I rejoined?

juneau2 · 21/05/2014 22:15

Of course Helen - we'd love to have you back. Do bring a photo or two please!
