Hi - I've been looking to join a local book club. Just goggled and this one came up. I do have kids - but eldest is doing A2 exams. So hopefully I will not be too old for the group?

Currihane · 23/06/2014 12:38

Hi Sue - you're very welcome to join us, please do come along to the July meet up. I'm ancient, and they let me in.... (am kidsfromfame usually).

SueB12345 · 23/06/2014 14:55

That's great, thanks.
I had better get the book and start reading! See you on the 16th

Thanking you muchly for being an organisational powerhouseJuneau Hopefully see you at September's meet up!

HappyHaggis · 07/08/2014 16:36

Afraid I can't make the September date and the baby is due the month after, so I suspect it might be a few months before I join you all again! Look forward to doing so in due course :)

juneau2 · 05/09/2014 17:20

September's book is 'The Sea Sisters' by Lucy Clarke.

Meeting will be on Weds 1st Oct, at the Old Cock, Harpenden. All welcome!

juneau2 · 02/10/2014 09:31

Our next meeting will be on Weds 12th Nov, usual place.

The book is 'We Are All Completely Beside Ourselves' by Karen Joy Fowler.

We will also be having a book group outing to see Gone Girl, if any members who haven't been for a while would like to come along! Please PM me asap if you want to come.

Dragontrainer2 · 12/11/2014 17:40

Aargh, the curse of the missing husband/babysitter strikes again - this time he is on a late flight from Helsinki. So, sorry, will have to miss out on tonight - very unimpressed . . .

SueB12345 · 13/11/2014 08:58

Hi all - next book club read is Wild by Cheryl Strayed. Meeting Wednesday December 10th at the Old Cock, Harpenden.
See you then!

Amrita1975 · 01/12/2014 12:17

Hi, I don't have any kids (except for feline ones)! Can I still join your book club? Been wanting to join one for a while now.

SueB12345 · 04/12/2014 12:52

Hi Amrita1975 - I'm relatively new to the book club myself - but don't believe its restricted just to Mum's! so feel free to come along.

Dragontrainer2 · 08/12/2014 19:01

Sorry, I'm not having a good run of making book club at the moment - not looking good for Wednesday given DH's current work load. Have a good Christmas everyone.

Amrita - as Sue says, no need at all to have little people - just turn up prepared to mutter something about the book!

SueB12345 · 09/12/2014 08:29

Hi - I'm also sorry to say I will not be able to join on Wed. Bit of a shame as I was looking forward to discuss 'wild'. The actually parts of the book around the hike reminded me a lot of Bill Bryson and his book ' walk in the woods'.

Looking forward to catching up on the next book in January.
Sue

Katiewoodles · 10/12/2014 11:37

Hi All,

Amrita1975 · 10/12/2014 17:52

Hello everyone, thanks for your kind replies. I will join you in January because I still haven't finished reading the book. Blush I look forward to meeting you all in the new year and wishing everyone a very merry Christmas!

Ellewood · 02/01/2015 22:05

Hi there - I am really keen to join a book club in Harpenden - have been meaning to for so long as I am looking for inspiration and motivation to read more. I wondered if I could come along to this one? Are you starting back next week? Many thanks

Amrita1975 · 04/01/2015 19:21

Hi Ellewood I was going to join last month but couldn't attend the meeting and no one's posted anything since about what book to read. Perhaps no one managed to make it to the meeting and I don't know either if there's a meeting this month. Let's keep our fingers crossed. :)

juneau2 · 11/01/2015 16:15

Hi, sorry I forgot to post about this month's meeting.

Its on Weds 14th Jan, usual time and place.

We will be discussing 'Wild' as the meeting last month didn't really happen in the busy run-up to Christmas.

Hope to see everyone there - old and new members alike. All welcome!

juneau2 · 15/01/2015 11:48

Thanks to everyone who came along last night. Our next book group will be on Weds 11th Feb at 8pm, usual time and place. The book is 'Elizabeth is Missing' by Emma Healey.

Do read the book and come along if you fancy joining!
