Hi, I moved to Redbourn last year and looking to join or start a book club. Could you please let me know of a local one or if anyone is interested in starting one?

I am slowly getting my evenings back with my nearly 6 month old. So just need to get the book and I might be there.

libramumoftwo · 13/11/2011 23:29

Hello .. sorry to interrupt your bookclub but I may be interested! We are hoping to move to Harpenden/ Redbourn/ Wheathampstead in Jan/Feb and as you ladies live there, I wondered if you had any advice? Hubby wants easy access to the fast trains so loves Harpenden, however I crave countryside and a smaller location and hence I'm looking outside! We have two boys, one age 4 and one 11mths. Any tips? All going well, I may end up in the bookclub :D Sorry to add to thread, but plan to view homes this week hence on a big drive for info.

I've just posteed a relevant thread if you'd like to replly to that instead .. and keep this one for the bookclub! Thanks so much!

katestalbans · 06/02/2012 12:35

hi, did you get a book club started? i am interested if you did. thanks

RachieJosie · 08/02/2012 17:25

Hi there, moving to St Albans at end of April and would love to join a reading group. If you are still after new members I would love to join.

HalleLouja · 09/03/2012 09:22

Think this died.

winterberry · 04/04/2012 21:48

Can we revive this thread? Anyone still interested??

juneau · 05/04/2012 14:06

I would be interested too if this group still meets? If not, could we start a new one? I'd love to have a reason to actually read a whole book each month Grin

HalleLouja · 05/04/2012 15:00

I am reading Room can we do it please. Its a bit odd so far.

juneau · 05/04/2012 15:02

I've read 'Room', so am happy to discuss it.

winterberry · 05/04/2012 21:52

Juneau,HalleLouja,
I've read the book as well. I know it's just the three of us, but shall we go ahead and set a date to meet? What do you think?

HalleLouja · 07/04/2012 17:52

Can do.

Can't do Tues or Thursday nights. Where shall we go??

I am in Wheathampstead.

HalleLouja · 07/04/2012 17:53

You are going to have to give me a couple of weeks to read it Grin

edam · 07/04/2012 18:15

ooh, I'm in Harpenden, would love to join a book club and have read Room - can I join in?

Only problem is I don't drive but could get a lift from dh if you want to meet in Redbourn or Wheathampstead.

juneau · 09/04/2012 14:16

Am happy to set a date and I do drive! Definitely can't do this week as DH is away on business, but shall we try the week starting 23rd?

How about Weds 25th - does that work for everyone?

RachieJosie - will you be here by then? If not, perhaps we could do the week after.

kidsfromfame · 12/04/2012 10:01

Hello! I joined this thread further up, and am still keen to find a book club. I'm in Harpenden, and can drive if needed.

Weds are good for me. I read half of Room, so can pick up where I left off...

edam · 14/04/2012 13:18

Weds 25th would be fine - where would be the best place to meet?

juneau · 14/04/2012 13:40

Well since two of you are from Harpenden, shall we have our first meeting there? Is there somewhere on the High St that might work? I don't often go to Harpenden to eat or drink so my mind's a bit a blank.

And what time works - around 8pm? I don't think I can get there any earlier than that.

winterberry · 14/04/2012 19:10

Hi all, I'm fine for the 25th as well. I'm not sure about pubs because of the noise issue, has anyone been to 'the George' in harpenden? Or what about the pizza express?

HalleLouja · 14/04/2012 19:37

I can't do 25th but you all meet and I will come next time.

You should get a table / seat in the George. The Cock Inn is nice too.

edam · 14/04/2012 20:12

The George is fine unless there's a big football match on, then they have the TV up loud (I don't know the first thing about football so no idea if there's anything on).

Cock Inn is fine and very easy for anyone to spot - on the high street, past Sainsbury's (if you are coming from St Albans) and on the other side of the road.

kidsfromfame · 15/04/2012 12:47

I agree that The Cock Inn is likely to be quieter than The George.

edam · 15/04/2012 16:51

ooh it sounds like this is actually going to happen! What time - 8pm? And we are talking about Room, yes?

winterberry · 15/04/2012 19:46

I can do 7/8. Whats best for everyone else? And how are we going to identify each other?

juneau · 15/04/2012 21:41

Shall we try The Cock then? Perhaps the first one to arrive could put their copy of 'Room' on the table in a conspicuous spot?

MaSeKo · 15/04/2012 22:07

Hi all, this is great.

I was just thinking for the last few days that I wanted to join a book club in Harpenden and today that I had some time to look for it I found this thread.

I would very much like to join you if that's ok.

I live in Harpenden for the last 3 years or so and I agree the Cock Inn will be quite nice. Have not read the Room yet but I will have by the 25th. Around 8 will be great for me and will bring the book so that we get to recognise each other.
