Hi, I moved to Redbourn last year and looking to join or start a book club. Could you please let me know of a local one or if anyone is interested in starting one?

OP posts:
HalleLouja · 16/04/2012 18:08

I am definitely up for the next meet but am out quite a bit next week so can't do.

edam · 16/04/2012 18:17

Like the idea of the conspicuous book but my copy's on a kindle. Grin Look for the woman with the red kindle and very curly brown hair...

HalleLouja · 17/04/2012 13:23

Can you not reserve a table maybe.....

Dragontrainer · 17/04/2012 16:22

I'd love to join you if that's OK! Provided babysitting works out (also known as DH getting himself home from work on time!), I should be able to make it next week . . .

katestalbans · 18/04/2012 10:50

well done ladies on reviving the thread and making a plan. i'd love to join in too. have ordered the book and will work on the babysitter. 8pm next wed in the cock in harpenden. hope to see you there and then.

kidsfromfame · 18/04/2012 12:50

Yep, I'm in too. See you next week.

juneau · 18/04/2012 14:08

Oh this is great! So glad there are quite a few who can come.

I think I'd better re-read 'Room'. Just realised I can't remember as much of it as I thought.

edam · 18/04/2012 23:22

Yup, I need to refresh my acquaintance as well... either that or find the grown-up book club equivalent of York notes! Grin

winterberry · 19/04/2012 11:59

If anyone from Redbourn needs a lift, would be happy to pick them up!

gp · 19/04/2012 19:37

hi there did this book club get going ? i'm interested in joining thx

edam · 19/04/2012 22:42

Yup, at The Cock, Harpenden High Street, Weds 25th, 8pm. Bring a copy of Room so we stand a chance of spotting each other.

edam · 24/04/2012 17:36

Hi everyone, just bumping for tomorrow!

Dragontrainer · 25/04/2012 20:13

Grrr, husband has just sent a text to say that his flight is late and there is a huge queue at passport control, so he won't be back for ages. Tempting though it may be to leave the sleeping seven year old in charge of the younger two, it means I'm not going to be able to make tonight. Please let me know the next book and venue and I'll improve the quality of nagging to see if I can get the husband home on time! Hope you all had /have fun discussing the book!

juneau · 26/04/2012 08:11

Sorry you couldn't make it Dragon. The next meeting will be Weds 23rd May at 8pm, The Old Cock Inn, Harpenden.

The book is 'The Marriage Plot' by Jeffrey Eugenides.

edam · 26/04/2012 09:47

had a great time last night, really enjoyed meeting everyone. Look forward to seeing you next time, Dragon!

HalleLouja · 26/04/2012 13:26

Book ordered.

Will be there.

winterberry · 26/04/2012 20:57

Hi all, I was soo looking forward for this, but came down with a bad ear infection two days before the 24th :-(. I'm getting the book and will be there for the next one....

juneau · 30/04/2012 14:56

Coffeeandcookie · 26/05/2012 18:34

katestalbans · 29/05/2012 11:30

Coffeeandcookie · 29/05/2012 21:18

Thank you katestalbans. Need to order the book now!

Dancinmama · 11/06/2012 12:46

Hi ladies,
I'mmoving to St Albans at the end of July and would be really interested in joining in with you if that's possible? I love reading and think a book group would be a good way to motivate me to read rather than watch tv in the evening! I'd also like to meet other mums in St Albans. Will you be meeting in August onwards?

edam · 03/07/2012 22:10

Hi everyone, apologies, I'm afraid I'm having to go to a work do tomorrow so will have to miss this one. Sorry! Do post here to say what the next book is.

HalleLouja · 04/07/2012 21:07

I would be interested in coming now that I have rediscovered reading. Am now reading the Illiad by Homer. But I would be interested in knowing what you are all reading.

juneau · 09/07/2012 08:59

Hi edam, we missed you this month!

The next book is 'The Tiger's Wife' by Tea Obreht. Meeting is Weds 8th August. Usual place.
